View Full Version : What A-10 Teams (if any) do we still play when we leave?

Once we join the Big East, here is how I would schedule the current A-10 Teams (except Butler) if I was in charge of our schedule:
Group 1 annual non-conference games, half home/half away - Temple, Dayton
Group 2 play 4 times in 10 years, two home/two away - St. Louis
Group 3 play 2 times in 10 years, one home/one away - Richmond, UMass, Charlotte, VCU
Group 4 buy games (only play at Cintas) - Duquense, St. Bona, St. Joe's, LaSalle, GW
Group 5 never play again - Fordham, Rhode Island
If past history is a guide, we'll probably only keep Dayton (assuming Butler joins the Big East too) since when we left the MCC we essentially never scheduled any of those schools again until Butler got good. I think we might have had a buy game with Detroit along the way, but we essentially dumped our MCC friends & I suppose we'll dump the A-10 friends as well.

Just as well. Make a clean break.
Unless it's part of the negotiation to eliminate the exit fee.

Temple will be in whatever their and UCs new league will be called.
I'd like to keep playing SLU and UD. VCU is a team who would be a good OOC game. No other team except maybe St. Joes would intrigue me. Maybe LaSalle if they continue to improve.

Would never play LaSuck at Tom Gola's Garage.
If we were sponsoring a guaranteed win night at Cintas, we could always schedule the dump, or Fordham.

I didnt say we have to play them there. Having a good year this year though and if they continued to improve I wouldnt mind playing them.

I think we play a buy game, early in the season, with UD.

I would like to see us play Temple.
From talking to Those Whose Opinions Matter, I would expect to see Dayton and/or St. Joe's.

In a Bleacher report on this years "Cinderella" teams, among the criteria for consideration - couldn't be from a BCS league or the A10.

It seems like the league might be getting some credit...just when we're about to leave.
Actually I think that might have something to do with it. The fact that the A10 teams (Xavier and Butler mainly) are prized picks for the BE raises the profile of the league...even if temporarily.

I think we will sign two year home and homes depending on who is good.
We will still play Dayton every year.
Other teams will come up in those two year contracts. I wouldn't mind buying a few, or even doing 2 for 1s.
I like SLU and I want to keep playing them. Would be nice to do a longer contract with 2 games every four years, so we play them once every two years and 5 of every 10. Just throwing that out there, but nobody does that. Sign a 12 year deal for 6 games, three home and three away.
I would like to play VCU and Richmond from time to time, when they are good.
I don't care to play Temple ever again. I never liked them.
Would be up for playing UMass in Boston in return for a home match.
If this league goes to 10 teams round robin, like some believe, that will be 18 conference games. We will have less non-con to play. Add tournaments and buy games and it whittles down the list of what you can do. We will always play Dayton, Miami, and UC.
Wouldn't mind a 3 for 1 with NKU or Wright State.
Could you ever imagine doing a Cuse and buying every game in the non-con slate? I can't either, but this new contract and our attendance and league scheule would give you the money to do it. You can see why people do it when they don't need it.

Scheduling is going to be a challenge on the short term, so for the coming year especially, I think we need to keep options open. I can't imaging the pencil pushers involved with scheduling at the various schools / travel guys etc.
At Xavier I foresee a combination of creaming pants and pulling out hair for a while.

Leave em all behind. Agree with MOR though on LaSuck. Most likely it will be Dayton, VCU and maybe SLU if those don't getin the following year.

I'd be up for X/SLU whenever it could be scheduled.
Hope that soon, that will be a required game.

I agree 100%. Been a fan of SLU since the Spoonball era and I think it would be a great arrangement.

I want to play none of them ever again except for the ones that end up in the Big East with us.

I disagree. A10 teams are perfect for scheduling OOC. We can't just play all shit eaters and blue bloods. Scheduling top half A10 teams is good competition, doesn't hurt your RPI, and will be pretty intense given our history. I'm not saying we need to schedule Fordham or dayton or Duquense or anyone like that, but I'd be down for SJU, VCU, Richmond, etc.
