Several thoughts on this.
For starters, I think the Mountain West always seems to be one step ahead of their peers. If anything, they are closer to being a BCS/Major conference than they are being a mid-major conference. I thought they were done with conference realignment, but they're not. They're not as good as they would be had they retained BYU and Utah, but they did very well in basketball and with Boise State, they are a viable football conference as well. I'd argue that they've actually outperformed many of the major conferences, especially in basketball.
This is where I think college sports media is going. The majority of it will be online, with a selection of games being picked up for national TV broadcasts. I've wanted a certain conference to do this for a long time, and they haven't. The Mountain West is doing it. They are the first ones to do it to this extent. A network where every school has their own channel, and one main conference channel. It will be available online, and they leave the door open to sell programming to cable/satellite providers. For those of you with DirecTV, the door is open for this to appear on the RSNA channels.
The MWC has, again, pioneered something that will be great for their league. Now why can't other leagues do that?? (and I'm not necessarily talking about the Big East).
