As an old player and coach, there is nothing better than the start of a new college and high school basketball season. Sorry, but the NBA barely counts. I like to see actual coaching with guys who listen.

Xavier, and the rest of the Big East (wow, does that sound good) open up tonight. How long have we had "Catholic Conference" debates on this and other boards going back years? Now it has happened for real...and it is good.

No more emailing and cajoling the marketing reps at TV stations and cable outlets to get Xavier games shown in our home markets. No more being relegated to cable access channels run out of barns with mice treadmills running the generators. No more driving around in your car looking for the best place to get reception so you might pick up bits and pieces of a radio broadcast. No more hitting refresh every 10 seconds hoping for a score update on a ticker. No more seeing road games in glorified garages and grade school gyms that were built before Methusala was born (other than Butler). No more.

My man cave is fully outfitted and stocked for a long winter of Xavier and Big East basketball watching. The Big Screen TV is hooked into my state of the art surround sound system. I have my IHeart radio site all set for the Byron and Joe broadcast. My wife is ready to be a widow to my college basketball obsession for the next 5 months. I shall become a pasty faced, haggard slave to the College Basketball Gods, only to emerge when I decide to make the pleasant trek to Cincinnati to occupy my season seats that I share with Muskie. (Damn, I guess I have to go to work too.) I also, however, will emerge to take my necessary, obligatory and required road trips as a Lew Hirt Society Brother. There are new venues to explore and new arenas where I am willing to suffer the slings and arrows of toothless, indigent and less intelligent opposition fans in this new league.

We have seen the past that set us up for the present. The future is incredible. It is like Christmas morning.

Let these games begin!

Have you had the NSA tracking my movements? I thought I had done a pretty good job of masking that activity.
(have not figured out a good explanation for the little lady yet though on why I'm gone for 2 hours to get a quart of milk)

Not at this one, Nuts. This one is Muskie's game. Soon, however. Soon.

I am currently working on convincing my wife to purchase the sports package for DirecTV right now. I'm trying to tell her that if I want to watch X all season, then it's cheaper than me going to a bar every time they play and spending lots of money. Alas, she currently is somewhat convinced, and I should be able to watch the game at home tonight!

Married life is hard.

That's cute that you still ask her before just ordering the package you want. Newlyweds are the best.

Isn't the sports package like $10 per month at DirecTV? Sound like a no-brainer to me.

Also, I'm with Go. It's funny how a marriage evolves.

"Honey, I ordered the DirecTV Sports package. It's showing up the next bill."

$12 or so. Loans are due for the first time this month. I got in trouble for buying a six pack last night. She's on call for the rest of the week, so it's simply teasing her that she can't really enjoy it until Monday, while I'll be having a few.

I thought you worked in athletics. That's your excuse. You pretty much have to max out your DirecTV.

Fixed that for you. Anyone who has ever endured,er enjoyed, watching and listening to MOR in an opponents venue can testify on this topic.

Great post MOR.

We've waited a very long time for this.

Now it's time to demonstrate that the remodeled Big East, which has been taken back to its roots, can, in fact, be a force in major college basketball. We do that by emphasizing basketball with 9 other solid schools that do the same.

p.s. Titan, congratulations on navigating this thing called "marriage."

Dude. Have you called DTV yet? Every year I add the sports package and get some other discount so it's basically free (at least for 3 months).

Maybe the new rules are an early Christmas present for Semaj and the Muskies.

I know you've sacrificed your freedom and everything.....but it's $2 a game with the sports package. If $2 a game is too much for you to watch X basketball, your going to have bigger problems. You should've married someone who is oblivious to bills and money managing like me! ;-)

Looks like the Big East in general should benefit (according to this article). It will be interesting to see if this plays out in reality.

First off, welcome back from the dead.

Second, I am glad that she agreed. Got it for $8. I can't complain.

Third, now that she's the bread winner, she's pretty conscious of our finances. Which is probably for the best.

It looks like they raised prices on everything but tickets. I'm not going to complain too much about that. You can still go to a game without buying a bunch of food and a parking spot.

Sorry DrewsCrew. Looks like Titan found someone prettier than you.

Don't tell him that. He thinks he's prettier than his own wife. The ego that lives and infests that kid dominates everything he does...I should know.

The best description of Drews Crew is the old saying, "Those who do not adhere to logic cannot be conquered by it." Try getting into an argument or discussion with him and find out how true this is.

It was fun living with the guy though.
