Anybody read about this? It isn't much of a story....but my thoughts? Its pretty pathetic...she's pretty hot....obviously crazy. But the video of Michael Shannon reading her email is hilarious.

They are usually always a little tunnel vision and backwards in the way they view the world it's Greek Greek Greek Greek and they don't have much reality when they enter the real world.

Yeah, from my time in Morgantown after college, I definitely heard stories similar to this, so it doesn't surprise me. Also, I don't know how one could find this crazy verbal abuse unbelievable when sometimes people have actually died during hazing. Greek life can be so screwed-up.

I won't provide a link for this because it's very very NSFW but Michael Shannon, of Boardwalk Empire, did a reading of the email for FunnyorDie.com and it is freaking awesome. His deadpan delivery of the email was great. I was playing golf on monday and we got stuck behind a slow group so we watched it and they couldn't figure out what was going on because we were laughing so much. Its a must watch, on your own time thought.

In all honesty though, I could express many positives and negatives to being in a Fraternity (for another thread). Each school and each house is different, so don't let one story like this (or many others) dissuade you from allowing or encouraging your children to explore the options. Greek life isn't for everyone. Greek life at MANY schools would not have been for me, but I found a house that I loved at a school with a much healthier Greek atmosphere. Finding the right Greek house in the right atmosphere can be a great thing.

I'm quite glad we dot have Greek Life at Xavier. Working off of UK's campus, it's just a joke and pretty shitty people run those things. Xavier has shitty people too, but ours are way classier.

I was in Entrepreneur Club at Xavier; we created a shirt that said something like "Xavier Greek Life: Why Buy Your Friends?"

We found it pretty funny and they were selling like crazy. Then someone complained to the College of Business faculty and we were scorned by the faculty and told to stop selling them immediately. From then on we had to approve everything we did with faculty before moving forward on it. (very entrepreneurial right?) Apparently there is (or was at least) two groups called something like the Black Students Society and the Business Students Society/Fraternity, or something like that, and one or both of them were offended. No idea if they were actual fraternities (I thought frats weren't allowed at XU) or just clubs that I guess acted as if they were at times.

Two years later one of the guys in charge of the Club still had leftover shirts in his trunk and would ask me if I want more every time he saw me. I found it humorous.

Xavier had a chapter of the business fraternity. Delta Sigma Pi. I went to an event or two and decided I had better ways to spend my time. I think they were allowed because it was a professional fraternity (and not exactly a fraternity because women and men were a part of it) as opposed to a social fraternity.

Xavier does not sanction social societies. There are, however, a number of academic, professional, and cultural fraternities and sororities. Obviously that's an entirely different species.

In some ways, Xavier students pointing to a batshit crazy sorrority girl and saying "I'm glad Xavier doesn't have sorrorities" is like someone who has never left Iowa saying sunburns are the reason they are glad they don't live on the beach, or me pointing at Calapari's vacated Final Fours and saying "I'm glad we don't have that level of basketball success."

There are plenty of references on this board about how certain houses are great party houses, they are just referred to by their street number instead of by greek letters.

I was in a fraternity in college. You pretty much had to if you wanted to drink because the school was in a dry county, so the fraternities were more of a place to hang out and drink with your friends. It was kind of embarrassing when we would occasionally venture off campus to some of the larger schools and visit our chapter there. If I had gone to a larger school I most likely would not have joined a fraternity.

And bally is right - that email is not atypical of your sorority girl in charge. The ones who were presidents and the social director types were nuts.

People can obviously vote with their feet on this issue. If they must have Greek, there are lots of other schools out there for them.
