Should be a great weekend of golf. The media is hyping Tiger v. Phil. Maybe it will happen.....if so, great, it would be awesome to watch. But I think it's unlikely. Here are some guys i like this weekend.
Bradley 32/1
Mahan 35/1
Dufner 40/1
Day 45/1
Z. Johnson 50/1
Furyk 65/1
What says all of you?

Course heavily favors left to right players (eg Trevino & Jack both won majors there); look for Matt Kuchar & Poulter even perhaps Phil. Dufner, Zack, Dustin, Mahan all hit hard hooks so will need to putt extremely well to contend.
While it will be great to see Kokrak play well in his first professional major (he was still amateur when he played in US Open) making the cut is a good week and Top 20 would be a special week. His percentage of driving in fairway needs to climb from about 50% to around 65%.

Couldn't agree more. I'll be rooting hard for Kokrak, but that power fade he plays is going to have to be incredibly accurate this week for him to be up there. Nigel mentioned how the media (as always) is pulling for the Phil/Tiger thing. I know it's the cliche and all, but I think both will be right there. Not sure what the odds are, but I'd put a little on top 10s for both of them. I love Kuchar's chances too. He's quietly been about as great as anyone not named Tiger this year and I think the course suits him pretty well.
Not a promising start for Jay. +3 through 6. He's going to have to really dig deep to stop this thing from getting away early.

Nigel, your Furyk bet is still looking good on Sunday morning.
It is. Nice to have picked 1st and 2nd going into the final round. While Furyk pays out much better, I'm having a hard time not rooting for Dufner. The dude just cracks me up. Minus the double on the 5th yesterday, I thought he played quite well under the circumstances of playing in tough conditions after firing a 63.
My brother in law did a PGA draft with his buddies Wednesday night. I was at his house and helped him pick his 6 golfers. He took Tiger with the No. 1 pick. When it got back around to him, I suggested Bradley and Stenson with the next two picks. The next round I suggested Mahan and Dufner. With his last pick, I told him he should take Furyk. He is killing the competition with 1st, 2nd and 3rd going into the final round. Wonder if he's going to give me a cut of his winnings...
Today should be great. I strongly disagree with those who believe the only way a tourney is entertaining is if Tiger or Phil are in contention. I'm off to mow the yard, workout, etc. so I can plop down on the couch around 3:30 and enjoy golf. Did anyone see Adam Scott's tee shot on 14 yesterday? If so, that's basically what my golf swing looks like....
Nigel Tufnel
08-11-2013, 06:29 PM
Well, that was awesome. Dufner's short irons were near flawless. His long irons and hybrids weren't far behind. That was impressive. Happy for him....his wife ain't ugly either.
And the $400 doesn't hurt either.

If the Valhalla owners and the mayor have any sense, they will get the charges dropped quickly and quietly.
It’s nothing about being “above the law.” If you are in a player Courtney vehicle and you have a morning tee time, there are exceptions to a rule. If you miss your tee time, you are dq’d. What facts are you looking for? It makes the police department and the city look stupid, again. The city refuses to get out of its own way.

Are you serious? You think you get to drive into the median and around a fatal accident scene because you're a fucking golfer? That a courtesy car gives you carte blanche to roll on for 10 or 20 yards when a police officer is literally holding on for dear life attached to your car?
He had time to get arrested, taken downtown, booked and bailed out, and he's still going to make his tee time. He had some time. He wasn't in danger of missing anything.

Scottie was cuffed, arrested, booked, released, and arrived back to Valhalla a little after 9 am.
His tee time is 10:08 am. From jail to tee box in less than 2 hours.
That is efficient!

Cops were completely out of line. Yeah if you are in a player courtesy vehicle, you should get special treatment. They do normally, why not in this case? He was following other people.
The stupid cop decided on his own to jump on his car like commando. Thoughts and prayers to the moron with a couple of scrapes and bruises.
On espn other players said they did the exact same thing that Scottie did, and when the cops saw the markings on the car, they let them through without even having to roll their windows down.

One of the owners of Valhalla whose family I know well, called the mayor's office first, then the police station and let's just say things escalated very quickly. He went and picked up Scottie personally and drove him to the course.

“In the early hours of the morning in advance of his tee time Scottie was going to the course to begin his pre round preparation. Due to the combination of event traffic and a traffic fatality in the area it was a very chaotic situation He was proceeding as directed by another traffic officer and driving a marked player’s vehicle with credentials visible. In the confusion,Scottie is alleged to have disregarded a different officer’s traffic signals resulting in these charges. Multiple eyewitnesses have confirmed that he did not do anything wrong but was simply proceeding as directed. He stopped immediately upon being directed to and never at any point assaulted any officer with his vehicle. We will litigate this matter as needed and he will be completely exonerated. “

A rich white guy was given an expedited release from jail because he had to get to the country club and play golf. I know I probably shouldn't be laughing at that, but...
I wasn't there. I don't know how it was handled, nor do I know how it should have been handled. I do know when teams are traveling to an arena or stadium they frequently receive some sort of police escort, especially if there is going to be traffic. I can understand how the police would not immediately recognize him because I don't watch golf at all and had never heard of him before today. I can also understand him thinking he was good to go around the traffic because...well...at least that's what a team bus would typically do, and if someone is used to being able to do that, then I can see why they'd think it was okay in this sense.
There is someone I do feel sorry for. Those who are impacted by the fatality that caused the confusion in the first place.

Yeah his lawyer.
Eyewitnesses said that police officers were instructing player courtesy vehicles to go thru. This rogue idiot, decided he was going to go against the other cops own directions and try to be a hero. Witnesses said the cop told him to stop, he didnt as he was at the entrance, so the cop jumps on the car. He then pounds on the glass of the car with his flashlight ( Scottie was already thru the gate) and tells him to get out of the car. Scottie rolls the window down, the cop opens rhe door, pulls Scottie out of the vehicle, shoves him up against the car and arrests him. Maybe a little common sense from the cop would have gone a long way here.
Even maybe More than this cop, I blame a lot of the city of Louisville here. The traffic situation was an effing disaster this week (went yesterday) and was a logistical cluster. They had years to get it right, and they did a horrible horrible job.
I’ll also just add I personally trust zero cops. I do what I’m told by police because shit they have guns and I know their job is tough, but I have personally seen too many incidents where cops escalated things where there was zero reason for it.

Cops should not reach into a suspect's car or latch onto it, especially if it's a golfer.
Even if he drove around the barricades and started heading toward the accident scene, it isn't worth the risk.
This was a confused golfer not some violent criminal plowing through a crowd.

Per a tweet, the local news requested it already and got back an automated response that it will take months to process the request. it will certainly be a big test as to just how much money matters. Reportedly, it's the biggest buildout of a PGA champinship ever, and they have broken ticket sales records.
I like Valhalla, from an everyday play perspective. it's very nice and it's been fun the couple of times i have gotten to play it, but imo it's not a championship course for today's pro golfer. Too wide of fairways, greens are meh, and there aren't a lot of Wow holes. 6 is cool, and 13 with the island green is neat, but frankly it's just too easy for these guys.

Quick anecdote, back in my nighttime mountain biking days I finished up a late night right on the big mountain near my home. I live just 2 miles from the trailhead. When riding back around 10pm, I hit the top of a hill where a cop has it blocked with his car. I politely stop and ask if I am good to ride the road down the hill. He gives me the go-ahead. I get about 2/3s down, round a blind corner, and get stopped by 3 guys at the bottom. They make me detour off the road, through a wash and around the scene.
Almost feels like the same case, but I didn't get arrested. The cops watching the scene merely said the guy up top was wrong to let me through. Cops get it wrong all the time.
