Marvin Bagley III, a 6-foot-8 forward that hails from Phoenix, just picked up a scholarship offer from Arizona State, according to reports (https://twitter.com/SpencerPulliam/status/341647086443458560). It’s the second scholarship offer that Bagley has, as another in-state program, Northern Arizona, reportedly offered him as well (http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/highschool-prep-rally/seventh-grade-hoops-star-marvin-bagley-iii-already-150533615.html).
Let’s sidestep the whole ‘Are those really scholarship offers? (http://insider.espn.go.com/blog/ncbrecruiting/national/post/_/id/6661/what-does-a-scholarship-offer-mean)‘ issue for a second and instead focus on the fact that Bagley still has a year left in middle school.
Yup.
(UPDATE: It’s worth noting here that Bagley is the grandson of Joe Caldwell, an Arizona State legend (http://www.thesundevils.com/genrel/caldwell_joe00.html) that has his jersey hanging in the Wells Fargo Arena rafters (http://www.azcentral.com/sports/asu/articles/2010/11/19/20101119asu-basketball-joe-caldwell-home-opener.html?nclick_check=1).)
______________
Personally I would forbid scholarship offers until after the first year of HS is complete. But I suppose then there would just be an increase in the seedy under belly of "runner" and show reps.
