Well, that didn't brighten my day.
First...that New Jersey guy really doesn't like the Big East anymore, and seems to have a big hang up with college presidents.
Second...I get to read about how great a referee Cahill is. Really? The guy who makes what may go down in basketball lore as one of the worst calls ever?

Not sure I want anyone who spent that much time associated with the dumpster fire that is the WNBA. Then again, you can't really blame her for the league's struggles. It's just not a very compelling product.

The fact that the WNBA still exists may prove that she's a miracle worker.

Seems like a great business model. No CEO. no staff, no salaries, no rent. Long term deal for the Garden where every kid who ever picked up a basketball wants to play, plus you get a little seed money of $500 million over 12 years.
Maybe they can get another few million a yr. from Nike.

He's Aresco's talking head. For someone who has the sources and looks to want to be in journalism, he comes off incredibly immature.

I'm sorry I clicked that link. I don't really give a damn about the commissioner. I'm here to follow the sports, mens bball primarily. Unless the commish is hot and appearing in an underground porn video, I do not give a sh!t.

ESPN has got to be loving this, seeing as they now have an agenda of belittling the Big East since that Fox Sports 1 deal was inked.
Then again, didn't we think they had a commish hiding in the wings just waiting for the split? Perhaps, not.
One way or another, - the conference needs a strong start on July 1. If not then, it at least has to have its act together to conduct its first athletic contest in August is it?

While I have no doubt that ESPN is enjoying a good laugh about all of this, it will be short-lived. And regardless, I don't think there's a thing in that article that hasn't been uttered on this board. The fact that they are relishing in it doesn't mean it's not true.

Someone has got to make the schedules. Someone has got to hire the officials. Someone has got to oversee compliance. Someone has got to coordinate and sign off on the championships/tournaments. How will ticket allotments work?? What are the dates?? What are the sites?? It would be nice if there was someone in charge of marketing, and someone else in charge of media relations, but I guess that isn't absolutely essential.
When Fox Sports 1 writes the check, who's in charge of handling and distributing that?? Who do the networks negotiate with or communicate with when it comes to picking which games they want to air?? And, I said this earlier, but who's making the game schedule that will determine when the games will be played that the network wants to show??
I'm sure things will work out, but not having a commissioner, and for that matter not having any sort of league office or league staff, is no small problem.

What do they need to apologize about? Telling the truth? Finally hiring her doesn't exactly excuse the delay, and it was absurd. They also posted an article about the hiring, albeit belatedly. I don't expect ESPN to be throwing us too many bones, but I can't really complain about their reporting on this issue.

Delay? How about a careful search? Just because the media was feeling pressure and didn't like it doesn't mean that it was an undue delay. They had Beebee care taking the important things and the fall will have things up and running.
ESPN will take their potshots all summer until Fox Sports 1 gets cranking. Then we'll see the war.

Don't get me wrong -- I'm no ESPN fan. But I can assure you that it was considered an undue delay by many within the conference, and that it was the source of a not insignificant amount of discord. Let's not pretend this was business as usual. Or at least let's hope it was not.

From the article....
She is a Board member of the Knight Commission on Intercollegiate Athletics
We've had our issues with initial eligibility in the past. I don't think the Big East allowed non-qualifiers to play, even if the NCAA gave them a waiver. Since the majority of members from the NBE are from the Old Big East, and since we have someone serving as commissioner who is a Knight Commission Board member, the option of enrolling virtual partial qualifiers as a member of this conference may no longer be an option.

Sort of amazing that Xavier hasn't been in a league with a male commissioner since at least 1995 (can't remember who our last MCC boss was). Given how few female conference commissioners there have been overall, it's wild that we've had three different ones. Hopefully this one is more McGlade than Bruno!

All the weeping and gnashing of teeth about the BE being a circus, where's the commish, yadi, yadi, yadi.
All the BS articles about the presidents and schedules and unhappy AD's.
We get a commish. ESPN doesn't even bother with a story on their men's BB page. Still got the phone call from Katz three days ago.

She said the right things:
"Ackerman said, "I am honored to be given this incredible opportunity to work in partnership with the ten world-class institutions that are marching ahead under the BIG EAST banner. Our mission is simple to continue and enhance the BIG EAST legacy of intense competition, spirited rivalries and unparalleled achievement, not only in college basketball, but in all intercollegiate sports."
"I congratulate the BIG EAST for making such an inspired choice in Val Ackerman," said NBA Commissioner David Stern. "I had the pleasure of working alongside Val for many years, including the period in which she transformed the WNBA from a mere concept into a thriving basketball league. Her experience and intelligence, along with a keen analytic ability, an intense work ethic and a winning management style will help steer the historic BIG EAST Conference to even greater heights."

I really hope it works out this way and that we are successful with 10 programs.
I would always enjoy UD being left behind. I would feel badly about Richmond and St. Louis, but I truly would enjoy sporadic visits to UDPRIDE to witness the misery.
I would not feel bad at all for Richmond and Saint Louis. They haven't earned it.

I went to UD Pride as soon as I read the happy at 10 comment. They are clinging to some bizzaro world theory that the new Commish may have met a former UD women's hoops player at some point and that maybe that will get them in.
It's quite sad and pathetic really.

agreed.
With Xavier, it's been more than an occasional occurrence. There are several who were contributing players that we would not have had if that had been the policy in the Atlantic Ten. We may want to step up the monitoring of initial eligibility, especially now that the rules are changing.

Hot or not? F-able?
I wouldn't put her in either the "hot" or "not" category. She is a nice looking woman, but won't stop traffic with her good looks either. She isn't dog ugly, and I am sure I would hit on her.
Given her background, there is a possibility she isn't playing on the same team. She could be into women.
But she is definitely F-able....I have done worse.
