I can't get over how much this kid has improved from last year.
I want James playing 25-30 minutes a night. He is super productive. Shooting 3's at a high %, rebounding at a high rate, blocking shots, dunks, mid range jumpers. The guys has blossomed this season and deserves more PT and shot!!

Only one problem: FOULS. This kid will be a great Xavier player if he can avoid letting the referees decide how much he is allowed to play. Gret potential and just beginning to scratch surface.

I agree. This kid is my new favorite player. I remember when Mack signed him, many fans (myself included) wondered if he would ever get a chance to play because of the guys ahead of him. Now, he's the biggest matchup problem for other teams to defend. I think he has the potential to be Derrick Brown 2.0.
I also think that Jalen Reynolds shows a lot of potential. I'm envisioning the two of them being absolute beasts on the boards for the next three years.

He is playing great....and he brings another dimension to the floor with his range and ability to rebound. He's going to continue to get more minutes if he can keep himself from making silly fouls.

I don't even see a slight resemblance to Derrick Browns game?

Agreed. Why Mack insists on continuing to play and start Philmore and Stainbrook to the extent he does is mind-boggling. Similar to how Myles Davis was on the bench for the last 5 minutes of the second half when BG was taking us to overtime..... and our only shooter, who was having a great night, on the bench.

Derrick Brown was more of a drive to the basket guy. If James can change his body a little he may have an NBA future with his game but either way he will make a good living playing basketball. You can't teach 6'10" with his stroke and hands. He is pretty smooth with either hand and can snatch rebounds. He will be a great 4 year player and has an extremely bright future head of him. His weaknesses are his fouls, which he will overcome experience and coaching, and his quickness. When he learns to play defense with his feet he will stop fouling.

That and the fact that Coach got confused on who this teams go to player must be late in games. It was great Philmore made a couple of baskets but late in games everyone with a brain wins and loses by letting Semaj try to make plays.

I'm pretty sure that was Semaj with the ball in his possession when the game was on the line for our last offensive play of regulation.

Farr was the player of the game after the first half, and Philmore still started the 2nd half over him. Farr has earned the start, and as many minutes as he can stay out of foul trouble. It will be interesting to see who starts the next game, and how Philmore responds.

I personally find him slow footed and that being one of his weaknesses. I don't think he has NBA level athleticism. That being said, he is going to be a good college player.

Is his foot speed any worse than Roy Hibbert was at Georgetown?

No, but someone four inches taller doesn't need near the foot speed of the shorter man.

I don't know, just wondering here. I think James runs the floor very well. He's showing good hands and some instances of rebounding out of his territory. His shooting ability is there. Give him another 2 1/2 years to get stronger and develop better footwork and reassess.

If he even ends up being close to a 40% 3 pt shooter for his career, I think he'll get some looks from the NBA being 6 '9. He does run the floor well. His biggest improvement needs to come in the form of footwork.

I thought a couple of the foul calls against Farr were pretty suspect - he does a good job of keeping his hands up and avoiding the body foul when challenging a shot.
Just because Farr had foul trouble doesn't mean that he's the one messing up. The bigger issue is that the guards need to do a better job of keeping their man in front of them. Since the guards were so worried about fouling, Bowling Green got way too many drives to the basket and it put the bigs in a bad position.

I don't think Farr looks like an NBA prospect right now, but if he improves as much between his sophomore and junior years as he did between his freshman and sophomore years, then who knows. It's like he's a completely different person this year.

James Farr barely played walk-on minutes last year. He only played in 13 games and averaged a little over 3 minutes in those games. He averaged 1.2 points and 1.1 rebounds in those 13 games.
This year, he's averaging about 17 minutes and 8.6 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks per game. He's shooting 64% from the field and 57% from 3.
He would be averaging a double-double if he played 25-30 minutes a game.

I remember hearing him say last year that he models his game after KD, and I can see him trying to emulate that but having a handle like KD has for a guy his size is pretty much unattainable for 99% of big men.

I don't think we'll see a big shift in minutes until Farr and Reynolds refine their back to the basket games a little more. Mack's offense likes to feed the post and then they run a lot of stuff off of those feeds. Stainbrook and Philmore are both much better pure post players where Reynolds and Farr are more dynamic in the ways they can score. Personally, I think it's a good problem to have and I love seeing the depth and different personnel packages that Mack has been running out there.

10 points and 6 rebounds in limited minutes. 4-4 from the field and nailed two big threes right in front of the UC bench.
Philmore with 6 points and 2 rebounds.
I want more Jimmy Farr!!!

He's the 2nd best player on the team. He just needs to learn to control the fouls.

Second best offensive player. His defense needs more work, but it looked much better tonight, outside some dumb fouls, than it did against Evansville.

From last year to this, we have seen the blossoming of a player. His increased confidence is off the charts.
I love to see this stuff from our guys. It's the best thing about watching college basketball.

We love to talk about recruiting rankings and projections and all that crap. James Farr is playing on a high level and he came out of nowhere. I follow this team with a sickness, and where was this kid last year? For the Love of God let the man ball!
He is instantly every Xavier fans favorite new surprise. I remember them talking about how he had range, but nothing brings that point home like the towering giant knocking three after f'in three in from beyond the stripe. And he rebounds like a rabid dog. That man is on a mission. I had to check the tape to make sure he was on the roster last year.
Early on I was afraid. I thought it might be a one or two game Jeff Robinson burst. Jeff Robinson had some incredible games for us. Most were followed by some not incredible games, including some games if you wondered if Jeff Robinson ever actually played.
I am starting to believe that James Farr is the Real F'in Deal.
I love this kid. I mean really. Funny how all the preseason talk with recruiting rankings and such gets played out, and then this kid just busts out as a player. Players play. I love this kid. I think he is going to play basketball for Xavier University.

There's nothing better than a player forcing his way onto the court by dominating during his minutes. I'm happy for the young man who has, by all accounts, worked his tail off to get better since joining the program.
