Muskie...many Makers someday.
Blobfan has already fixed the avatar = new streak.
LadyMuskie is getting worked up.
mrspaulxu is already mad at somebody at UC. Anybody really. Maybe everybody.
What could go wrong?
Let's do this.

So, for the ten of us who are actually going to the game. Is anybody planning on pre-gaming at The Banks? If so, which watering hole.

Last year, I recall Toby Keith's was pro Xavier. moerlein lager haus has better beer, and I haven't tried Yard House, so that's also tempting.

Along that line, is there a pro-Xavier place to watch the game outside of Dana's?

Great beer selection at Yard House also. I highly recommend it.

According to the Sagarin Predictor rating (which is generally a pretty good guide), Xavier should be about a four point dog tomorrow night.

UC fan here and have not been on since last year. Just wanted to wish you all a good game tomorrow night. I am really excited for the game as usual. I myself like the game downtown. I like seeing both sets of fans attend and I thought the atmosphere last year was great. I am eager to see Semaj and his progress from last year to this year. He can be a dynamic player and a game changer, and I always enjoy watching young men grow their skill sets. I am taking a Xavier fan and his wife with me and my wife. They are great people and we love to raze each other about our programs but we always know that we respect each other and our universities. I believe we the fans, the residents of Cincinnati, need to show more class on an annual basis. These student athletes, most not from here, leave after 4 years and we are left carrying the hatred while we continue to live here in our city.
Thanks for letting me talk and good luck tomorrow and the rest of the season.

They have a penchant of late for playing the Shootout right after their final exams. This is another reason (and a legitimate one at that) for moving the game back to January or February.

I caught a few comments from Mack on 700 last night about why he wants the game back on campus. Essentially, he said its the atmosphere at both home arenas...how much better it is than US Bank. He said we have to go there and deal with it and they have to come to the Cintas and deal with it...that's part of the rivalry. Then he said something that made way, way too much sense....

Mack said that both schools are trying to put the fight behind them. It was one bad incident....but he said every time they play UC at US Bank Arena, all it does is remind him of the fight....which is exactly what they are trying not to do. He said the only way both schools can put the fight in the past and forget about it and move on, is for it to be back on campus. I hadn't thought of it that way. That's a really good point.

Edit: Just checked the line on the game. With 55% of bets on X and 45% on UC, the line has moved from UC -4.5 to UC -6. That is not a good sign for X.....Vegas has chosen which side they are on...and it ain't X. Hopefully X can beat the sharps.

Can you fight a war on a neutral site?

Maybe we could have moved Vietnam to, oh I don't know, South Carolina?

Every war is an away game for one team; unless it's a civil war. Or a tournament on somebody's island like Iwo Jima.

That is a confusing mix of we and they. I hope both refer to X here.

I'm not expecting much out of this game. This is one of those games where Mack and the team have a chance to surprise me. If I were a betting man, though, I think I'd take UC in this one, and that makes me ill.

Completely outcoached, Cronin was a total embarrassment. You could see how he gave up emotionally shorthly after he was t'd up. by the second half he barely got out of his seat.

Certainly not the best game ever played by a Xavier team, but the half court defense worked, and the Musketeers are deep enough to survive even near fatal foul trouble.

There's something to this...Blobfan consistently gets up new avatars and we win the first five. Then she doesn't just miss doing it for the Atlantis games but is prevented fully from doing it by getting really sick, and the team just looks like shit in their three losses. In the make nice pre game news conference friday Coach Mack talked about how he and Cronin's older brother played AAU ball together, and when little Mick was mouthing off in the car on the ride they would reach around to the back seat and punch him to get him to shut up.

Kenpom update just came through to include this game, and some guy on their team, I forget his name, had a usage rate of 43%. That's 43% of UC's possessions ended in him turning it over, making a shot, or missing a shot without his team getting the rebound. That's no way win when the guy isn't lights out (which he wasn't).

I just heard Fox Sports Ohio is showing the beatdown again. I just tuned in and the second half is starting. This will be good as I missed the first 4 minutes of it due to long restroom lines.

Let the beatdown continue, again

Just wonderful - the "Whose Kilpatrick" chant/taunt during his free throws is coming over loud and clear on TV!!!!

And hearing Herb's THREE POINT FIELD GOAL!!!! call loud and clear, over the Fox Sports talking heads is great as well.

I'd say we made a good showing on the court and in the stands on this one.

And they just showed the Lenny Brown #1 in the county, #2 in their own city play!

Do you realize we didn't score in what the last 4 minutes of the game, and still won!

And the "Why so Quiet!" taunt came across loud and clear as well!

Now we need a replay of last night live chat session as well. My memory of it is kind of hazy, but I THINK it was epic.

When you hit a 3, with 3:43 on the clock, to go up 22, you often don't need to score again.

Agree. I just wanted to imagine that it was great. The reality is probably a bit less attractive.

Lovely. Absolutely lovely. From being able to taunt UC with "Why so quiet" and "Who's Kilpatrick", and the better part of it being nice and loud on TV... there's just something that really satisfies me about this win. Boy, we looked damn good.

I was thinking more along the lines of the NSA running the chat site for some inexplicable reason.

Hah! If you look under the score, it lists the players on the floor at the end of the game. All our players had "0" points, and we still won by 17.

You can tell the X vs UC fans today. The X fans are gloating in that glorious smackdown on Saturday. re UC fans are rehashing the brawl. Again.

Now comes the true war - apparently both schools are adamant about their vision for the future of the Shootout. In a battle of egos, PR, $$$, pride and what all else, who will give in

US Bank arena was a compromise. It's no longer tenable to us, so what is the new compromise. Well have our home game at Cintas and you can have your game at US Bank?

At least we can argue this after having boatraced them.

If, and I don't think anybody really wants this, the Shootout comes to an end, what an end it was. I think there is too much money involved to end it.

We should treat UC like Udump and the other mid majors we play, come to Cintas and collect a small fee every year.

coasterville95
12-16-2013, 05:02 PM
We haven't even offered UD that.

And define small fee. One article I read indicated each school gets about 220,000 from the Classic. Now they sold a lot less tickets this year so that number is going to take a hit. An article said it grossed 540,000 with 14 k sold, so using the same per capita gets you 395,000 with 10,250. They said the charity gets 50k. The arena gets 30k, and there are about 20k in fixed costs. So that's 295k this year or just under 150k to each school. So in 2 years each school took in 370k or thereabouts. Which is probably more than X made at Cintas Center on door. Concessions, merchandise and beer are another matter.

UC should be losing on the deal as they have 3,000 more seats they can sell at $40 each.

Nobody seems to acknowledge the piece of the pie being eaten by the parking operators and arena concessions, which all went to US Bank.

There is a lot of money involved here, and I can't imagine it's financially better to hold it at US Bank, primarily due to the loss of concession revenue. (And for UC parking revenue).

I was somewhat surprised to not see any Crosstown Classic merch on sale at US Bank.

Oh, and I loved the quote from one of the game write ups that the Bearcats shooting was so bad, they couldn't hit a beer mug if it was under the tap.

Yep.

Regarding UC fans: I found UC fans to be pretty good today. I had a couple of guys come up to me at the gym (I wear Xavier warmups pretty much every day when I workout so it's no secret who I was rooting for) and comment about how badly we beat the crap out of them.

And if you go on their message boards they are quick to throw their team under the bus. Let's see the salient points: they have Cronin as their coach, they don't like Cronins recruiting philosophy, they have Cronik as their coach, they don't Iile Cronins offense, they have Cronin as their coach, they have all bigs instead of all the various positions and try to win by brute force athleticism instead of basketball finesse, and they have Cronin as their coach.
