Music City Muskie

It's been a while Xavier Nation, but yours truly will be in the house this Saturday. That's right. The artist formerly known as ATL Muskie (who was left by the road side dead after being stranded in icy gridlock traffic for 12 hours) will rise from the ashes like a great phoenix and grace you all with his presence in the form of "Music City Muskie." I will leave Nashville Friday night and burn a trail to the great Cintas Center, the former site of many intramural softball and football matches back in the wild and crazy early 90's.

Some of you I have not seen since the infamous bus trip to Pittsburgh. I am much older now. And much wiser. And much fatter. But it's just more for you all to love. I'll be in Section 202 and will accept offers of beers and beautiful young ladies before tip off and at the half. Looking forward to it, as I'm sure you all are. Long live Tel Aviv Muskie. Long live ATL Muskie. Long live Music City Muskie. And long live Xavier basketball.

Never met you, but welcome home!

I liked the part about playing in the lot that gave its life so that one of the great collegiate basketball arenas of our day could be built.

As a fellow '94 grad and former XU Olympic-sports student-athlete, you should know as well as I do that the Cintas Center was built atop the former XU home tennis courts (and a couple crappy basketball courts). The parking lot for the arena is where many intramural softball and football games were played.

Good call Lamont. I should have said "Cintas Center and its environs." In any event, it looks a helluva lot better now, eh?

As many great moments the Cintas has given to me as a season ticketholder since opening in 2000, I spent four great years playing on those tennis courts. Whole bunch of great memories, great teammates and victories and losses on those courts. And got the tremendous opportunity to learn a thing or two from the late great Coach James J. Brockoff.

I used to park my '49 Dodge back there as an inaugural resident of Husman. God bless Rudy Prickrill.

Music City, I have a story for you since you have been referred to as prodigal. Back in the late 70s when I was covering UC (I've done my pennance for that) Tim Sullivan (Now of the Louisville CJ) and I were encountering Eddie Lee, a UC senior guard of the Wendell Gale Catlett hire. Well, it seems Eddie got a Time Out from the UC team for a little gift shop incident in St. Louis and later, after he had been shriven, returned to compete again and Tim referred to him as the Prodigal Eddie Lee. Eddie met us as we came into the Coliseum to cover a game and asked Sully, "What do this 'Pro-digeee-Gal' mean??? You callin' me some kind of gay ???(he used a less flattering adjective than gay--begins with F.)
Now that I've enriched your history of basketball in the city of your Alma Mater, in the area of Holy Dana's, where abouts in Nashville doth thou live???? BTW enjoy hell out of Saturday. q

To add to the frivolity, merry making and chaos, The Great First Responder himself-PM Thor- and I will also A) Make a special, guest appearance in Danas Pre-game and B) Be enschonched in my/Muskie's Section 101 seats.

I suggest a Pre-game Dana conference and a halftime meet up in the Cintas Concourse at the top of the Section 101/103 aisle.

I hope that Music City Muskie wears his beautiful Xavier Hockey Sweater. Epic.

Welcome back, buddy!

Spontaneous combustion alert. Call out the gendarmes. This attendance list exceeds the fresh air HVAC capacity of Dana Gardens. Thor better get an emergency occupancy permit from the CFD.

I truly regret not being able to be a fly on the wall as MOR pontificates, er expostulates, on Musketeer defensive schemes. "Vee, you're Dee Davis. Thor, you're Stainbrook in the post. Bourbonman, you got he left wing in this 1-3-1 trapping zone........"

MCM, you'll always be ATL muskie to me, and most of us.

Should Dana's get too full, I would remind everyone that Listerman's (down the street) will be pouring excellent beers Saturday morning. I, along with assorted hangers-on, will be swilling down the good stuff about 10:00.

Looking forward to it gentlemen. And I live in Franklin, just south of Nashville. It's my second go-around in this fair city and I enjoy it a great deal. I used to live on the west side of town and down near Vanderbilt.

"Pontificating" would be the accurate description. I'm all about the expression of dogma.

By the way, in the interest of accuracy, Music City Muskie can self-gloss as ATL Muskie or Tel Aviv Muskie, but in reality, his roots are as Lookout Mountain Muskie.

MOR is correct, Lookout Mountain Muskie probably would be more accurate as Chatt-a-boogie is where I spent my formative years.

coasterville, you are correct. Had a great time with you guys on that trip. In fact I believe you and I were conversing about X basketball when nuts infamously choked (nearly to death) on a Jell-o shot. Good times....good times....

We also learned on that trip that MOR was nuts' father.

I plan on making it over to Dana's before the game to more or less continue the party from the night before... So if you see someone looking a bit lit as they walk into Club Danás that's probably me celebrating the birthday weekend.

Also I was in Nashville last weekend with a couple guys I graduated with last year. Easily the best weekend of my brief post grad life. That city is the best.

I am proud of my son Nuts. Despite me not being available to teach him my nefarious ways, he has developed into a Great American.

His NSFW threads are legendary.

"Was?" This sounds vaguely mythical, like finding out Luke's father was.....gasp....Darth Vader. I have it on good authority that MOR is still pere Nuts.

Yeah. Just realized that the hockey sweater is 0-2. Maybe it wasn't the Snuggies after all........

.....uh, yeah it was.

The sweater can have one more shot, IMO, but three strikes........
