Now that the Rays have beat the Rangers for Game 163, it's officially the postseason!
As someone with friends of both WC teams tonight (I got my Master's in Pittsburgh), I'm a bit conflicted, but in the end, I have to root for the team who has been putting out a good product year after year recently (the Reds) over the team whose fans should just be happy that they made the playoffs after ending a 20-year losing streak. Plus, I hate Steelers and Penguins fans, and they're often one and the same. Either way, I'm hoping for a Cardinals sweep in the next round!
Here's a helpful chart (http://www.sportsonearth.com/article/62260854) for who you should root for. ;-)

I agree with you on rooting for the Reds over the Pirates. It's a big pet peeve of mine that we're supposed to feel so happy for these poor, suffering Pittsburgh fans who haven't seen playoff baseball in a million years. I, the kid from Washington, DC, am supposed to feel bad for these people who have been winning Super Bowls and Cups and conducting themselves as one of the most obnoxious fan bases in the country, because they've had terrible ownership and management of their baseball team? Give me a break. I hope tonight is the last playoff baseball game Pittsburgh fans get to see until another 25 years.

My graduate mentor is a Pirates fan and a Royals fan (his family is based out of there), but completely apathetic about football and hockey. It's been a rough couple decades for him.

Is anyone catching this Cardinals-Pirates game? The Cards just took it to A.J. Burnett in the 3rd, scoring seven runs off him via home run, walk, single, and error. He didn't even get an out in the inning.

The best part was the beginning: Adam Wainwright didn't draw a walk once in the ntire regular season (71 at-bats). t home. Then, he draws a walk to start off the post-season and ends up making it home for the go-ahead run!

Just finished watching the announcers salivate over the Dodgers and Yasiel Puig, who is apparently "one of the best stories of the past decade, if not longer." Ugh. Just one postseason, I'd love to see no teams from one of the coasts or Chicago. Just picture this list:
AL:
Toronto
Kansas City
Minnesota
Cleveland
Texas
NL:
Atlanta (they get swept in the NLDS)
St. Louis
Cincinnati
Pittsburgh
Arizona
TV executives wouldn't know what to do with themselves...

BTW. They must have lured 30,000 homeless Florida people into Tropicana Tent with free hot dogs.

LA is pushing to knock Atlanta out early with a lead-off double in the 8th by Puig. Base hit ties the game...and they're trying to bunt. *facepalm*

For a minute there, I thought Dusty had moved back to LA already. ~"~
In all seriousness, I wish Dusty well. By all accounts he's a very good person. Personally, I hope that he enjoys a stress-free retirement, at least for a little while.

I really wanted to like Atlanta this year because I love the Uptons and Heyward but McCann and Chris Johnson ruined that for me with their bullshit in the last month of the season. I find those two so insufferable that I wanted the Dodgers to win the series. Also, the statements from announcers about how Freddie Freeman should be MVP made my head hurt. I couldn't listen to that crap anymore either.

Crazy finish with the walk-off home run!
Baseball has been such a bummer in Chicago lately.
That walk-off was the coolest thing I've seen in baseball in years.
Great stuff.
No idea who that guy is.
I told Spike Cooley XU'19 as the HR pitch was delivered,
"You don't want a guy with 59 on his back hitting for you in the bottom of the ninth in October."
Boom!

Watching FS Live this morning, I couldn't believe they were trying to make about big deal about the play at the plate. When the ball beats the runner by that much and he doesn't try to avoid the tag he is always called out.

But it's hard not to be impressed by a team that dumps Pujols and is right back in it again, up 2-0.

Detroit has the best 1-2 punch in terms of starting pitchers - they'd really be frightening even with an above-average offense at this point.

Give the devil his due though...if this was 75 years ago, both teams would own their pennants and be in it anyway.

A decent number of the Cards' pennants and a few of their subsequent World Series came about that way...and a lot of the Yankees'.
Spurred by some bad errors and completed by some timely hitting, Boston opened it up for Game 1 and now has a 1-0 lead going into tomorrow.

Game 4 was the second game in this Series where the game ended on "That just happened?" note. Beltran, the October hero, comes to the plate with the chance to tie the game on a homer or extend it with a base hit or walk. To win the game, the pitcher must get by him, right? Nope, he picks off Kolten Wong at first. Considering that Wong didn't even represent the tying run, I have no idea why he was that far off the base, but what a strange way for the game to end.
As someone tweeted, "This Series is on drugs."

Prediction: Cardinals win tomorrow night because:
1) Wacha is on the mound.
2) It's difficult to win three games in a row.
The Red Sox then win Game 7, because I just don't see St. Louis winning two games in Boston, and whoever the Cardinals put out there as the starting pitcher simply won't be Wacha.

I think I've contributed plenty in this thread that's baseball-related already, seeing as I started it and then had the most posts. Is there some quota that you don't think I fulfilled? Or are you just upset because the best smack you have against the Cardinals concerns how they lost in the World Series (with a young roster mostly returning, by the way), while the Reds didn't make it past the play-in game?
