We're at the point in college athletics that the school has a press release to refinish their court. It's good. it looks nice.

But this?

"As fans are watching our games in Alumni Arena, we want the message to serve as a reminder that UB is not just a great institution in the city of Buffalo, but it also ranks as the largest and most comprehensive public university in the state and the only Division I FBS program in the SUNY system. With an alumni base that reaches across New York, we felt it was time to capitalize on our status in the Empire State, similar to our peer AAU institutions that compete at the FBS level across the country.”

yeah, thats what I was thinking....

WTF

Before now I've never contemplated the FBS status of any member of the SUNY system. Cocktail trivia list updated!

As someone who grew up about 45 minutes from that campus, I find it absurd that NEW YORK is in huge letters and Buffalo is snuck in beneath it. Rename it New York State or the University of New York -- or at least re-market the school in that way -- if you want to act like it's the flagship state school (it sort of is, in an awkward way), but absent that I think it will be offensive to most students and alumni, all of whom think of it as either the "University of Buffalo" or "UB".
