Dayton beat Xavier in Cincinnati. Decided to post this in the "Around the NCAA" section since Xavier basketball has moved on beyond their program in so many ways. Until that day they're back on our schedule (if that happens) no need to put them in our basketball section, IMO.

I was bored a while back in a doctor's office waiting way too long and this came to mind. I put it in my calendar to remind me. I also looked back to where I was in my life and how things have changed. I was out of Xavier for 3 years, not yet married and my 5 kids were well in my future. I was in the bourbon business but my career has taken many twists and turns since. Kind of similar to the changes in Xavier passing their program. Life's been good. So is Xavier basketball.

Possible things I was doing on Saturday, January 10th, 1981.
Mite Hockey in-house game
Basketball game at local grade school
Thinking about the cool RB from Georgia named Hershel Walker who just won the National Championship
Mourning the recent death of Stymie in the little Rascals.
"Betting" my little buddies that Art Schlichter would be great NFL QB

You're welcome.

Pursuing my MBA at Xavier University, wondering if some guy named Bob Staak would actually eventually fix the train wreck that was Xavier Basketball.

It all worked out well.

I spoke to Greg Christopher before the last game when he was making the rounds in the Duff Center. The subject of the Miami series came up, and I asked if it was a series we would continue. He explained that any time Miami wants to play in the Cintas Center, we will be fine with the game. He went to say "there is nothing to gain" by playing Miami in Oxford. And I agree.

Greg went on to say "it's the same conversation (he) has had with the dayton folks". Meaning they can come down here and play, but we aren't going to do any home and homes with them in the near future. There is nothing for Xavier to gain by playing them in UDump Arena. He also reportedly heard "that Archie guy, what's his name?" -- exactly how he said it too -- has a condition in his contract that will pay him $200k if he coaches a win against Xavier in Cincinnati. He wasn't sure if it was true or not, and I thought it was funny as hell he didn't know Archie Miller's last name.

Here's to another 12,000 more days of dayton not beating us here in Cincinnati!

200K for a win against Xavier in Cincinnati?

Wow. That's insane.

Because we all know that won't ever happen.

There's comedic gold in Nut's hills if even part of that is true.
Not knowing Archie's last name?
No value in going to the fabled Udump?
$200K to beat us in the Cintas?
Priceless.
(I bet Miller would come here just to have a crack at the $. His AD probably won't let him)

My mom and dad were not yet married. They were married for 30 years when my dad died in 2011. I wouldn't be born for another three years.

Saying "32 years" or "Jimmy Carter" doesn't really capture just how long it's been. If I think about all the things my dad did in the last 30 years of his life, it makes it seem much, much longer. In his married life, he never saw Dayton beat Xavier in Cincinnati. Ridiculous.

Went to AFC Championship. Bengals vs. SD, I believe. -9, wind chill -60. Coldest I have ever been. Moved to Florida in March. They lost the SuperBowl to SF.

I was actually working (for Jimmy Carter) at the US Dept of Labor in Washington! I came to Xavier in 1984, so I have the distinct privilege of never seeing the cryers win here during my long employment at Xavier.

Living in Atlanta, working for Ford Motor Company with a 1 year old and trying to get my ass back to Ohio.

And kicking myself that I didn't have enough cash to invest in a pile of CD's that were paying 17% interest at the time.

I was also still in mourning over the Browns losing to the Raiders because of Red Right 88 the week before. I then went to the Super Bowl in New Orleans two weeks later as a Ford Host for a dealer award trip. the Eagles vs Raiders. It should have been the Browns.

Sorry, Bobby. You're a year ahead. The Bengals/SF Super Bowl was in 1982 in the Pontiac Silverdome.

I was living in Japan. I would like to think had I been stateside that Dayton win never would have happened.

I was 11. Little did I know that my new stepfather would introduce me to the Musketeers the next year, 1982, and that I would still, even after all of these years, never know what it feels like to leave a home game with a loss to Dayton.

I like it.

I was probably at that game, but I have no recollection of it. I won't blame the decades that have passed.... it was probably foggy at best the next day.

I have no idea, but if it was a Thursday, I was probably at Smuggler's Inn trying to pound as many 25 cent beers as possible before midnight. Wow, Friday work days were rough back then.

hahahahahaha.

I was approximately 18 months old thinking about ways for Xavier University to never hire Mike the sham Graham. Unfortunately I was unsuccessful. Thank gosh Chris Mack stayed through all the nonsense and didn't give in to a terrible leader.

I was 8 days away from being born....literally, I'm probably the Xavier fan born closest to that last loss. I take full credit for the streak.

That was roughly one year before my dad took me to my first XU game, when we BEAT Dayton. That was the first game in the streak. Check that - the first game in the lifestyle.
