Denver -2.5/48

Line opened at a Pick em. Joe Public has been hitting the Donkeys at about a 65% clip and moved the line up to 2.5. For the past couple of weeks, I've been pretty steadfast in taking the Seahawks on the money line. I was concerned about Seattle's pressure up front and how an immobile Manning would time to find his receivers. Now, I'm starting to have second thoughts. While Seattle's D has looked great, their offense has sputtered in the playoffs and Wilson has looked shaky at best. Plus, Peyton Manning gets two weeks to watch film and prepare...that's a scary proposition for Seattle backers. Further, I think the Broncos will do exactly what they did against the Patriots...put 8 guys in the box to stop Lynch and let a struggling Wilson beat them. That worked well against the Pats...

Hmmmmm....thoughts?

I think Denver wins going away.

I'm on the Seahawks. They've been the best team in football all year.

I'm on Denver today. I think Manning has Super Bowl poise over Cincinnati native Russell Wilson.

Fighting Elways. There is something perverse and unnatural that the biggest goober in football, Eli Manning, has two Super Bowl rings, yet his elder brother, arguably the all-time greatest QB, has only one. Broncos, if only to erase a sign of the impending apocalypse.

Plus, Pete Carroll is the supreme douche of all sports.

As a Browns fan, it pains me still all these years later to root for the Broncos. But, I think Payton Manning deserves it and is good enough to earn it. This is a legacy game for him. Also, coming back from the neck injury and making it this far speaks volumes for his commitment. If anyone can exploit the Seattle defense, it is Payton Manning. I think he'll do just that. Also, Russell Wilson is great outside the pocket, but very ordinary inside of it. If Denver keeps him in the pocket, he will be prone to turning it over. If Denver scores a lot of points early, it will be a rout. If the game is even and it comes down to one last possession, it is all about Manning at that point. Difference in the game will be experience and in that regard, no Seattle Seahawk on today's roster has even played in a Super Bowl. Tough to overcome that aspect of it, especially at QB.

Seattle, and not really because I like the particularly team. It's a great sports town that's never won anything with a team that's still in the city, they deserve it.

I believe that the Lenny Wilkens led Super Sonics won the 1979 NBA title. Lenny, was a player/coach if I am not mistaken.

The SuperSonics are no longer in Seattle.

Ah yea, I know that. But, they were in 1979 when they won the NBA title, no? So, the city did win a championship, no?

This, IMHO.

Super Bowl.

Experienced quarterback with time to prep. Denver's defense isn't too shabby anyway.

I have to go with the defense. Add in Manning’s less-than stellar big game, post-season track record, and I have to pick Seattle. Plus it would be appropriate for Denver to lose to a steroid-enhanced team.

Ya Sonics did win in '79. I did say that they haven't won anything with team that's still in the city though. Also learned that the Seattle Metropolitans won a Stanley Cup cup in 1917... I don't feel as bad for them now.

I am sure that the folks alive in 1979, experienced that SuperSonics championship and are awaiting today's game remember that experience. You can't just wipe it off of a white board because the team isn't there anymore. I doubt that O'Brien Trophy is in OKC today. But, hey whatever.

Relax man. I wrote the city has never won a championship with a team that is still in the city, not that they have never won a championship. Guess I should have just said the Seahawks have never won, so I did't offend your apparently fond memories of the Super Sonics. Christ.

I leaned toward Peyton over Marshawn since Beastmode made enough bad decisions for my Bills to give him away. A good game was my first priority. Looks like I am disappointed on two fronts. Sucks to be sticking around just for the commercials.... bring on the draft. Ugh

Three largest halftime deficits:

25- SB XXII - Washington 35, Denver 10
24- SB XXIV - San Francisco 27, Denver 3
22- SB XLVIII - Seattle 22, Denver 0

Would have been fun to see Mayweather's reaction to the first play safety.

I did okay, but I would have cleaned up if not for that last Seattle TD pushing the total past 48.

Wow.

I had a bunch of small prop bets for fun, and had Denver to cover as my bigger bet. At some point today, I'm going to go back and see what my total would have been if I picked the opposite on all my bets. (One of them was "will there be a safety". I picked no.)

I'm in the same boat...most of my bets were Denver-heavy and that was a BAD idea. I don't even wanna go back and look.
