I ran track in HS, and did distance running with friends in grad school. The best I ever did in the mile distance (I ran the 400K in HS) was about 5 minutes. In grad school, I was thrilled when I ran one in under 6 minutes. Those times by our players are pretty good. And I also know that there were strong incentives for each player (including walk-ons) to be able to run under 6.

Admittedly I am not an athlete let alone an elite athlete, but 5:15 is a very good time for even an elite athlete. I used to run (before running caused me to have both knees replaced) and I ran a lot of races, mostly 10K races with a few half marathons thrown in. The fastest time I ever ran a mile in was a tick under 7 minutes.
Ya, I like to think of myself as a runner, but am no where near elite. The best I've ever ran a mile was in the low 7's and I was ECSTATIC with that. I had to kill myself to run that mile. Oh to be young. :-)

I know I'm probably more on the athletic side than most people, but I could run a mile throughout HS in the low to mid 5s and there were plenty of other people that could do the same.
Even if you are a distance runner, if you just went ahead and ran 1 mile you would probably be able to significantly improve your time for just a single mile.

There's a BIG difference between running a pace for 6-13 miles and running for 1 mile... Your sub-7 minute miles equate to sub-3:00 marathon. You were a pretty darn good non-elite runner.

Yes there is. 2014 I ran a mile my best mile @ 6:02. First mile of a 5K so if I didn't have to keep going could have squeezed under 6:00. Best half marathon pace was 7:31. Then I hurt my back in October and I've run one sub-7:00 mile since and a 10 mile pace this weekend (longest run since injury) was a shade under 9:00. You lose it a lot quicker than you build up to the ability to run that pace.

So true. In the middle of my second cross country race of my junior year, I strained my calf and was out for some time. That season, I never got back to the pace I was running that day.

To be fair my normal per mile average for a half marathon was about 8 minutes 24 seconds to 8 minutes 55 seconds per mile. I ran 8 Indy 500 Mini-Marathons. My fastest time was 1'51" and my slowest was 1'58". The sub 7 minute miles I did were during my daily 3 mile runs. My normal daily time was about 7 minutes 30 seconds per mile. Not an elite runner but I had fun.

Hate to admit it but I did something similar. Signed my daughter up for a soccer camp in Charleston SC. My cousin who I keep in regular contact with lives in Charleston WV. Her family and mine went on vacation together this past summer. My daughter was going to meet up with my cousin(all planned out) spend a couple of extra days with her and so on. Three days before camp I googled the directions to see how long the drive would take and it kept taking me to the ocean. It finally dawned on me. My head kept thinking WV even when I typed in SC. After shitting my pants, I purchased last minute plane tickets.

I think it may be time for farr to start. The guy has earned it, and I think Jalen needs a little bit of a wakeup call. Not giving up on Jalen by any means but I don't think you should keep starting someone who isn't producing...maybe let Jalen watch the game for a little bit at the beginning..maybe it would help. I don't see the harm in giving it a try.

Just something I've been thinking about because Jalen needs a Jumpstart of some kind. If we are to have a successful season, Jalen is going to need to be a big part of that. I don't think changing one thing in the lineup would be upsetting much. If mack doesn't think it's a good idea, then I'll defer to his knowledge of his team, but could be an option.

What happened to playing and rewarding the guys who are playing the best and producing on the floor? Are you really messing with the chemistry all that much for a guy who cant play more than 2-3 minute stretches at a time b/c he's constantly in foul trouble? Maybe having Jalen come off the bench will be a good thing for him and team? I see no harm at all in mixing things up a little.

See, this is what you get with coaching stability. We've been so accustomed to guys being here then leaving after 6 years and all the recruiting relationships have to start all over again. By having the same guy at the top, continuity just flows, and we are now seeing the kind of talent that can be brought in. Obviously CMack and Travis "Steal" know stars when they see them and their evaluations can be trusted. I know that we've always thought that getting another top notch coach in here would be like falling off a log, but we can thank our lucky stars that we had solid people at the top (Even Dawn Rodgers didn't screw up the Raccoon's hiring) who made the right calls. One bad hire can ruin years of hard work in building.

Jeff Sagarin still lists us as Xavier (Ohio). I find it quaint.
I do remember the days of having to buy a USA Today and go to the sports section.....and see the score of the wrong game. There's a tennis pro near me who went to and wears the gear for the other Xavier. She seems nice so I don't give her grief. (And I wouldn't want her to beat the crap out of me!)

He should have made them run the stairs....or taken away dessert.
Which reminds me of my son going to hoops camp at UNC in Chapel Hill. One year on the drive home after camp my son was complaining that they took the handles off the ice cream machines, he was pissed! His friend replied "well, is was at breakfast."

A) Live 100 miles or more from D'Artagnan's statue.
B) Attend at least one true road game per year more than 100 miles from the D'Artagnan statue.
C) Be a donor to Xavier U.
D) Have a legitimate story to tell about how you went above and beyond the normal fandom for Xavier.
E) Attend the Conferenece Tournament at least 1 year out of 3.
F) Pay your fair share of the Lew Hirt Society ad that appears in the Gameday Program- this year on page 20.
E) Don't "campaign" for membership, but make sure one of the Brothers knows who you are.
F) Whatever other rules the "Committee" decides to impose in their exclusive opinion.
It was a superb meeting this year. AD Greg Christopher attended and addressed the group. Dr. William Daily was given an Honarary Brotherhood, joining Byron Larkin, Joe Sunderman, our great WKRQ, and Andy MacWilliams- who also was in attendance. Famous Poster on this board, and Xavier donor KMCrawfo was also inducted as a full Brother. As one other special guest we were honored to have Former Xavier AD Jeff Fogelson in attendance and thanked him for his role in getting the X Train rolling. As always, fantastic stories were recounted and many frosty beverages were consumed. Thanks to '94 Grad for his always outstanding hospitality!!!

This is absolutely true. One of our Brothers from Minster was inducted on the express condition that he drove around the Minster Town square 4 times to meet the 100 mile trip requirement. He was at 99.6 miles, which the Committee rounded up to the 100 with the condition.

That's a pretty big number, but maybe a little misleading.
I'm pretty sure that's a number from Big Fox, not FS1. (could be wrong, but I can't find the game in "cable" network listings)
For comparison purposes, on Tuesday night:
FS1 8:30-10:30 Xavier v. Providence 177,000
ESPN 7 - 9:30 Indiana v. Wisconsin 1,300,000
ESPN 9:30 - 11:30 Georgia v. LSU 910,000
We're growing, but a long way to go. The more big Fox advertises for FS 1, the better for the BE.

The good news from Tuesday was that Xavier/Providence was actually pretty close to the ESPN2 game (Oklahoma/Texas Tech) and we've consistently been beating ESPNU (aka the AAC channel) this season.
A loooong ways to go to catch ESPN, but FS1 is starting to make headway against ESPN2 (which was definitely not the case in years 1 and 2).

it is, but until all cable/dish providers have Fox sports as a Tier 1 its gonna be hard to generate the kinds of showings that ESPN gets. I just went to a bar two weeks ago and they didn't have it as part of their sports pack. I was shocked.

I do wonder how often this is actually true and how often the bar in question just doesn't know how to find the channel [edit: or they're too lazy to find it]. I've run into some pretty clueless servers/bartenders, even at "sports bars."
For the 2013 season, I didn't have cable and I regularly went to the same sports bar to watch games. It was pre-FS1, but the games were pretty consistently on the same group of channels. Most of the time, the same people took care of me, but about 1 in 4 times, I would get a server who tried to say they didn't have the channel until I got the manager involved. The server was always wrong in those cases, and I don't think this experience is unique to me lol.

My extreme hatred of buffalo wild wings is due to this fact alone. I really wish there was a competing chain that actually had a clue about sports.
I travel for business every week, and I have been able to watch 2 XU games. There still are many cable systems where Fox 1 is not standard.

I don't follow this at all. FS1, which was the old Speed channel, should be part of any package that has ESPN/ESPN2.
It's "expanded" basic cable. I think this is very common.
I've got it, even though the "expanded" package does not carry ESPNU, or NFL Network, or some others.
Any bar that has a package that has ESPN/ESPN2 probably has it, but is too lazy to find it. It's in 90 million places.

Any bar that has a package that has ESPN/ESPN2 probably has it, but is too lazy to find it. It's in 90 million places.
Yeah, I was surprised when I got my cable package that it was just included, no sports package required. I recently dropped down to where I only get like 20 channels or something though, and now I don't have FS1, but I also don't have any of the ESPN family of channels. So if you get more than 20 channels, you should have FS1.

No, I invited you for 3 reasons:
A) You need to get out of the house.

If the retweet button is grayed out it means their account is private and their tweets cannot be retweeted. Your only real option in that case is to copy and paste and throw a "RT." In front of it. If you're on a phone and want to forward a tweet of someone who isn't private you can click the retweet button, then quote tweet, then write what you want. It will show a shot of the original tweet and your comments above.

Well, you can only retweet someone else's tweet. If you want to forward your own to another person, you just need to tag them. Maybe you can do this by editing the tweet, but otherwise, I'd just tag them in a reply (e.g. @XavierNation). Like an email address, a Twitter handle tag has to be precisely correct.
