I woke up this morning to hear from two other Xavier graduates - my brothers - that our mother is in the Cardiac ICU at GWU Hospital, following a massive heart attack.

Along with my two sisters, we'll be greatful for all the prayers you folks care to offer.

Thank you very much for your thoughts and prayers.

My 84 year old mother survived a massive heart attack last night. She was at the right place at the right time, visiting family in D.C., which meant she ended up at GWU Hospital. The doctors figured she probably had one more hour to live at the point where they took action.

She is stable as I write this. It's hour-to-hour in the sense that she's under the assistance of medical devices and drug protocols. She now must gain back her strength so that she can function on her own. We're in that phase now.

Your prayers were the equivalent of hitting a very long "3." The doctors said that they were in unchartered waters with this case.

It's a small miracle that I am able to convey this message. We have a long way to go, but at least we're now going down the right road.

Again, thanks for your prayers.
