Going to Vegas tomorrow for the tourney this weekend! 3rd time in Vegas, 2nd time as an "adult" and first time for the NCAA tournament. Been wanting to do this for a long long time. Meeting up with 3 good college buddies who all live in different states so its been a while.
Anyone going this year?
Anyone been before and have a sports book I absolutely check out?
I am staying at Harrahs and on Thursday will probably stay at that sports book, at least for the majority of the day, because two of the guys are coming Thursday.
Cant wait! Appreciate any opinions.

I'll be there for the weekend (6am thursday flight out of Stl). Staying downtown rather than the strip. I plan on hanging around the books downtown most of the weekend with the required trip to in and out burger at some point.

I was there last weekend. Sorry, I drank all the booze. None left.
Ditch the Harrah's sports book if at all possible. It's awful Walk across the street to Caesars or next door to the Venetian. Even Bally's has a pretty decent book. Just not Harrah's.
I did stay at Harrah's last weekend. Obviously nothing fancy, but it gets the job done when it's just a bunch of guys.

Definitely going to check out some others and will check out the places you mentioned. Thanks for the info.

The biggest problem is that it's way really small. Not that big a deal most times of year, but it will be a problem this weekend. If you are waiting for buddies to show up, I would just go down to the Venetian. It's a short walk, a much better setup and has MUCH better TVs. If your buddies call when they show up at Harrah's, you can be back there (or they can be over at Venetian) in five minutes. If you're a beer guy, Public House at the Venetian is a fine place to sit at the bar and watch basketball after you make your bets as well.

I went 2 years ago and had a blast. Check out Treasure Island. They open up this MASSIVE conference room and project all the different games across about 7-8 20x10 foot screens set up all around the perimeter of this room. There are pros and cons.
Basically all dudes. Satellite sportsbook set up just outside the room. Cheap "mini-buffet" that you can chow. Buckets of 5 Bud Lights for like $15.
Kind of a "rough crowd" seems like alot of dudes that drove in from Arizona or LA vs. the general toruists that hang out at the nicer places.
Have fun. Check out the bank that plays at Dicks Last resort in the Excaliber.

Harrah's is a dump in Vegas, and the sports book sucks. My least favorite parts about the place are the smoking is allowed policy, and the fact the place is filled with 80 year old people playing penny slots. It's cheap, so I understand why people stay there, but I hate that friggin place.
The sports book at the Venetian is great as someone said earlier. I also like the sports book at the Palazzo, which is right next to the Venetian. I was there for the NCAA tourney one year and it was awesome. It isn't that big, but they have stadium style seating and is set up great. Caesar's has one of the best sports books, so I also recommend going there if you can.

I'm partial to the Mirage sports book. There may be newer/better books out there to watch games, but I don't know. Because I always go to the Mirage for major sporting events.
I personally love LaGasse's Stadium in the Palazzo, but that is mainly because you can get everything you need there to make it an all day event. Please keep in mind you will need to make reservations. You can forget about just showing up.

3 weeks in Vegas would be too long for me. lol
Damn! My wife will be there all week for work, but I passed on the trip. Last time we stayed at the Aria, which is very nice. When the decision to pass on this trip was made I didn't realize it was Tourney Time! I'll just be getting back from Nashville (which I love!) and I made the poor decision to hang at the house with the dog.

You passed on a trip to Vegas?!? You may have to go on my ignore list, because I have lost all respect for you.

82, don't be too hard on yourself. A week in Vegas would be exhausting. I'd have opted for a week of basketball at home with the dogs (we have 2) as well. (Although like you, I obviously would miss my wife...)

There are extenuating circumstances, but I wouldn't blame you. I might add me to my own ignore list. I feel deep shame.....

There are extenuating circumstances
Unless the circumstances are that a drop of alcohol would kill you and you just had lap surgery so that Vegas's finest are out of the question, then I just don't understand.

Truth be told, at least part of the reason is the damn blood sucking lawyers! We've spent somewhere between a new car and a small house in the last couple months on something that should be quite simple, but not when lawyers get involved!

I went Wednesday night to Sunday night last year it was too much. I had the flu when I came back. I am doing Wed night to Sat night this time.
Edit: I mean last time. (3 years ago)

That sounds like a good stay. There is such a thing as too much of a good thing.

You need to learn how to pace yourself man.
Reno is driving distance for me, so I used to just go there. Good times.

Chico and I had a wonderful evening dancing on Couches in a Vegas Sportsbook after Tu Holloway schooled that little institution from South Bend with a high off the glass "kiss" in 2012.

I ordered my green Xavier Musketeers t-shirt from the Xavier bookstore last night. St. Paddy's day is the first day of the 1st round! Double the fun!

Shit, I just connected the Big East Tournament thread with this one. Yeah, if you're going to Vegas for four days for the NCAA Tournament, you should get your ass to that baby class during the BET and smile and pretend to be really happy to be there the whole damned time!

Yes we did! Monte Carlo sportsbook - not the largest one but who cares when they're giving away free jello shots.
I've probably been out there 15 times for March Madness. It's been a few years (kids' swimming - don't ask) but as others have said the Venetian was one of the best. Some casinos would set up separate rooms for the tournament - I remember the Aladdin (which is now Planet Hollywood) doing it a couple times, as well as the Imperial Palace - nothing wrong with slumming it at the IP when you're 27 and they let you bring your own coolers in.
You probably know this but if you want a seat at any of the real nice books - and replanting on making day of it at jus that book - get there early. Like 5:30 early. Thursday isn't so bad but everyone from LA comes out Thursday night and Friday gets pretty crowded.
And speaking of the Venetian, best steak I've ever had was the bone-in ribeye at Delmonico's - though the 10 Maker's may have had something to do with it.

That entire night was the epitome of awesomeness. From the time all the DOOOOOOOK honks got their financial asses handed to them, as well as their NCAA Tournament hopes by Lehigh (with all the shocked groans to accompany it), to the Xavier win, to literally floating back on a cloud as I made my way back down to the Flamingo with my X gear on and all kinds of people yelling "Go Xavier" at me. Chico and his crew were pretty damn good too.
I could have a "Groundhog Day" with that one every day.

I saw Xavier at 20/1 at Westgate. I'll definitely putting money down on that.

Pretty sure I've never quoted myself! With my 2 year old grandson in Nashville. He's worth every damn penny!
