Race to fifty?

OK, clearly I'm launching this thread a little early.
But there are some good reasons.
1 - Students should be there force
2 - Looking at the national scene if you are a basketball junkie, this is the only game on national broadcast on Wednesday. The rest of the slate requires computer feeds (ESPN 3), special packages, (ESPNU) or are regional telecasts. We are the only game in town for one night this year. ESPN is showing NBA, and the deuce has some football game on. Campbell at Cincinnati, Dayton at Georgia Tech? Please.
3 - Give Blobfan a chance to change avatar and respect streak.
I hope (I know this is a long shot) that they give us the #1 announcers. That would be the icing on the cake.

This is a Charlie Coles Miami team anymore, they've given up over 70 points in both games so far this season which was unheard of under Coles.

This game will barely be a blip on the radar screen of 99% of college basketball fans. Sorry, its just not there.
Locally even, Miami has been so bad since Wally that Im not sure most of their fans even care about basketball anymore.

Also, Reynolds the first big off the bench - not Philmore. Philmore's wrist maybe a little sore after hurting it in practice.

It's refreshing that we don't have to just rely on Semaj, we have so much more this year, and way many more threats. We looked very fluid tonight, and thank god the refs didn't blow the whistle every 12 seconds. Also our three point shooting was great. Hats off to Justin Martin too, he had a pretty good game, aaaand Semaj was a lot better from the three point strike. This was without Philmore too, which is pretty exciting stuff! ON TO ACBU OR WHATEVER!

Just a few things: X swept all important categories, points in paint, 32-20, rebounding 42-25, pts of TO, 15-10, 30 made baskets, 20 assists, 2d chance 20-2, fast break 15-12, 9 turnovers, 8 of 12 FT, 66.7 held a team under 52 pts, held their leading scorer Reggie Johnson to 5 pts, 18 below his average. Total team effort even if it's a cliche, 4 double figure scorers led by James Farr, 11-11 reb. Dee Davis 15. best game yet.

A game like last nights is big. It allows players like Farr and Reynolds to play meaningful minutes and gain confidence.
However, Big East Big men like Providence's Batts, Nov's Pinkston, St. John's Sampson and others will be tougher than the guys Miami rolled out last night.
Regardless, watching those 2 last night, with their different skill set's, yet playing together, was fantastic.

Right now, the odds are better of NKU getting a home-and-home than Miami.
At least NKU has the excuse of going through their transitional phase (currently in Year 2) to Division I.

I have to admit, despite the fact that I completely understand the reasons behind it, it sucks that we're apparently not going to be playing Miami and Dayton. Miami less than Dayton, because I think the Dayton rivalry is a lot of fun, but it still sucks.
I'd also hoped that now that NKU is in D1 we'd strike up a series with them, but the likeliness of that seems very small as well.
Again, I understand the landscape we're in now, but it would be nice if we continued to play the local teams, despite their stature.

I am sure the coaches do not feel that way. You gain very little by playing those teams and stand to lose much more. Why would anyone want to play at Miami? And why play a team like Dayton who views you as their superbowl? Dayton wants to recruit against Xavier so why play them? I would much rather play home and homes with schools that can help you.

I agree to a certain extent. We certainly can't just fill up our OOC schedule with all of these schools though, so for me it would have to be an every other year kind of situation. One year we might play NKU, the next Miami, whoever else you want to throw in the mix.

It just isn't going to happen. As you said you understand the landscape, and I am sure you understand the reality of why we can't play home and homes with the likes of Miami, Akron, and Wright State. The rivalry will suffer with Miami, mostly because they suck so bad. The dayton rivalry will remain, no matter how often we play the melon humpers up north.
It would be nice if we filled up our "buy game" non con schedule with local teams, but again, that is unrealistic. If we schedule Miami at Miami, we are supposed to win. Even if we win, it is no surprise, and no benefit. We play them at Cintas, we are supposed to win, and there is even less benefit. If we lose to Miami at Miami, it is a mark on our season we can't remove. The ramifications are felt long after the game, and the benefits to playing them (and beating them) there, do NOT outweigh the rewards of chancing a loss. We lose to them at home, it is even worse, but the chances of losing to them at home when they are as lousy as they are now are not that great.

I still think we need a Tri-State Championship. UK, UL, IU, Purdue, ND, XU, UC, OSU. Every other year.
Now THAT is an exempt event right there. The fourth game could be at each home site against another team from the Tri-state - like this:
Game 1 for UK: Ball St.
Game 1 for UL: Dayton
Game 1 for IU: Cleveland St.
Game 1 for Purdue: Kent St.
Game 1 for ND: Miami(OH)
Game 1 for XU: Indiana St.
Game 1 for UC: Valparaiso
Game 1 for OSU: Western Kentucky
Then you seed the 8 team tournament based on RPI at the time of the event and play it at different arenas each year. Rupp, KFC Yum!, Cintas, etc.
