I get the dancing and twerking, but I have no idea why she kept sticking her tongue out like a thirsty dog in front of a water bowl.
She is a strange bird for sure. It's a matter of time before she self destructs and poses nude for Playboy.

I am not offended by Miley's "behavior" but what I am offended by is how she thinks she is good looking and she is pretty damn average. And I mean average on a normal person scale. For famous people that makes her below average.

I'm offended by her inability to sing without autotune. You'd have thought parents would quit taking their tweens to her shows after the stripper pole performance. Maybe this will finally wake people up. She's a terrible role model and her music is catchy but vapid and easily replaceable.
I never thought anyone could make Madonna's Like A Virgin floor humping look restrained, but Miley did it.

Bomani Jones also made a good point last night on his podcast. Twerking or shaking your ass has been around for decades. How is just becoming a big deal now? 2 Live Crew was rapping about it in the early 90s. Nice to see white people are only 20 years behind on things now.

They're laughing all the way to the bank. Elvis, Madonna, Lady Gaga... people might argue with the level of the talent, the shock and awe is the same formula. And the medium is evolving. I saw yesterday that a recent Selena Gomez video has 115 million (+) views in only a few months. I'm sure there are acts with more.. Like Thicke and Daft Punk.

When I see Robin Thicke, I always think I'm watching a bizarro episode of Growing Pains.

I don't think it was the shaking of her ass as much as the rubbing of a giant finger on her crotch and the simulation of oral sex. And 2 Live Crew wasn't a teen girl on the Disney Channel prior to their shock act.

I've seen it suggested that the French got all over the US on the hot young singer front, and after watching the below I'm in full agreement.

Please don't ever lump Thicke in with Daft Punk. Ever, Ever, Ever! If they sit next to each other, or perform at the same event refer to them separately. Daft Punk has earned at least that.

Growing Pains itself was Bizarro World.
Alan Thicke in a serious role
Leonardo DeCaprio in a supporting role
A character named Boner (God rest his soul)

I see old Miley made the Ridiculist and Cooper has a point that the attempt to stun is so predictable. I'm still grossed out by watching a child pleasure herself with a foam finger, but he made me laugh. My favorite part is at 2:30. Wasn't expecting that.

Now the female office chatter is saying Cyrus and Kanye skipped the after parties and went straight to the recording studio. I will turn on my egg timer for when that same female chatter starts referring to the previous night's episode of that Kardasian reality show and how Kim is crazed after realizing he nailed her.

So Gene Simmons tongues is giggity, huh? Cause that's all I thought of while she was prancing around. That and one of those hairless tufted dogs. Most of what she did was just plain gross. It was masturbating with the foam finger that I found offensive. If she'd kept her mouth closed while doing it she might have appeared playfully naughty but with that 3 foot tongue hanging out of her mouth she looked in desperate need of syphilis meds.
Knowing she's 20 doesn't make me feel better. Clearly she's still a child, acting out in order to get attention. It's sickening that someone didn't suggest a different choice.

The masturbating was my favorite part! Her tongue is strangely big, like she has some sort of deformity. She could have her nose on a dude's belly button and still tongue his taint.
All kidding aside, this line is the absolute truth..."Clearly she's still a child, acting out in order to get attention. It's sickening that someone didn't suggest a different choice".
Sorry, but you all deserve to have witnessed whatever that abortion apparently was for EVER tuning into MTV.

Didn't tune in. I read newspapers online and couldn't avoid seeing the pics. Read the story because I was wondering what manufactured idiocy was going on and was truly disgusted. It's like when you see a drunken passed out homeless person in the street covered and in her own vomit. It's sad but you just want to walk away.

Some of this description is hilarious. Sad. Pathetic. But also hilarious. I'm going to couple this with a friend's description of Miley's dancing as "looking like Elaine from Seinfeld, only not as good".
I really think she just doesn't want anyone to think of her, even a little bit, as Hannah Montana. That performance was an un-Disney as you can get without stripping and having sex on stage. I can understand not wanting to have to be this perfect, Disney princess that little girls look up to, and having Barbie dolls in your image. She's 20. She wants everyone to know she's a grown up and not into little girl things anymore. Sadly, like most 18-22 year olds, she thinks the only way to appear to be a grown up is to act like a moron. I remember thinking at that age that getting drunk and staying out all night was the way to exert my adulthood. Then I woke up the next morning feeling like death. We all have to learn, and she's doing her learning on the national stage. Frankly, if the choices are make a fool of yourself in a trashy, VMA performance (which is what the VMAs are known for - see Madonna, Maddona and Britney, Britney) wearing a latex bikini and orthopedic nun shoes, or turning into Lindsey Lohan 2.0, I'd rather see her making a fool of herself on stage. At least acting like white trash on national television won't kill you. Pulling a Lohan most likely will. While I hope my daughter has the good sense God gave a rock to do neither of the above, I'd worry less if she danced like an unsexy idiot than I would if she was a coke-head. I'd die a thousand deaths if I saw my baby girl acting like that on a stage, but I feel that way about a lot of things I see now that I'm older.

The man credited with inventing the foam finger -- like the one Miley Cyrus brought to the forefront of national attention at Sunday's MTV Video Music Awards -- is not her No. 1 fan.
Iowa native Steve Chmelar, who created the foam finger prototype in 1971 (which Geral Fauss would later go on to mass produce in 1978), said he didn't like his invention's newfound infamy.
"She took an honorable icon that is seen in sporting venues everywhere and degraded it," Chmelar told FOX Sports. "Fortunately, the foam finger has been around long enough that it will survive this incident."
