Anyone been down under? Thoughts of things to do, see, explore. One week in New Zealand (with a south island focus) and a week in Australia (Sydney spefically). Of course it'll be their late fall to early winter, so will need ideas around that if you have any. Taking four daughters, one son and the wife. Ideas?

We were there in mid March a few years ago. Spent 3 days in Auckland. Great city. Be sure to get over to Waiheke Island, which is a short ferry ride from Auckland. There's a great winery there. We had a case of wine shipped home from there. I think the name was Mudbrick Winery. Also, be sure to do the America's Cup sailing excursion. That's a blast. There's also the Sky Tower, which has a very nice restaurant at the top.

In Sydney, be sure to do the Harbor Bridge climb and visit the Bridge Museum. Take a tour or two of the Sydney Opera House. We did the backstage tour, but there are a couple of other ones too. The Sydney Zoo & Aquarium is very nice. The Sydney Tower has a nice revolving restaurant at the top. One of the managers there was originally from Middletown, Ohio. Small world.

Both cities are great to just walk around. Lots of restaurants and bars along the harbor areas of both.

I'd spend hours a day flushing the toilet and marveling at how it goes the opposite direction. Hoy!

Actually, the Blob just left Sydney last Thursday. His companion said that Sydney is gorgeous, like Put-In-Bay but without all the drunks. From what I heard, I concur with everything BJF said, and what's really weird is that she did pretty much everything he said to do in his post. The bridge climb is serious work though.
