Now here's a guy I hope that X is looking at.

6:4 swing guard who averaged 15 ppg for Marshall. He''s transferring and eligible immediately as a 5th year guy.

Might be a very good addition at the 3.

I bet you drive slow in the driveway. Just make sure you're back in time for Wapner.

I've seen your car. Not sure about your driving abilities.

Eh, he's a helluva player but is known to have a slight attitude around campus, and with coaching, etc. I know this because I have a lot of friends that go to Marshall, as long as he isn't a cancer in the locker room, I'm fine with him joining up.

7 assists a game, wow. It's kinda odd that as a guard he shot really poorly from 3 and FT, and has been worse each yr.

3pt - 31.8%, 25.0%, 24.8%
FTs - 63.3%, 59.9%, 52.1%

But the 15 pts and 7 ast per game sure look nice.

Can't hit FTs, can't shoot the 3, needs the ball in his hand to score. Pass. We have the better version of that in Semaj Christon, who will probably get better year over year, not worse.

Not automatically ruling this a pass, because X needs a player of his size on the wing. However, I think this team's most glaring need is a wing that can consistently shoot the three. I'm not sure Kane meets that need.

Jeez, just what we need........a wing who can't shoot, was sent packing by his coach, booed at home by his own fans, and has some knowledgeable folks saying his departure was addition by subtraction.

A few years ago we took a transfer from an undersized forward with limited athleticism and no range outside of 5 feet. His coach also wanted him gone. I think he worked out just fine. If the coaches want him, I'm in..

Who would this be? Taylor?

I don't know that he worked out "just fine"...he stood out because he was on a very mediocre squad. He was decent, but I'd take Jason Love or Jamel McLean any day of the week and twice on Sunday. And I wouldn't sy he has range within 5 feet either...his post moves weren't very good; in fact, there were more than a couple occassions where he airballed layups.

Correct...CJ had all kind of limitations and he was ushered off his team.

I don't know how you can come up with Travis Taylor when the words undersized and limited athleticism are used. He has plenty of size for a forward and plenty of bounce as well.

Not to go off topic, but Travis Taylor was far from 'decent' this season. I would say he was damn good. You don't lead a 5 bid league in rebounding if you're just decent.

Let's put it this way...Travis Taylor is one of the most athletic unathletic basketball players I've ever seen. Yes, he had a knack for rebounding...but had ZERO comfort and rhythm in the post, hands of steel, and led the league in bricks under 5 feet. He was athletic in the sense that he could jump high....but his basketballs skills and IQ left MUCH to be desired.

Wrong, Lyons can shoot, and I don't ever remember Lyons being booed at Cintas.

Are you serious? Is this the 2012 offseason and not the 2013 offseason? Who on this board would not want another year of Taylor? Heck Mack even said that himself...

He seemed very comfortable in the post and could get into a rhythm (minus the butler game) if he was fed the ball yet he was under utilized the majority of the year...

He also had developed a bit of a step back jumped but never seemed to flash it much. He was very undersized at the 5 and I think his BBall IQ skyrocketed from what it looked like last year.

If this kid could do half of what Taylor did for this team I'd take him. High motor and warrior through and through Taylor was by far my favorite player of this year, even if Semaj was more fun to watch.

I think your memory is failing you!

Check McLean's and Taylor's senior season stats. They are almost identical, although Trav DID have a little higher points and rebounding averages. Jamel shot FT's at a 2% higher clip.

I actually think Taylor received more defensive attention in the post than McLean ever did, and Travis did show off a nice 15-17 foot jump shot a handful of times this past season.

How many people on this board would take Travis Taylor over Jamel McClean? I'm guessing 3 people...all all three of them would be wrong.

It's not even a comparison. Don't even give me stats...theybplayednon completely different teams.

And McLean's team was one that could have used another consistent offensive option besides Tu, but McLean didn't deliver that. Taylor would have, as proven by his performance this year. Now, McLean's defense was definitely better than Taylor's. Still, one player is not easily better than the other.

Well, maybe not Mr. Kane.

From Andy Katz:

"3. Marshall coach Tom Herrion cut loose DeAndre Kane because he was tired of his act. Herrion was clear in a statement that this was his call when he was quoted in the MetroNews of West Virginia: “After meeting with DeAndre, I have decided it is in our program’s and his best interest that he seek opportunities elsewhere. We appreciate his contributions to our team and wish him the best in his future.” There was no need to be anything but transparent here if Herrion didn't want him in the program anymore. Herrion said "it was time to move on" for Kane. Marshall was a major disappointment last season. The Herd, who were supposed to challenge Memphis for the Conference USA title, finished a disastrous 13-19, 6-10 in the league. Kane, who saw all his key production stats drop, can play immediately elsewhere if he were to graduate and then seek a master's not available at Marshall."

I don't love the idea of this kid at X, but we could use some experienced bodies at the 2/3.
