I've been a firm believer that the teams that are constantly the most overrated in the preseason poll are those that are loaded with young talent, but that lack upperclassmen leadership. That is a very general belief. There are certainly specific examples of where that is not the case, but in general, those are the teams that are ranked high in November and then fall off the face of the Earth. Case and point, last year's Kentucky team, and perhaps this year's Kentucky game as well.
Tonight's game is interesting. Kentucky hasn't beaten a solid NCAA tourney team yet. I think Boise State will be one. They are unbeaten, but they are also (for the most part) untested as well. At least this year. They were in some big games a year ago, and have pretty much everyone back. They also have what Kentucky doesn't, and that's upperclassmen leaders. I think Boise is a good team. I think they're a top 40 team. I don't think they're a top 25 team, though. If Kentucky truly is one, then this is the game that they should be expected to win easily since they're at home.
With all that being said, the only reason I started this thread is so I could share this. It's Leon Rice at his best....
Boise State had to bus from Chicago to Lexington for tonight;s game due to weather.
Great quote by Leon Rice:
“We’re not going to use it as an excuse,” Boise State coach Leon Rice told the paper. “The only thing that makes it difficult is the team we’re playing Tuesday. Our guys are pretty resilient, so I think they’ll handle it well.”
“They’ve handled it well, and handled it well in the past. My first year (in 2011), we got caught on Donner Pass on our way to Nevada. We had to eat one of the freshmen.”
