Admittedly Creighton Centric. Perhaps the Enquirer will get around to one of these articles when they stop fawning over U.C.

Dayton fans refer to this as collusion.

Does this article talk about the "Jesuit Mafia" that I've been hearing about from dayton fans? In other words, does this article talk about a relationship between any two schools who happen to be run by the Jesuits? If so, then the answer is yes, it does refer to the Jesuit Mafia.

Yes, that is the Dayton conspiracy theory of the day. Soemone on UD Pride put together this chart of the Catholic orders each school is affiliated with:

C7
Archdiocese of Newark, NJ: Seton Hall
Augustinian: Villanova
Dominican: Providence
Jesuit: Georgetown, Marquette
Vincentian: DePaul, St.John's

NBE3
Jesuit: Creighton, Xavier
N/A: Butler

Conspiracy theory is that adding Creighton and us means the new league will have 4 Jesuit schools, which can therefore have a voting bloc when 2/3 or 3/4 votes are needed to pass. Theory goes on to say that we are looking to add more Jesuit schools. Thus they think SLU is a lock just based on that. They totally lost touch with reality when they mentioned Fordhman, yes that Fordham, as a serious contender based on being Jesuit with a strong academic background. Though it WOULD be funny if they were told "We'd rather have Fordham than you!"

Also says Butler was invited just so they could shed the whole Catholic 7 image, and that they aren't really a full member - nevermind their sucess on the basketball court.

The Omaha article the OP refered to has a direct quote that has become the battle cry of the Flyer Fans - where the Marquette president said something like "Of course we support Creighton - we'd always support another Jesuit school" - noting it didn't say "another Catholic school"

Go Muskies, and Go Jesuits!

If anyone is registered on udpride, please ask kyflyer to prepare a chart showing when Butler and Creighton passed ud as a program. Thanks.

I love it. Last year we were gangstas and this year we're old school mafia gangsters. I had no idea we were so well affiliated. Do we now refer to the presidents of the Jesuit universities as Don Graham, etc.?

Butler passed UD when Barry Collier became their head coach.

Creighton passed UD when Fr. Lannon became their president.

'Nuff said.

Incorrect. In order to pass a program, one must first be behind the other program. This did not occur.

St Vivian passed UD when they won the CYO Championship.

Wouldn't Duquesne be a natural add (for the Pittsburgh market as opposed to Richmond or somebody else in the east) if they didn't play so poorly?
Does Villanova regard them like a Dayton, even though they are 300 miles away?

I'm probably overlooking some basic factor, but they never enter into the discussions.

Pittsburg is the largest market in the mid-Atlantic/Northeast without a BE team (assuming Providence covers Boston).

I think its basically because like Fordham - they suck. They had a few decent years in there, but overall they suck. They continue to suck and no one wants their suckiness in this league.

I have spent a good deal of time in Pittsburgh for my job the last few years:
A. Virtually no one in Pittsburgh cares about basketball...it's all Steelers & Penguins
B. Anyone who does care about basketball could care less about Duquesne.
C. So the answer is NO, forget Duquesne.

Given that they suck, it's kind of irrelevant.

Also, I don't think they really want to follow the A-10 model, which was to get the "second-tier" schools in all of the Big East markets.

BTW, Pittsburg is actually a tiny city in eastern Kansas. I'll be there next weekend for a gymnastics meet. Woo hoo!

I see the Bourbon bars open early in the Greenville/Spartanburg area...

OK, I admit it. I was in some sort of fog when I posted that.

But just for the record, the Spartanburg/Greenville market is only 2 spots behind Cincinnati in the Neilsen market size, and 26 places ABOVE the Criers.
So maybe the BE should consider Wofford. It's small, private, good institutional fit. And their gym seats 30 more people than Rose Hill.

Now, where did I put that bottle....

So it holds twice as many as Rose Hill.
