Two Big East teams again next year? Strange.

How come we never get invited to Maui or Alaska or even the pre season NIT? Dayton has been to two Maui's and they are an embarrassment to the basketball world. Honestly it doesn't really matter because. X doesn't do well in these tournaments. When was the last time X won one? TU's freshman year?

We're playing in the '18 Maui Classic

It's exciting to be a part of these tournaments, and obviously even though it's not Maui it's not that big of a deal considering Kansas and Michigan State think it's a good tournament to be in!!

Nice!! Any idea who is the field? I guess I can look that up. Either way the Old Spice Classic looks solid next year very solid.

They book these fields a few years in advance; Xavier was already locked into the Old Spice field when they were still in the A-10. It's the same reason that you see Xavier/Villanova in Atlantis and Marquette/Creighton (former MVC) in the Wooden Tradition together.

Alaska is a shell of what it once was as far as who gets invited; it's far better to play in a tournament setting like this to get 2 or 3 shots at decent competition. Charleston in 2015, for example, isn't a sexy name as far as other exempt events, but it does have some BCS teams and decent mid-majors who don't get invited to other events.

The Preseason NIT doesn't have as much luster as it once did considering that they usually invite 4 teams and 12 sacrificial lambs for the right to play at Madison Square Garden around Thanksgiving. With Xavier now in the Big East, they will now have a couple of opportunities to play in MSG that they rarely had in years past.

Yeah your right about the NIT. It use to be the only pre season tournament that I was aware of. Here is a list of the tournaments X is in in case you didn't already know.

2014: Old Spice Classic, Florida

2015: Charleston Classic, South Carolina

2016: DirecTV Classic, California

2017: Nike Tournament, Oregon (16-team event honoring Nike co-founder Phil Knight’s 80th birthday)

2018: Maui Invitational, Maui

This...everytime we go to one of these warm weather tourneys, we shit the bed. The only one I remember playing well in was in Chicago, when we smashed IU. I wouldn't spend a couple grand to go to one of these to see them lay an egg right off the bat. It would put me in a bad mood the rest of the trip. Just get it over with and get back home.

Forgotten about the Puerto Rico tournament in 2009? Xavier won that one with wins over Mizzou, Virginia Tech (with a half-court shot to boot) and Memphis.

It was nice to see Xavier win both of those tournaments, but it didn't define those whole seasons, either.

It is what it is. We will bounce back.
