Muskie is asleep. I think the game is tonight.
Rules to remember:

1 - Be in seat before tip off
2 - No standing to block others' view
3 - Sit opposite Fox cameras to give impression of full arena
4 - No leaving before the final buzzer
5 - If you see Snipe or Kahns loitering in upper concourse, buy them a beer so they will owe you one too
6 - Always respect the streak

Don't they have some kid averaging 25 a game right now or something? Oh and Kenneth Faried went there, fun fact.. But they are usually pretty decent, I still think we should be fine, as long as we play our game, and don't do anything drastically dumb, like Semaj getting in foul trouble, or Stainbrook. Those guys make this team tick.

ArizonaXUGrad

Looks like they play some small ball. Warner scored 25 in their first D1 game and is 6-2 195. They started 3 guards at 5-10, 6-2, and 6-3 and a 6-6 forward and a 6-10 center.

Team shot a ton of 3s against ETSU (60 total shots and 25 threes). ETSU's tallest player was 6-7 and 6-6 was their tallest starter. Obviously, Morehead out rebounded them.

1-Depends on how much of a mess parking is but I'll try.
2-What if the people I'm blocking are too lazy to stand for the opening basket?
3-What team are we talking about? I'm planning to attend a XAVIER game. I don't think crowd size will be an issue.
4-Friday night, date night, hubby is DD...I think I can comply with this.

Yes the foul situation is getting irritating. With the increased number of foul calls it's good the sword sound effect seems to already be gone.

Just as an aside- halftime didn't start till 9pm or after, that's when it should have ended. We have the very real chance of more head state getting double bonus with 12 minutes left

The end game could get real interesting with foul trouble.

This is ruining the flow of the game.

The New Basketball Strategy

Offense
Run a weave at the top of the key, drive to the basket, get the foul, shoot free throw.

Defense
Don't touch person going to the basket, pray that they miss, get the rebound.

I left the game close to an hour ago and there was still about 9 minutes on the game clock. It isn't basketball when the ref's call 70-80 fouls, and I refuse to watch the sham of a game. I was sort of hoping the whole place would walk out in protest of one abominably officiated game, and leave the place empty except for the whistles. I feel sorry for the players; they can't possibly have a clue how to play when the game is officiated the way this one was.

Nice to see the coming out of Reynolds, with only 2 fouls. I predicted big things from him, and I hope he is getting the confidence he needs. There were 56 foul calls, or is that the total score of Morehead S. Every player scored, except Richards, and that is a good. Mack can throw in players from the bench and expect them to score........we have depth. I am esp. pleased to see 20 assists and 6 blocks. Oh yes, 70% team FT shooting is a big improvement, even though Christon was still struggling from the FT line. Overall, a very good team effort and a great win.

100% agreed. the players live with it, it's part of the game, sometimes there's a lot of fouls. I had to watch this game on non HD TV, with a couple of the worlds biggest tools as announcers. They couldn't even figure out who had been in the game and who had not, and that JMart was out of the Tenn game because of a concussion issue. I'd have given one nut to be at Cintas.

You don't actually think that leaving with 9 minutes left on the clock is a referee protest do you? It just makes you look like a bored, fair weather fan. Look, I doubt X-Man left the game because he's not a good Xavier fan. I love basketball and so these rule changes are really frustrating for me, too, if this number of fouls keep being called. After spending some time researching the rules changes and reading up on different analysis, I'm feeling more optimistic that this will be a good thing in the long run...but as someone who just loves basketball, I totally identify with X-Man's reaction. I'm going to be sick if this ends up negatively impacting college basketball (though, again, I'm optimistic it's ultimately a good thing).

Some important stats:
1)28 XU made baskets--20 assists, no selfish players;
2)Points in paint, X50, MH, 16.;
3) 56 fouls called,
4)MH held to 18.5 % ist half, 29.2 for game;
5)X 21-30 FTs 70%
Great game to watch but too many fouls

That, I am not. I am on the faculty at X, and could get free tickets if I chose. Instead I buy season tickets, and Premium II tickets at that on a prof's salary, because I LOVE Xavier basketball and want to support the team. I have been a season ticket buyer for about 25 years, and I go to every game. My second ticket goes to a series of friends because my wife doesn't like sports.

Last night was just too frustrating. At the 16 minute mark of the second half, the ref's were on track to call 50 foulfs...in the second half! And this on top of 30 first half fouls. I know that it isn't fair to the players, and I get it how difficult it must be for them to adjust. But last night was dominated by three extraordinarily incompetent officials. You might recall that we didn't have this kind of game against Tennessee.

Impugn my motives all you want, but I am a good and loyal fan. And last night I just couldn't take another whistle. I had to get out of there or I was going to do something I would later regret.

Choppy game because of the fouls.

-Stain is the real deal and sees the court wonderfully.
-Our freshmen guards had freshman guard games. Myles shot was off and Brandon dribbled right into turnovers. That is why having depth is a wonderful thing.
-Dee played like Dee, very well. Hit a shot when he got it and steadied the shop.
-There is just something not right with JMart. He seems to be trying but shot an ugly airball 3 over the rim and missed sone other shots too. He was hesitant to take open 3's that the team will need for him to make down the road. He did make his free throws though.
-Jalen Reynolds looked much more comfortable. The kid will be a force when he settles down.
-Everyone else played as expected.
-Student section is superb. Way to step it up, folks.

I think Dee Davis is going to be much better being that "pass first" guard as Chris wants him to be. He will have less pressure on him this year and he should have a great year.

Still worried about free throws and outside shooting. This team does defend and if it can get out and run they are tough.

Agreed. I think Dee never felt comfortable in the role pushed on him last year. Like Drew Lavender, he's a pass-first point guard that relies on strong offensive options around him, but unlike Drew Lavender, he's not individually enough of a scorer to be one of the main offensive options (hence, he's even more reliant on those around him than Drew was). On a team like this, Dee has the opportunity to simply run a smooth offense that makes those offensive options more efficient, dish out assists, and score when the opportunity presents itself. He does that very well, and I'll take a 2.25:1 A/TO ratio against a trapping team any day. I don't think this will be the last game we see Dee shoot decently from the field (58% effective field goal percentage) yet still garner more assists than points.

Yeah, something was weird with his shooting, with his only made field goal coming off a fast break. I was happy to see him active, though, even when he kept missing (which was usually a recipe for him to put his head down and mentally check out). He grabbed a couple rebounds, got a couple steals, moved well with and without the ball, and got to the line four times in just 13 minutes. So if it was just a weird shooting game for him from which he'll bounce back, his overall play was promising. Even if he's just an aggressive role player, he'll make this team much better.

I do think in the long run it will be a good thing. Offensive movement in recent years has been painful, with defenders becoming abusive on and off the ball (especially off the ball on cuts and screens) and charges being called far too often in comparison to blocks. That needed to be rectified, so now we're going to deal with some painful games in the short run. What I worry about is that we'll run into refs that will not be willing to call all those fouls, which will lead to an inconsistent message that prolongs this transition (or even causes it to fail).

That being said, I think these refs last night would have been whistle-happy in any season.
