Gotta keep up with Blobfan.
XU media department a little behind; no news/stats posted yet, or radio, or announcers, etc.
They're no longer the Redmen, now the Red Storm. Their mascot is Johnny Thunderbird. Seriously.

Something I like about the past three games is that someone different has been the leading scorer each time out. Martin, Philmore, then the big Stain along with solid contribution from the rest of the club. Last year the only real threat was Semaj but there's five or six guys on this team who can put up 10+ points on any given day.

I'm guessing as other teams start to key in on Christon defensively we'll see guys have their opportunities. Good news, as we need to keep it balanced. I'm all for getting everyone their points.

Noon games on non-holiday weekdays are dumb.

Agree with previous 2 comments. WF seemed to let in tightly on Semaj during the 2nd half but it's still good to have him on the floor.
And noon games suck, especially when my office is open and I'm out of vacation days. I'll be watching the game cast though and getting very little work done tomorrow between 12-2. Great time to catch up on "filing."

Noon games on non-holiday weekdays are dumb.
But they're awesome when you live in Russia and the game is on at 9 pm the night of the biggest holiday of the year. My wife and I will be cracking open the champagne to watch Xavier debut in the Big East and ring in the New Year. Thanks for thinking of the fans in Russia, Xavier!

St Johns also doesn't have a guy who can back down or keep Stainbrook off the block. This should be an interesting clash of talent. I feel like UC had similar bigs to what St Johns will be throwing out there today, albeit the Johnnies bigs are more talented.

January 13th is when school starts back up. Might just be the atmosphere for the first BE game. So students will also miss the Butler and Marquette games.
But so far today, like you said, it's been a good showing. Hope it continues for the next two games.
The Georgetown games (Wed. after break, the 15th) will be rocking.

Not only tourney time, but I think those tougher non-con games helped us today. You learn more from losses or tough wins than you do from easy wins. We knew the Big East conference was going to be challenging and we need to make sure that we're prepared for those opponents. We shouldn't take the non-conference off to pad a resume like some schools who have leprechauns for coaches.
Great coaching job by Mack. The team didn't handle the zone well at first, but he made a great adjustment going to a faster pace.
A couple points:
-Semaj's unselfishness was great to see.
-This is what can happen when Stainbrook stays out of foul trouble.
-Dee, JMart and Philmore didn't stay at the Horeshoe last night. They were key.

Don't get me wrong, I'm very happy to be in a league with St. John's and have them visiting us at Cintas. But this ain't Lou Carnesseca's St. John's. I'm much happier that Fordham WON'T be visiting Cintas than the fact that St. John's did!

If you can't give the guy kudos for a well played game and instead have to be passive aggressive, then you should stop tuning in because you're never going to be happy. He was a huge key to our win today, and obviously Mack doesn't find him as lacking as you do.

This team is exactly that, a team, I love the way they share the ball, we actually look comfortable in a half court set. Impressive win! We have good players in every position and different player can step up and be the MVP on any given day. I am so glad to see that we have apparently overcome the problem of poor FT shooting, which was so frustrating to watch earlier. Now I really feel that we can compete with any team and win, esp. at home..

Martin was just absolutely fantastic in that five minute stretch to start the second half. I feel like we said that about Jeff Robinson sometimes, too. Let's hope Martin doesn't end up like Jeff Robinson.
Why you hate JMart like that?

Martin is the most frustrating player to watch from my perspective. He can be so dominant and then careless. Great effort by him today though.

Here's hoping the light bulb stay on! At this point, I'd love to see him back for his final year of eligibility.
Martin, Abell, and Bluiett - the 3 would be really deep
If you can't give the guy kudos for a well played game and instead have to be passive aggressive, then you should stop tuning in because you're never going to be happy. He was a huge key to our win today, and obviously Mack doesn't find him as lacking as you do.
Nice punctuation though.
Oddblob is saying that JMart is bewildering because he plays like a cold 3 point specialist one game and an unstoppable all around scorer the next. It's an observation of inconsistency, not a complain of a poor performance.

Great team game today. Even though we struggled from deep this team plays great defense and Mack did a heck of a job today.
Props to JMart.....that span was unreal.
Happy Frickin New Year. Its been a while since we've had a 6 game winning streak through the holidays.

Not sure, but isn't Macura more of a (tall) 2?

I am happy about the win and trying to enjoy the moment, but it's soooo hard not to look forward to next year (and the ones that follow) with all that fire power coming into the program and the young guys developing.

Not sure y Martin won't be back. He isn't going pro and he is a starter on a potential top 10 team next year. This team on paper will be sick! Too bad it's just paper :(

The popular theory is that he will graduate this May and be able to do his final year at another school where he could play closer to home/start.
Now that he's playing so well that's not likely.

Well, we have to free up two scholarships somehow. Semaj is easy, but beyond that the situation just leads to speculation. There's another guy on the roster I suspect is more likely to go, but as far as I know he might be next year's Jimmy Farr.

Friend told me Brad will be at several of the games when he is available and will split 50/50 with Lindsey and the games he won't be at she will continue as the main host. I don't really have any complaints about either of them at this point.

I think the difference between Farr last year and Richards this year is Farr at least worked hard. Richards doesn't and apparently still thinks he should get playing tim because of his natural ability

You can't have too many scorer/shooters! Some guys can spot up and shoot (Brad) and some can drive but lack a reliable jump shot (Semaj? - though improving?) but Macura seems to be a versatile scoring threat. And the other newcomers seem to be good shooters as well.
And Happy New Year to all Muskie fans everywhere!

HA!
It won't be long before Lavin will be questioned in NY. He got a reprieve because of his cancer, just like Crean got because of the Kelvin Sampson mess, but it won't be too much longer before both those guys are looked at askance by their respective fan bases unless wins start to come.

I happen to know quite a few St Johns fans and they're perception of Lavin is the epitome of Love/Hate. He brings in stellar recruiting classes and the fan base loves him for it during the offseason. Then they see that their players don't progress from their high school days and they hate him. I am really unimpressed by the way he handles/develops talent. It seems like every year it's the same story "next year we're gonna be stacked, our recruiting class is top 10."

My recollection is that he has also had difficulty getting his commits on campus (or to stay there), due in large part to the fact that he has had to take some risks on the recruiting trail. I'm not sure Lavin is a bad coach (and tend to think he's not) but he's not at the top of the list either.
