I'm seriously curious - why would a former head coach want an assistant coach position at the school where he used to be a head coach? I mean, if he was joining Pat Summit or something, I'd get it, but I'm a little confused.

His coaching tenure was during Xavier's MCC days - it was a different level of competition back then.
Wasn't he also an assistant at UC just a couple of years ago?

He coached my wife at X. Nice guy, so-so coach. Went to his wedding and it was outdoors at Coney Island in the summer and it was close to 90 degrees. Never sweated so much in a suit in all my life. Had a dry wedding. Really, WTF, who does that? So me and another guy went into the park and bought our own beers.
Very odd he would come back as an assistant but you's got to pay the bills I guess.

Sounds like a good situation for all involved. I doubt there were any more head coaching jobs in his future, and adds a lot of experience to our bench.

Seems like a good hire to me. Remember, it's October -- not prime time to be hiring coaches, because they're already, you know, coaching.
He was on Maria Fantanarosa's staff at Miami, and she was fired after last season. Seems like a good deal for all parties.
