Oh-Ha-Ho State beat #8 Oregon in the 2009 Rose Bowl, but hasn't beaten a Top 10 team since then. Not exactly impressive.

Frauds.

Ohio State in the BCS era:

Appearances School W L Pct
9* Ohio State 6* 3 .667

Games
Won 1999 Sugar Bowl
Won 2003 Fiesta Bowl
Won 2004 Fiesta Bowl
Won 2006 Fiesta Bowl
Lost 2007 BCS National Championship Game
Lost 2008 BCS National Championship Game
Lost 2009 Fiesta Bowl
Won 2010 Rose Bowl
Won 2011 Sugar Bowl (Vacated)

The 9 appearances are the most by any team. The 2011 win was against an SEC team; vacated or not they beat them on the field.

UL has only been to two BCS bowls: Wake Forest in the 2007 Orange Bowl and Florida in the 2013 Sugar Bowl. Yes, one of your two wins was against Wake Freakin Forest.

Please don't argue the relative strength of the B1G with me, because I believe you are a Louisville fan. Louisville doesn't play anybody, period. UL has never won a national championship in football. Ohio State has won a NC 7 times, including beating what was regarded as a very, very good "fast" Miami team in the BCS era. And don't bother bringing up the "late call" in the end zone in that game, because defensive holding should have been called earlier.

Ohio State plays the schedule that was developed for it for a given season. Schedules that are put together years before they're played. In the recent past OOC games have included Texas and USC when both were very good. Like it or not, the B1G had at least 3 legitimate teams this year: Ohio State, MSU and Whisky. I don't need to discuss the AAAAAAAC's pedigree here.

Better yet, here was UL's schedule this year:

Ohio
Eastern Kentucky
at Kentucky
FIU
BYE
at Temple
Rutgers
Central Florida
at USF*
BYE
Connecticut
Houston
Memphis
BYE
Cincinnati

A UL fan calling Ohio State a fraud is funny. It's funny only because you are a fellow Xavier fan; it would be sad otherwise.

You mad?

Not really.

I consider myself to be an objective Ohio State fan. On that note, I've held all season that Ohio State's defense is not a NC game caliber defense. I may have been one of the few people who regretted Saban's brain cramp (i.e. why don't you rely on your senior QB in overtime versus attempting a low percentage kill with Perfect Storm (big linemen; runback risk) circumstances). I felt that way because I would have preferred Ohio State in the 100th Rose Bowl, versus getting into this year's NC game.

I get that there are obnoxious Ohio State fans. Perhaps its kind of like UD Fans-Cubed, but with accomplishments.

I'm just a little tired of reading that Ohio State in football is some kind of fraud. If Ohio State is some kind of fraud in college football, I don't know what that means for college football.

Wake Forest with a #15 ranking means nothing to me, because it's Wake Forest. UL achieved an #18 ranking (AP) at present based on an embarrassing schedule.

When was the last time UL PLAYED for a national championship?

Not sure what that has to do with the subject matter at hand. I can tell you that Louisville beat a BCS #3 about 11 months ago in the Sugar Bowl. You have to go back a ways to find a time when Ohio State beat anyone that highly ranked.

And Wake Forest was the ACC champs. Beat FSU something like 40-0 in Tallahassee. They were better than anyone not named Michigan State on this year's Ohio State schedule, for example.

The subject matter as I think you're defining it is that Ohio State was a fraud this year at #2 in the BCS. That's your opinion. My opinion is that they weren't a "fraud" at that ranking. Ohio State's offense is very good this year and could hang with any team in the nation. As I noted earlier, being honest about it, Ohio State's defense, which most teams would still love to have, is not of a NC championship game caliber. Nonetheless, regardless of what you think of their schedule, winning 20+ games in a row is an achievement, and a mark of a strong program.

Beyond that, from my vantage point, I have a UL fan taking shots at the Ohio State football program. I can't imagine why you feel compelled to do that as much as you do. If "fraud" is going to be used in the context of rankings, then UL should not be ranked 18th in the nation based on your schedule.

You simply lose your credibility when you bring up Wake's victory in Tallahassee that year. FSU's 2006 record was 7–6, with 5 wins vacated (3–5 ACC, 2 wins vacated). Bobby had stayed too long and was on his way out very ungracefully. You accuse Ohio State of being a fraud at BCS #2 due to a weak schedule and you bring up a Wake Forest win over a crappy FSU squad?

I also happen to know about that Wake team. Riley Skinner is the grandson of a friend of mine. Riley's grandfather would tell you that things fell into place for Wake that year, as that was the season that a rather extensive redshirting strategy paid off for Grobe.

They were better than anyone not named Michigan State on this year's Ohio State schedule, for example.

Ohio State, Michigan State, and Wisconsin of this year would have destroyed that Wake Forest team, but nice try. Otherwise, for the 2006 season, Ohio State, Wisconsin and Michigan would have flattened that Wake Forest team. Do you take these positions because your team is heading into the ACC and feel compelled to defend it?

OSU is certainly a fraud when compared with who they played vs somebody like Bama. Anyone think that a one loss Bama was a worse team than an undefeated Oh-ha-Ho State when it came to who should have been playing for a National Championship? I doubt it. Clearly, Ohio State was a charlatan imposter as being the best qualified to play in the BCS Championship game over a team like Auburn. It was proven when they lost to Michigan State. Game over.

Notre Dame was just as much of a fraud as Mantai Teo's girlfriend last year too...and it was shown when they were rolled by Alabama. Yeah, let's have a repeat of that debacle.

Winning 24 in a row is a red herring when it comes to who should be playing for the ultimate trophy and it was shown to be so Saturday night....., and that is what this discussion has been about- the best qualified to be in the BCS championship.

See what I'm talking about? Stupidity.

Do you know the definition of fraud MOR? It looks like you don't. Ohio State didn't deceive anyone. They played the teams on their schedule and they beat them. Want MOR do you want? The Buckeyes were a "fraud" that was finally exposed? They lost. They don't get to play in the NC game. They didn't win their conference. It's that simple. They didn't swindle their way into the conversation, it's stupid people like you who think they did.

Also, last year there wasn't any controversy about ND making it to the NC game. In fact for most of the past five years, the NC game was mostly universally accepted. Except for 2011 which was a rematch; a boring game that no one watched.

You of course hate Ohio State, hate ND, hate everyone but whomever is currently running the Browns it seems. I get that. It's fine, it's just when you make stupid statements about "fraud" or red herring, or whatever and patting yourself on the back like you know what you are talking about.

Ohio State didn't win the Big Ten. They weren't a fraud simply because you got caught up early in a conversation that wasn't finished.

I'm sorry MOR but ND wasn't a Fraud last year by any stretch. Were they best team? Obviously not. But they deserved to go to the NC last year. They beat 3 teams ranked in the top 10 last year and 5 teams ranked. Hardly a fraud. Alabama is an entirely different beast all together. ND consistently plays one of the toughest schedules in the nation and absolutely deserved to go to the National Championship last year. Notice how there was NO controversy about ND playing at all with their undefeated season?

It's just incredibly stupid. The media bitch all season long about how OSU is a paper tiger then the Harris poll and the AP comes out and they keep moving up the ladder. It's an ouroboros of bullshit. A human centipede if you will.

I can't decide whether college football is the greatest sport because of all this garbage or if it is great because of the complaining about said garbage.

Ohio State is probably around the 7th or 8th best team in the country. Because their conference was a ball of poop, this was not clear until they lost to Michigan State at the end. But now it is. My thought is that people should ignore the stupid mid-season BCS polls and all the noise on television and wait for the actual games to finish. Alabama was the invincible dynasty until they hit Auburn. Oregon was unstoppable until the Stanford game.

Next year I believe Ohio State plays Navy, UC, and Virginia Tech away in non-conference, which is relatively respectable. If they get to 12-0 next year they'll deserve a playoff spot.

I second that emotion.

Just because you get bent over in a title game doesn't mean you don't deserve to be there. A few years ago, Alabama smashed a good LSU team in the NC game...I guess LSU sucked that year. If OSU would have won Saturday night, they would have deserved to play FSU, period.

Notre Dame hammered top-5 Oklahoma and top-10 (at the time) Michigan State on the road, beat Michigan and Stanford at home, crushed a decent Miami team, and beat down (but still bowl-eligible) USC, Navy, and BYU.

I'm no Irish fan, but they ran an impressive gantlet. There was no one more qualified to play Bama. Bama was just that good.

I agree with all that. And I especially agree with your other post on teams that are considered "unstoppable" at the beginning and middle of the year. Oregon is case and point every year. Great offense, always cover spreads and beat up on opponents...then they play one smash mouth team (usually Stanford) and they lose. Last year everybody thought it was gonna be Alabama and Oregon.......Oregon of course loses at home to Stanford and Notre Dame climbs up the rankings and earns the #2 spot.

The schedule argument doesn't work with Notre Dame like it did this year with Ohio. ND's schedule is always at least pretty good. Ohio's schedule this year was pathetic.
I would have loved to see (even though I'm more happy Sparty won) Ohio get jumped by Auburn if they squeaked that game out Saturday night.
Luckeye fans wanted to kill people after that loss on Saturday where Michigan St. was clearly the better team (Ohio dodged Nebraska, Michigan St., and Minnesota in conference).....imagine what they would have done if they got jumped by Auburn. That would have been maybe just as good as seeing tUrban and all his stupid faces Saturday night.

Missouri also dodged a bullet in the SEC East not having to play Alabama, Auburn and LSU in the West. If they were gonna win the SEC they just lost their best chance at it.

I have grown tired of College football because of these arguments. Smart football fans also understand that B1G schools are built to win in November and December in outdoor games. When they travel south and west for bowl games to SEC and Pac-12 stadiums and play "road games" in warm weather of course they lose a lot.

That said, I now look at teams I believe aren't paying their kids thousands of dollars. I immediately exclude the likes of Alabama, Auburn, and tOSU from those arguments. They should be good with their payroll (I mean to the kids not to the coaches). It's like ignoring the Yankees and Red Sox in baseball and admiring the likes of the Cards and A's for having reasonable payrolls.

Cold weather teams vs warm weather has nothing to do with it. Location, money and women probably do. The SEC wins because they just typically have the best players. I mean I love ND but if I am a stud recruit I am going warm weather with cute chicks and large payrolls.

I think there's a few major issues:

1. The African-American population in this country is disproportionately located in the Southeast. Ten of the twelve US states with the highest black population (by percentage) are SEC states (the other two are Delaware and Maryland).

2. Migration patterns generally over the past 50 years have seen people leaving the Midwest for the Southeast and the West Coast.

3. The SEC programs have made the largest monetary investments in football facilities, coaches, etc. (obviously OSU, Michigan, Penn State, ND being notable exceptions)

4. Weather, etc. makes it easier to recruit. It's an outdoor game, after all.

I don't really see this changing any time soon. A lot of these factors feed into one another. I expect the SEC to continue to dominate college football for the foreseeable future.

Inclement weather (cold and snow) really negates the speed advantage quickly. Football games become a battle between the tackles. Watch some of the bowl games, a lot of west coast and southern teams have insane speed on the corners and can showcase that in ideal conditions.

By the way, you say OSU is running the same things but at the same time are calling them a paper tiger. To an extent that scheme will do well but in the end in cold weather you absolutely have to have a good running game to thrive.

Finally, if you guys sit here and think that the SEC is the best conference for any other reason than they pay their guys the most you are crazy. In the past, kids have always gone where they can play. It's been in the last 15 or so years where booster payouts have ballooned. It's obvious who can and does pay out the most. Hell, Bama kids in the NFL are confessing left and right about receiving cash.

I guess Santonio Holmes was lying when he said he received money when at school.

Terrell Pryor, Andy Katzenmoyer and Maurice Clarrett all drove cars they paid for by working legitimate jobs over the summer.

The population movement from the Midwest has been a major factor. If the Big Ten wants to compete, they are going to have to pay a lot more money.

This!!

Or, the NCAA is gutted and actual employees are hired with guts to go after the big schools that pay insane amounts of cash to get big time players to attend their colleges.

When the going rate for a McDonald's All American is about $100k, XU won't get one of those for a long time.

I have a few KU friends who pine for a day when the BCS schools separate from the NCAA in favor of a new governing power. They say this in regards to UK getting insane classes year in year out. I mention to them that Wiggins/Embiid/Seldon cost their boosters a pretty penny and the school has absolutely no desire for the status quo to change.

Their basketball program is as profitable as a lot of football programs. There aren't a lot of schools able to have a great football and basketball team, at least consistently anyway. I am sure a lot of that is because booster money most likely gets funneled to one particular sport.

This could all be changed very easily....how....just as the NFL has figured out after all these years that you can actually play the Super Bowl in cold weather, outside, up north, in January or February and still make their billions of dollars. Rotate the college football championship games between the usual warm weather and dome stadiums to outside in the cold northern stadiums, which are what the Big Ten schools teams are built for to win their conference titles. Completely different game. Power, running, defense, in the mud or frozen turf, wind, snow and ice, all elements, and more local/northern fans in the stands. The northern schools will start once again winning their fair share of national championships and the entire recruiting process tips back to being much more balanced. And most importantly these days, the NCAA still makes their billions of dollars.

This is absolute nonsense. The Big Ten with their big slow fatass players would still get boatraced every year. And who in their right mind wants to play for the national championship in a blizzard ? Wait til you see what a catastrophe this years Super Bowl ends up. If it's cold the place will be half empty by halftime. This is not personal at all, but have you ever played a physical sport outdoors in the extreme cold and snow? It absolutely affects speed and your ability to use it as a weapon. I played soccer and relied on my speed and I was always slower when it snowed or when it was below 30 degrees. It took away my best weapon on the pitch.

aHHH, Yes I have. But my main point was, WHY, WHY, hold a national championship in extreme conditions ? In case you haven't noticed maybe 1 or 2 BIG Ten games a year are in the cold, the rest are played in 80 to 45 degree weather, depending on the month. The BIG championship is played indoors in Indianapolis.

The one and only reason bowl games are played where they are is for warmer weather and decent vacation destinations. If they held a January bowl game in Green Bay no fan would travel there to see their teams.

Yes, the cold inclement weather most certainly affects how teams play. AMMTD34, you merely said the right team should have won. I am saying overall team speed is something that can and is equalized in the extreme cold and snow or some other miserable weather conditions.

College football has a lot of things wrong with it and bowl game location is certainly one of them.

Right, so if the team that should have won did in fact win, the weather either had no effect on the game or affected both teams equally, having no net effect on the game. I have seen a TON of soccer games in the cold and snow. I can't think of one time when the weather gave a team an advantage or disadvantage.

The article does say that Grant isn't enrolled for Spring Semester but could possibly enroll for summer or fall classes at Notre Dame. An "academic issue" means one of 2 things - either his GPA fell below the school's minimum standards or he cheated/plagiarized on a test/paper for one of his classes. If it's a GPA issue it's probably been going on for a couple of semesters. I think if you fall below the academic probation line (usually a 2.0) for a couple of semesters then you get suspended from school for a semester.

Even though the Big Ten is weak lately in football there is no arguing the academics of the conference as a whole is WAY better than any BCS conference and the conference easily has the most money. Its not even close.
In the SEC they don't go to school but they accept tons of cash, push things under the rug, play in great weather all season long, and get to look at hot girls. Football has changed a ton in the last 30 years. I will take the academics over the cheaters and scumbags down South.

Agreed. Throw Farr out there and see what version of him shows up. If he continues his poor play, figure we'll either see more Stenger or more J-Mart at the 4. This also gives more minutes to Myles to break out of his slump and who knows, maybe the Brandon Randolph we all loved early in the season will decide to show up.

I just wish Chris would spend more time worrying about his team showing up like they're supposed to.

IMO the only time the fans don't bring it is when the team comes out flat which has happened far too often this year.

The game is beyond a sellout which is all you should really ask for from the fans.

If Chris wants fans to stand and be loud he needs to make sure the team comes out and gives us a reason to get on our feet.

I don't think that's all on Chris. First off, Seton Hall they showed excellent effort. Shots didn't fall. Shit happens.

But on a high school, college, and professional level, it's also on the players to get excited and be ready to play. It's that space between your ears. They are young adults. If the guys on the team cannot get excited to play, what do you think a coach can do?

I can ask my guys to do sprints, but only they know if they are going 100%. I can shout, whoop, and holler at them to get excited before a drill or a game, but if their heart isn't in it, is it my fault completely? I've had games where my team has completely dominated the game, but we've hit the post five or six times and lose by two. Is it my fault? These things happen. Wasn't our day and the Seton Hall game wasn't Xavier's.

Some folks have their heads up their asses when it comes to blaming anything and everything on the coach. Thats a fact.

Didn't you know that in the 8 seconds Mack took to send that tweet, he should have been preparing his team for Nova! My god we have some serious tampons on this board.

Uh, yeah. That, and sometimes the other team just wins.

Part of Mack's job is to be an rep for the univeristy. Pretty sure this falls into that part of his job.

Would you rather we have a coach who stays in a dark office, does not care to interact and show price and passion for his program, his school.

Is it just me or does it seem like we have a had a lot more local "celebrities" at our games this year? Pretty cool if you ask me!

DePaul averaged fewer fans per game (<2000) than Creighton sold all-session tickets (2300) to #BIGEASTtourney. Wrap your mind around that.

The regular season won't get them to the NCAA tourney. Maybe they feel that their only shot it to catch fire at MSG.

Is there another fanbase that does this? Seriously, I'm asking. Do these kids have nothing better to do?

At least we can get some joy out of all this by knowing that UD fans are paying money to watch X play and it's not even against their team. What a bunch of losers.

I'm sure if we were in UD's position, we'd have students doing the same thing.

But that being said, I'm so happy we aren't in UD's position. Make no mistake about it. The A10 will not be this successful in the long term. We are in a superior position now to retain coaches and attract top talent. Whatever happens tomorrow night, we are in a better position to succeed in the long term.

I just don't understand. Don't those students have a life? It's St. Patricks Day for crying out loud. They don't have anything better to do? UD Arena isn't even on campus. It's not like Cintas, where it's a stones throw from the dorms. Those students had to drive (or walk I guess) over a mile off campus to get there.

Not a tweet, but this is in addition to my previous post...

UD fans as a collective unit need to get a fricking life. Don't they have a team in the tournament they should be focusing on?

I like the comment about how they don't view us as a rival anymore and we still think of them as a rival yet they will still buy tickets to go to a Xavier game to boo them.
