Friends -

I do not speak on behalf of Marquette fans everywhere, but I am confident that everyone is excited that Xavier will be a part of the new Big East. I predict that Xavier will be a top-5 program in the league within 3 years at most, probably year 1. As an added bonus, I hear word that Xavier does not want Dayton in the new league. Nobody wants Dayton in the new league, so we have a shared interest. Screw Dayton.

Anyway, I thought I should write this now because soon, very soon, I will stop being excited about playing Xavier and start hating Xavier. I'll probably spell it "Zavier" and pronounce it "zahv-ee-er" once Xavier starts splitting the home/away series (or, God forbid, win on our home court). Until then, know this - We are Marquette. We are excited about the new Big East. And we love you.

You have vaulted onto the very top of my favorite opposition fan list!

Welcome MF

It is obvious that you are putting that Jesuit education to good work!

I would say that it's safe to say that everyone here is really looking forward to the new conference. I have a great deal of respect for Marquette, and I'm looking forward to establishing a bit of a rivalry with you guys. See you soon.

XU Rocks!

The ESPN article states the new Big East plans to add Dayton and St. Louis in 2014 to form a 12-team league.

I have a feeling that in 24 months you'll hate Marquette more than you ever hated Dayton. They're very easy to hate once you get to know them.

I have a healthy hatred for Marquette. Thrilled to be in a league with them.

I disagree Brew...Marquette used to be in the same conference with us in the MCC...I have always had a healthy respect for Marquette...They win games and have success in the postseason...dayton does not, which is why I don't respect them and hate their annoying fans and program. Plus dayton has a lot of local people where Marquette, not so much.

I have a unique perspective. I am an XU alum (91) and Marquette alum (93). My dad was a prof at MU for 27 years and I grew up a huge MU fan, as we had season tickets for over 20 years. I remember the 1977 championsip and watching it on a 25 inch Panasonic TV in the living room. Both are great instituitions and have their own strengths. I will always root for both schools but X is my team. I have lived in Cincy for over 20 years now and this is my team, Marquette be damned. I want X to thrive and grow as a basketball power. WE ARE XU!

I was in the Omni in Atlanta in 1977 for Marquette's 'Ship and Al McGuire's swan song. Still have the ticket stub.

Took a piss next to, and talked to John Wooden too. Good times.

Marquette has done things and accomplished things, and has consistently won. UD is living on accomplishments from 40 yrs. ago. That's the difference. You can respect MU, not so much with UD. The team most of us probably will despise is Georgetown, as they possess the ND "we're better than everyone else attitude, that makes so many people hate ND.

24 months. Two years. We shall see. I can't speak for the MCC days, but you do have to admit that things are different now.

Dayton are like the ugly girl that thought she was the prom queen and they act like a bunch of elitiists because that's how they see themselves. When they don't win, there is always a conspiracy theory and a diatribe about how classess the opponent is to go along with it. I find it more amusing than anything else.

Imagine how much you'd resent UD if they were as arrogant as they were, AND actually managed beat us and outperform us a fair amount of the time. I think Marquette is one of those teams and fanbases that we are going to develop an extreme amount of hate for. In saying that, I don't think they're going to like us either.

I remember how everyone went crazy with jealousy when Butler made it to the Final Four. We hate it when we feel our peers outperform us. We almost resent the fact that they even attempt to outperform us. So does Marquette. Now Butler and Marquette are our peers. I know people respect them now, and they should, but in two years our fans will absolutely hate them. Those feelings will likely be mutual.

I too hope dayton doesn't join the league. They suck, their fans are delusional beyond knowing their station in life, and the town is a cesspool.

I HATE dayton.

I took a piss at a trough at Hinkle Fieldhouse next to Brent Musberger before the "clock" incident. I resisted the urge to yell "It's a dandy, folks!"

Maybe I will, if we have some kind of heartbreaking battles and whatnot, but when I was up in Cleveland a couple years ago for the first round game, their fans were all pretty cool, and me and my drunk buddies were the only group of X fans in a large group of yellow and blue. I already hate Butler, I will have a headache of a natural local rivalry with my Georgetown contingent, and I'm pretty sure my hatred for Villanova will soon reach par with my hatred for all other things Philly, save cheesesteaks, so Marquette will have to earn my hatred before I just go tossing around the term lightly.
