Had the men's soccer program turned the corner? or was that just a one year deal. 3 losses to open the season has me thinking

They've been to three straight NCAA's, so it wasn't a one year thing. Tough schedule so far, but it gets no easier in the Big East.

It's been an abysmal start to a promising season. The program is most certainly on the rise (and in very good hands), but a preseason ranking was a good bit ambitious. As it is, this year was bound to be tough with our entry into the Big East. With a start like this, it's going to look pretty bad on paper. But we'll survive. Three steps forward, one step back is still two steps forward...

I think there is still time for a great season, but the team is going to need to round into form rather quickly for the conference schedule.

Don't seem to be scoring goals, definitely missing Luke's presence, and the goals that have been allowed have been pretty soft goals, which is hard when you're replacing 3 out of 4 on your back line, I just think they need a little more time to gel together, and don't be fooled, Furman, and Northwestern are damn good programs as well. I think they'll swing it around, just need some more time to click.

Don't get me wrong, it's not that I think there's no chance to turn the season around. But starting off 0-3 in the OOC is a huge hole no matter the competition level (and bear in mind we also dropped an exhibition to Belmont). I think this team is still a year away, but I wouldn't be shocked to see a late-year run.

AD Christopher told us last week he believes our soccer program can win a national title by being in the Big East.

Even the MAC can produce national title winners - see Akron a couple of years ago.
Charlotte was also in the title game recently as well.

We can. Then again, we also could have won a national title from the A-10. I'm not saying conference affiliation is meaningless -- the ACC, BiG, Big East and Pac 12 are traditional powers -- but non-BCS schools have done fairly well in soccer. Notables include Akron (back-to-back championship appearances in the last 5 years), UC Santa Barbara (2 finals appearances in 3 years), Charlotte, New Mexico, Santa Clara, San Diego, and even Florida International. In fact, there has been a non-BCS school in the championship game 6 of the last 9 years.
The program is definitely on the the right track. Hell, it's trajectory over the last 3 years is practically (if not actually) unprecedented. I think the opening to this season is a hiccup.

Big win last night - Xavier pulls off a 2-1 win over a Top 10 Georgetown team at home.
