I stumbled across that bullshit Circus article on ESPN today. I went on the site thinking, "I wonder what articles ESPN will have on the Big East today" with it being official today and that's the only thing I found that's recent (other than an "Insider" article called "How good is the new Big East?" which I'm not gonna pay to read). So the only free article is just Dana O'Neil bashing the conference.

ESPN must have told Dana, "hey you have to hate the Big East now because that's how we are 'reporting' from now on."

I thought Vez was the final scholarship, but I just went to the roster and counted 12 schollys, including Stenger. So I guess you're right. Vez is still on the official roster, so I guess someone over there is holding out hope...or is behind on their work.

You always want a scholarship open if possible in case a high level transfer becomes available during 1st semester. That's why Stenger didn't get his scholarship until second semester last year.

Since Cantino and Vez's spot are open they can give one to Stenger and keep the other for a possible transfer.

If it was just Cantino's open I think they'd keep it open for a possible transfer just like last year.

It's always a gamble with raw, athletic wing players. We could get another Keith Jackson or we could get another Derrick Brown. I think it's definitely worth the risk, we'll need to get more athletic in the Big East.

Yup. It seems to be Xavier's rule for over-recruiting: Only do it for can't-miss prospects. I don't know if they're going to go after Lyles the second time around, but I don't think depth will stop them, especially with a flexible position like the wing, where you can play a guy at the 2, 3, or even 4.

Off the top of my head, Marquette and Iowa also offered him. Do you know why they are no longer in the picture? Because they didn't fit the academic profile he was looking for or any other number of factors.

It has been emphasized many times recently in this thread that this isn't a traditional recruitment, that academics (and really, specific academic programs) matter a great deal to O'Mara, yet people keep using a traditional perspective on the recruitment. Just amazing.

Edit: By the way, the locale and the campus style are probably playing a big role too. Loyola is a cool city campus in the middle of Chicago (where he lives, by the way). Xavier isn't just competing with Loyola on the academic side of things. Cincinnati is competing with Chicago.

COUNCIL BLUFFS — Three people from Nebraska have been sentenced to federal prison in a sex trafficking and prostitution investigation in Iowa.


According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, Parrish Casebier, Cheryl Tucker and Kentrell Vertner, all of Omaha, were sentenced Tuesday and Wednesday in U.S. District Courts in Council Bluffs and Des Moines.

Casebier was sentenced to 25 years and Tucker was given 10 years for their participation in a conspiracy to commit sex trafficking. Vertner was sentenced to 18 months for his role in a conspiracy to transport individuals in interstate commerce for prostitution.

Authorities said the case began with an investigation by Bluffs police in 2010 into a kidnapping attempt at a motel. — AP

Well, they can lose money on a BCS Bowl, or a non-BCS Bowl game. I prefer that they lose it on a low profile game like the Badlands Bowl played in an outdoor stadium in Rapid City South Dakota on December Twenty-BLAAAAAAAAHTH! They can spend huge jack on transporting their team to a venue where A) There will be 3 live people in the stands, B) The game will be played at some Gawd-awful hour and C) Only degenerate gamblers and the players parents will watch on TV.
