We'll know all we want to know about this team over the next seven games. 5 are away from Cintas.

If they play like thy did in the second halves of both the Creighton and Georgetown games, I thank that's exactly how many they will take. 5 of the next 7. I don't see the guys being able to win @Villanova and @Marquette will be really tough.

Gotta get that DePaul win on MLK Day. Provi's a little more dicey, but at least a split is absolutely essential.

I disagree. GOTTA win both of these. Could be the worst 2 teams in the league. A depleted Seton Hall won at Providence, there is no reason we shouldn't.
(edit - I forgot about the fall of Butler. 2 of the worst 3 teams in the league).

Guys, hold at home and snipe a few on the road. Cheaten Hall, Depaul, and Providence are all winnable games on the road. Really, G'Town/Marquette/Villanova are house money road games with the rest all being winnable for either team. This season all starts with holding home court which is tough on it's own.

I've been underwhelmed with Marquette so far. X should be able to beat them up there.
Muskie is right, though. We've only played two true road games so far, so we're really going to learn about this team over the course of the next seven games.

Agreed. I am anxious to see some road work by the guys. That will say a lot about how far this team can go. Take the ones they should win (DP, SH, and Prov…I would put Marquette in there too) and steal one from Villanova/G'town would be huge.
That being said, the road can be a scary place. A split would be disappointing but not catastrophic.
Let's beat DePaul…..

If we win 5 of 7 I would be ecstatic. that is 19-6 with 6 games left.
The 7 games are
@Depaul
@Providence
Seton Hall
@Villanova
Providence
@Butler
@ Marquette
I'm figuring @Villanova would be the loss. Assuming we beat Seton Hall and Providence at home.....we would have to get 3 out of @Butler, @Marquette, @Depaul, and @Providence. Not gonna be easy.

I agree. I think winning 4 of the next 7 should be considered good/expected. Anything less is a disappointment, winning 5 is certainly doable but would be an achievement. Wining 6 or 7 would make me ecstatic.

I personally guarantee Xavier victory or I will ban GuyFawkes for a week.

I think Creighton played their best game against us. Throwing in 3's from Peoria. If they do that every game they're going to the FF. Like the grit from this team so far and hope it continues. Gaining confidence.......
We seem to play better in hyped road environments (like Creighton), which is why the DePaul game concerns me. That game won't draw flies.

Plus DePaul is coming off of a 'Nova game in Philly on Saturday. That is a tough turnaround and they included a flight. I expect DePaul to jump out early and wear down as the game progresses hoping to catch us off guard.

DePaul has played every Big East game close so far - that's a 50/50 game right now (short rest or not).
Providence is another game that Xavier could win on the road, but also a coin-flip game.
The way things are going right now, I have a hard time seeing Butler AND St. John's trying to get out of the basement. Those are the games that Xavier cannot afford to let slip through the cracks when it comes time to play them on the road.

I found myself rooting for SJU tonight as I saw a loss for the Johnnies would mean we won our first two Big East games against two teams who are now a combined 0-10 in the Big East.

Butler is learning they need a PG with talent and at least some length to compete in this league. What really shocks me is they didn't spend a scholarship on a 6'2-3 PG in 2014 regardless of star rating. I think Castro and Aldridge are viewed as 2 guards by their fans and not PGs.
St. Johns is in somewhat the same situation with only one PG. Jordan though will be good just not right now. He makes too many mistakes.

Jordan should transfer out while he still has time. Everyone regresses under Lavin.. Prime example: Jakarr Sampson. Second example: The rest of the team.

I thought Sampson looked damned good against us. I was bummed we missed out on him.

I watched the Butler game and it was more of the same. Crieghton is a top 10 team right now. They have a bunch of weapons to go along with arguably the best player in the country.

I completely agree with this.

I think they mentioned this on the TV telecast - at that point, Sampson was saying that he was a better fit for St. John's system than Xavier.
Translation: I can jack up shot after shot at SJU when I'd have no chance to do so at Xavier. Good player, but X is better off without him right now.

Is X doing fine, just fine? Absolutely. But to say we are better off not having a really good player is just false. I would take Jakarr on this roster any day of the week.
