View Full Version : The absurdity that is James Farr (and other VERY early stats)

First, the necessary caveats--primarily that this is from a VERY limited sample size in both games and minutes. And it has been against mostly mediocre competition.

That said, here are the Per 40 Minutes stats for each Muskie after 5 games:
1304

NOTE: For some reason you have to click on the thumbnail to expand it

And here are the advanced stats sorted by Win Shares Per 40 Minutes:
1305

great stuff

I think its fair to say that he's earned additonal playing time

well done, keep it up !

At his current rate of improvement, we won't have to worry about the extra scholarship spot next season. Farr will be gone, and headed to the NBA. Obviously being sarcastic there, but I have become a huge fan of his.

Kenpom stats (for which he doesn't qualify minutes-wise):

Offensive Rating of 141.2 (Would be third).
Effective FG Pct of 78.8% (Eighth)
Offensive Rebounding Pct of 27.0% (FIRST!)
Defensive Rebounding Pct of 28.7% (Thirtieth)
Block Percentage of 9.3% (Top 100)

Absurd.

The tandem of Far and Reynolds is utterly impressive to watch together. They cause fits and throw a completely different frontcourt look after Stainbrook and Philmore. So much potential with both, but those youngsters are the truth.

I was just so happy to see him relatively productive (although a foul MACHINE) against Tennesse.

We won't see that length/athleticism every game but its good to know he can handle his own.

If Big Play James can average 29 points, 19 rebounds, and 3 blocks along with 7 fouls a game, it will be quite impressive. He would be in the discussion for the Wooden award for sure!

I am loving me some Jimmy Farr.

He's long and is agile enough to get out and hedge then get back down low. His technique on the hedge is improving every game and the guy just goes after EVERY stinking rebound. The improvement we are seeing is ala Jason Love, although Jimmy has a much more polished offensive game. His jump shot is sweet.

Obviously, there is still a lot of learning and improvement to do, but this kid's attitude and work ethic is impressive. Can't wait to see what's next.

I actually am impressed with all of our bigs.

Holy crap look at the advanced stats. 4 of the top 5 are our main 4 bigs. We have upgraded tremendously in that area compared to last year. Coming into the season and based on the eye test the first couple of games I expected us to be more crowded in the backcourt. If you're a numbers guy though, clearly our strength is in the frontcourt.

Farr will probably be playing a good 20 minutes or so a game in the Bahamas with Stenger being out. It would be awesome if he can continue stuffing the stat sheet against really good competition.

I would love to see Farr keep sticking those jumpers then start using that high release and long stroke and give a little pump fake. If he can get his man in the air, he might be able to get to the rim and get a layup, a foul, or both.

Farr is going to be a awesome player for sure. I hope he can keep it up against better teams, I think he will. Funny some people had him pegged as a transfer for after the season...

I did.

I love being wrong sometimes.

I liked him when I first saw the YouTubes on him and I still like the two things that stand out. I believe somewhere along the line his mom or grandmother said he was here to get a degree. And the dude is left-handed, like another Xavier great who made him player of the game Monday night---Byron Larkin.

First saw him in Maine, playing prep at Maine Central. He was far and above the most talented player on the court, pretty much did whatever he wanted to anywhere on the court.
It was disappointing to see him go flat last year with so little playing time and production. Coach Mack has talked about his playing time staying up as long as his defensive intensity stays up.
This year so far for him says alot about his character. Seeing the quality of the players around him coupled with his experience from last year, a lesser man might have left XU for a lower level and easy opportunity at PT.
I have a feeling that the future may be just as bright for this James, as it is for the other (backwards) James on the team!
