View Full Version : Who do you hate, who do you love in the Big East?

Hoyaparanoia has single-handedly made me hate anything to do with Georgetown basketball, so they now join the ranks of Gonzaga, Butler and Dayton (UC is in its own category).
Marquette is on the fence... I have Catholic relatives in Wisconsin that mean I need to hold my tongue when I'm around them, but otherwise I'm just looking for another reason or two to start hating that program.
Villanova, DePaul, Seton Hall, Providence and St. John's don't mean anything to me yet.
For some reason, I love Creighton. Always have since Xavier played them a decade ago. They seem to have good fans and I want them to succeed and help us in beating down Butler and the other sorry-sack programs in this conference.
So, who do you hate in the Big East? And who do you consider an ally?

I was told from a Nova fan" "You will fit in the Big East just fine as long as you hate Georgetown."

I hate Georrgetown and Butler. Dislike St. John's due to a few posters on HLOH with their elitist NY attitude.
So far no opinion of the rest. Have no ill will towards Marquette, though I know some do.

I'm getting annoyed with Seton Hall fans on the Holy Land of Hoops board who are constantly whining about why no one is talking about them now that they're finally fully healthy. Maybe they'll get over it though, as right now they are coping with the fact that one of their more promising years was ruined by injuries.
Georgetown fans over there are fine. I wonder how much of the fan base is closer to Hoya Paranoia though.
St. John's are arrogant and have an undeserved sense of entitlement, it seems.
Villanova fans are generally likable. Of course, I always liked Nova as a program.
Creighton fans have been too defensive early on. I think that will die off, though, and they're generally pretty friendly.
Marquette fans have been pretty quiet in a disappointing season. A lot of off-season boasting though lol.
I've generally enjoyed Providence fans and I like the program too.

I grew up a Marquette fan first so I am ok w/ them except then they play Xavier. I really don't like Butler, followed by Georgetown, DePaul, St. John's, Seton Hall, Providence, …….
I'm really big on the old Big East vs. the new Big East divide. Coming into this year it was clear that X, Creighton and Butler were automatic underdogs to Marquette, Nova and Georgetown, and maybe even St. John's depending on who you asked. Maybe it's the mid-major still in me, but I'm enjoying that X and Creighton are proving that the added programs are just as good as the classic ones.

Hate is so pedestrian. I prefer loathe with the passion of a thousand fiery suns
That said, I typically have more of an issue with a team's ignorant fans (a la UD or Butler) than I do the team itself (UC being the exception). However, John Thompson is an arrogant ass and his players reflect his leadership in that area. So, Georgetown is a team I don't care for much. Butler fans have clearly been taking lessons from ud in how to be completely nonsensical about just about everything. So, Butler definitely qualifies. Creighton doesn't bother me. They've been on our journey, so we're competitors but also soul mates in that sense.

I do like Creighton...when we're not playing them.
Hate georgetown and butler. Rather indifferent on the rest.

Hate:
Butler. No explanation needed.
Like rooting for:
Providence - Really like Ed Cooley, fun team to watch most of the time as well
Villanova - I used to love Villanova back in the day when they had guys like Foye, Allan Ray, Mike Nardi etc.
Enjoy Laughing At:
St. John's - Steve Lavin
Other schools really haven't fit into a category yet. I want to like Creighton but something (can't really describe what) is holding me back.

Maybe you are secretly a UNC fan. They HATE, HATE, HATE, HATE, HATE Creighton. That is in addition to not liking them very much.

Coaches edition!
Jim Boeheim - wait a second...
Bub Huggins - wait a second...
Mick Cronin - wait a second...
Guess it's gotta be Steve Lavin. Dude's a poseur.
Maybe Jay Wright: when you see him the first thing people talk about is that he's well dressed - so annoying.
Buzz is in consideration because he's more active on the sideline than a three year old after four juice boxes.
Purnell because he once coached dayton. But then he left dayton and Gregory took over - so maybe he's not that bad.
JTIII is riding his father's coattails.
McDermott is riding his son's coattails.
Guess I don't have anything negative yet with Willard, Miller, or Cooley - so they're cool.
