View Full Version : Tomorrow is the Day!

It's really the day I've been waiting for since I became a Xavier fan. Sure, having St. John's and Marquette visit was nice, but Marquette's been here many times before, and while St. John's is a nice name, the current state of their program is such that we've had plenty of comparable and better visitors to Cintas. But tomorrow. Tomorrow true college basketball royalty visits the Cintas Center for the first time, and for the first time as a member of the same league. It's almost surreal when I think about the fact that Xavier was in a league with Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Northern Illinois, Wright State, Detroit Mercy, Loyola (IL), UIC, Cleveland State and Butler (hey, wait) when I stepped on campus less than 20 years ago. The Cintas Center was a dream, and the "Catholic Conference" was a pipe dream back then. Tomorrow we are on even terms with the university of Patrick Ewing, Allen Iverson, John Thompson, etc., and we have them on our own turf.

It certainly is a great time to be a Muskie fan. And it's only going to get better from here.

Well, Xavier's been on top of Dikembe Mutumbo and Alonzo Mourning for coming up on 24 years now...

FYI. Josh Smith and Jabril will still be out, but Nate Lubick will be playing despite breaking his nose vs. Butler.

Any word on Smith? Is his college career done?

Guy was having academic issues last I heard. It's too bad, he has a lot of talent but chomps on too many cheeseburgers and apparently doesn't go to class either.

Confession time.

I grew up a Georgetown basketball fan. I did not become a Xavier fan until middle school when my older sibling started attending Xavier. I have not wavered since. Tomorrow is big. Cannot wait.

OK Kiddies, let me give you a little history of "back in the day". As a Geezer and a Washingtonian, believe me Gtown was not always royalty! OK, I can hear all the "haters" saying yea and Dayton was good back before the civil war. But my point is we talk about X from Staak to Mack, but Gtown was 3-23 the year before John Thompson was hired. JT came around '74, Staak came in about '80, so not too much difference. And they got even luckier about 5 or 6 yrs later when the were one of the teams that formed the Big East--who knew what it would become. So Royalty--well not in the UCLA, NC, Kansas mode but certainly a NAME team, ask DSR, and I can't wait til X kicks their arse!!!

I want tomorrow's win badly.

Grew up rooting against Georgetown and now one of my best friends since grade school is a manager.

Let's Go X.

This is the type of game that reminds you how awesome it is to be in The Big East and not the A10. Even in a down year for the Big East it is still ranked 3rd. In a good year for the A10 it's ranked 7th. It's sooo funny listening to some Dayton fans brag about how the A10 is projected to have 5 teams in the dance. And if they would be better off staying in the A10. Well your damn right you be better off and so will the Big East. We can't be having another DePaul bring down our RPI. I hope you got your tickets for the Epic showdown with Fordham, St. Bonnie's, Duquesne, GMason. The thing is those teams can beat you on a good night and it will destroy your RPI. Viva La Big East

Are those conference ranks in terms of RPI?

Yes those are RPI ranks accorind to RPI Forcast

I stand corrected. The A10 is actually 6th. Damn, maybe we should have stayed in that conference. If they could just get rid of 5 teams that could be a consistently top 6 conf but the bottom feeders kill that conf. That's why The Big East really needs to think hard about adding new teams. If they do they better be consistent top 100 teams because A few bottom feeders can really hurt the conference rank.

REALLY looking forward to watching DSR play in Cintas tomorrow. Gonna be a surreal experience for the young man.

The Rumor I heard was he'll be back for our game Saturday vs. Seton Hall, but who knows.

I thinking DSR probably won't guard Semaj since Semaj is much quicker. It's too bad Trawick is out because he's who we would've stuck on Semaj.

Honestly, what were the odds that Georgetown, with Mutombo and Mourning, were going to run into a little mid-major that had three front-court players who were going to combine to play 1,972 NBA games, score 14,740 NBA points, grab 11,857 NBA boards and swat 1,012 NBA shots?

Damn, I thought some of these games (this one at least) were going to be on Fox.
I can't get the CBS Sports thing.

Looking forward to the game tomorrow - as an 8 year resident of Cincinnati, I have a lot of X alum friends (shocking, really, that Georgetown alum get along better with X alum than those from UC, tOSU or Miami) and this match-up feels long overdue. Sucks that we're not very good this year but as you all pointed out before - this is a very down year for the Big East (for us, Marquette and Butler) and it's still a top 3 or 4 conference. Ever game is a grind, but this is the big time. Looking forward to finding a reason to build some hate.

We can start with something as innocuous as your name if you'd like. Otherwise, just hang around, someone here will hate you for something and sooner rather than later.

Thanks for pointing that out, as I didn't know. That really sucks. I'm right with Go in that the biggest thing about Xavier being in a new conference (other than the "major conference" label) was that Georgetown would be coming to Cintas regularly. Hopefully I have an easier time with streams than last time.

I agree 100%. I have been waiting decades for tonight's game.

The number one reason we should all oppose and fight any future expansion of this league is because I want this home game in my ticket package every year.

Xavier Nation, meet your new rival, The Georgetown Hoyas. I will be there tonight as part of the welcoming committee. Be sure to show them some warm Cintas Love.

Pacers are off today and they play home tomorrow - what are the chances both make the trip to the game tonight?

Hibbert was at the Butler/Georgetown game at Butler last week. They interviewed Hibbert and he did mention something he had going with West but I completely forget what he said... he definitely said something though.
