Not sure if most realize how well Semaj is playing through 6 games.
FG% - 64%
3 PT FG% - 42%
FT% - 78%
PPG - 21.7
APG - 4
I would say he's easily on track for first team all league.
You can give the POY to McDermott already though.

Any other year and I'd think Semaj would be a huge contender for POY but it's hard to go against a National Player of the Year 2 time all american....

With Bryce Cotton, I wouldn't consider Semaj a shoe-in for POY of the year absent McDermott. Though Maj should definitely be first team all-conference.

I wonder if Cotton will get fatigued later in the season. He literally never comes out. He's played 50 minutes twice in the last 5 games.
Edit: In his last 10 games, he's played 421 minutes. Good lord.

Semaj is 223 points away from 1000. He needs to average 18.6 a game for the rest of the regular season to get to that milestone. If you take in to consideration 1 BE tournament game and 1 NCAA tournament game he just needs to average 15.9. Hell of a season for Semaj.

Wow, and he's scored at least 20/gm for 8 straight games. 85% from the line and 39.2 minutes/gm; always impressive to see guys who can nail FTs even when they are exhausted.

All that said and he still hasn't been BE Player of the Week yet.
He'll have to have a monster game Sat to steal that from Wragge after last night.

I dont think Smith Rivera is even close to the level of player Semaj is. DSR is a spot up shooter for the most part. Semaj does so many other things well. I think their athleticism is what sets them apart. Semaj is super quick to the bucket and can score in a variety of different ways.

So how much have you seen DSR play, exactly?
Not saying he has performed quite at Semaj's level this year, but that statement is absolutely ridiculous.

I've watched him play 3-4 times this year. So yeah maybe I dont have him pegged exactly.
I am 100% sure he attempts a lot more 3 pts shots than Semaj. When he's not shooting 3's I see him trying to get closer to the basket, but he hasnt finished close to the rim well b/c he's simply just not that athletic. I see him pulling up and hitting 6-8-10 footers.......
Look at the stats. I guarantee you the shots that he has taken at least 40% of them are from behind the arc.
Let me also add, I think DSR is a good player. Im not knocking him, I just think Semaj brings so much more to the table.
Theres a reason why Semaj is a projected 1st round pick and DSR isnt anywhere even close to getting drafted.

So far this season he averages 11.3 shots a game, and 5.0 of those are 3 pointers. So 44% of his shots are 3s.

If the NBA didn't exist, Byron would be starting to get nervous.

For argument's sake and I was curious about it...If he were to get to 1,000 points this year, then he'd still be 1,696 away from Byron. Semaj is amazing but at his current pace, looks like he wouldn't catch Byron in 4 years at X. If there weren't other scoring options on the team, I'm sure he could do it. Byron is 21st in all-time NCAA scoring. McDermott is actually about to pass him (or may have depending on if last night's game is included).

He'll likely be well over 1,000 at the end of this year. If he stayed 4 years, he'd definitely have a shot at Byron.

I know the recruiting has been solid, but looking at the roster, it seems tough to imagine where those points are going to come from when Maj leaves.

I hear ya to a certain degree, but recruiting has been better than solid...it's been the tits. One thing this program has taught me over the last 30+ years is that we are and always will be bigger than one studly basketball player. I watched the greatest player in the history of this program leave only to see the program catapault from that point forward in a big way. If the Xavier playbook holds to form, this what we'll see:
One of these players is going to make the James Farr leap:
Myes Davis
Jalen Reynolds
Brandon Randolph
Kamal Richards
One of these players will make the Justin Martin leap:
Dee Davis
Matt Stainbrook
James Farr
At least one of these players will make a big impact
Edmond Sumner
Makinde London
JP Macura
Sean O'Mara
Trevon Blueitt
And lets not forget our track record of tranfers being prett damn good!
Remy Abell
Me thinks the future is bright

I would have been worried as well, but was it the Gtown game where Semaj was on the bech with foul trouble in the 2nd half and the team did really well?

Yes, definitely NOT saying they are better without them, but they did surprisingly well for extended periods while he was out. Someone posted that seeing that gave him the confidence to trust the others, and there may be something to that.

I am guessing we haven't had too many players reach the 1000 point milestone in only their sophomore year.

I really think this the big difference in this year’s team compared to the Tu, Lyons days. Those two never cared to trust the other players it seemed. When they had to sit out the other guys had no clue what to do because they had no confidence in their own games. I really think that stunted the growth of Martin and Dee to a certain extent.
