Bump. Would like to see as many of you as possible for this event. FYI, the cheerleaders/mascots are not part of the athletic dept. They are under the intramural dept and don't get the funding they deserve.

Seriously? I had no idea.
Back when I was a cheerleader we had to fund our own uniforms. One year we were allowed to wear the soccer team's warm up sweats. We sold tickets for raffles to fund travel and other things. Often we pooled our own money to make it work.
To still have this under the intramural department is wrong, IMO. They represent the school at numerous events. Unfortunately, I can't make this event, but hope there's a great turnout.

It boggles my mind that the cheerleading squad and mascots are not budgeted under the athletic department? How much can that line item possibly be? I can't make the event, but am sending a show of support. If you're inclined, I'm pm the address if you'd like to do the same.

I would like to thank everyone who either participated or donated to the outing. We were able to raise $2000 for the cheerleaders. We had 15 foursomes this year and would like that to double. Hope to see everyone there next year.

Total cheerleader thread fail, not one photo of our cheerleaders in any post. Just that one small photo of chicks that are almost recognizable.

Oh god, she is even worse than when I attended the college. I dated a cheerleader and believe me it was no feat to bag that chick.

That's the way it is at a lot of places. The band, dance team and cheerleaders are often under the umbrella of student activities and outside the athletic department. Not everywhere, of course, but at a lot of places. Perhaps even most places.

You want 15 eightsomes? That would be a slow outing.

I thought schools with football often made those scholarship sports for title IX.

Haven't you heard?? Cheerleading isn't a sport.....
http://msn.foxsports.com/other/story/connecticut-judge-rules-competitive-cheerleading-is-not-a-title-ix-sport-030613
Counting cheerleading as a sport is an interesting idea. It's actually far less absurd than many things that you're allowed to do, like counting cross country, indoor track, and outdoor track as three seperate women's sports, and putting all the runners on all three teams. You can essentially count one athlete three times. Or, one of my favorites, sand volleyball, which is an emerging sport, which you're allowed to use. It's just the volleyball team playing on sand, but it's technically a separate team and you can double count them.
I don't know why you wouldn't be allowed to count cheer and dance toward Title IX if you wanted to. It's not an NCAA sport, and there are no limits to the number of scholarships (at least not that I know of) that can be given out, so I get why the NCAA wouldn't like it because they want actual women's sports, but I don't see why the federal government would care. They let schools do all kinds of other nonsense to get around it. Why not let them count cheerleading?? But....they don't.
