I actually like this tournament. It's run by College Basketball Insiders, and is geared toward the lower conferences. It's at 32 teams for the first time this year. Here's the field so far....

Chicago State, Boston University, Bradley, Canisius, East Carolina, Elon, Fairfield, Gardner-Webb, Green Bay, Hartford, Illinois-Chicago, Kent State, Loyola, Oakland, Oral Roberts, Rider, Savannah State, South Alabama, Tennessee State, Texas-Arlington, Tulane, UC-Irvine, Youngstown State.

They need nine more.

Chicago State won the Great West Tournament. It was the final year for the conference, and it never met the criteria for being an automatic qualifier to the NCAA Tournament. I believe this is Chicago State's first postseason tournament of any kind.

Boston U didn't get to play in the America East Tournament because they're leaving for the Patriot League. They did finish third in the league, which was ahead of Albany, who won the automatic bid.

Canisius, as some of you may recall, actually beat Temple this year.

Gardner Webb looked to be the best team in the Big South, but lost to Liberty in the conference tournament.

Savannah State has done well. They've gone from being the worst team in the nation, to being one of the better teams in the MEAC. Seriously. They were 7-79 in their first four seasons as a div1 program after transitioning up, so they really have improved.

Obviously, this is not the tournament for Xavier. I doubt they'd want to invite an Atlantic Ten team. Truth be told, they invited Conference USA teams, and that league is a little above where they usually look. I do like the concept of this tournament, though. It gives some meaning to the regular season for the lower level conference teams. You can have a good year, and not have it entirely wiped out if you fail to win the conference tournament like Gardner Webb did. I also think it helps these teams heading into the next season. Most people probably don't care. I get that. I do like to watch all levels of div1 basketball, though, and I for one like that this tournament exists.

Don't schools have to pay a certain fee to go to the CBI tourney? And I think it's not just ticket guarantees.

Yes I believe they pay 60k to host a home game

That's what it was a few years ago. It may be more now.

I like the teams that are in the CBI, but I don't like how the event is managed. I just wish the NIT would double in size.

Got my NIT/CBI/CIT brackets filled out! Well, for the CBI, up to the final four (reseeded) and the CIT...well yeah, the first round.

That would be a real bracket challenge. Picking the teams who you think will advance before you even know who they're playing.

No doubt. I'm really looking forward to Lehigh in this tournament; as long as CJ is back, they should roll. That man is a FORCE.

Two games, two final four teams gone...oops.

Weber State wins at Northern Iowa in a close game. They'll face a sort of up and coming East Carolina team, that's moving to the America Twelve next year. The America Twelve shouldn't be allowed to participate in the CIT, so I think Weber should win by default.

Like I said before, this is a fun tournament to watch. Most of these teams are on the receiving end of buy games, then they go to conference play, and if they don't win the conference tournament they're done. At least the CIT gives some meaning to their season. And, it can be a good indicator as to who some potential sleepers could be in the future. If you want to play the RPI game, you need to schedule the right kinds of buy games, and this tournament is a good indicator for that.

East Carolina wins it. Jeff Lebo has done well there. I know it's just the CIT, but you have to consider how truly awful they were before he got there.

The America Twelve is a nice move up for them as well. It's challenging, and will have a few name programs dotting the home schedule, but it isn't completely overwhelming.

Lebo was very good at Tennessee Tech as well. Can't remember if there was a stop between TT and Auburn (Chattanooga maybe?), but he clearly should have been more selective about taking a major conference opportunity.

Yeah, I'm watching Game 2 of the CBI finals. George Mason's gym must be unavailable because they're playing in their volleyball gym.
Looks like we're headed to a decisive Game 3 which would also be a Mason home game.
