View Full Version : Adidas has made the tournament less watchable

There needs to be a directive against ridiculous uniforms. Retro uniforms and alternate uniforms were sort of cool, but then we started seeing them more frequently than the traditional uniforms. Soon, it will be a big deal whenever a team just opts to wear their normal uniforms.
I hope this link works. For whatever reason I was unable to save and upload as if it were a normal picture. This is the gear that these teams will be wearing in the NCAA Tournament. I love Notre Dame's piss-green camoflage look.
Ridiculous. Atriciously ridiculous. I encourage everyone to boycott Adidas forever.

I wasn't able to get the link to work but found a pic here:

UC has black ones and white ones. The white ones look bad too (see a pic of them from someone, but don't have no link). The other schools' jerseys look horrendous too. Brew, you're right, NDs are just wow.
These are hideous. Happy X is with Nike.

Horrible. I seriously can't fathom what Adidas was thinking. I've been on Twitter, Facebook, and ventured on both KU and UC boards this morning and haven't found a single positive reaction to these uniforms. Adidas really screwed the pooch here. I know people always talk about how if the players like them then that's all that matters. At some point you must hit a point of diminishing returns though, right? Who cares if the 13 guys on the team like them if LITERALLY everyone else even vaguely associated with the school doesn't.
I can speak from a Kansas' fan perspective...we have been mildly upset with Adidas for a few years and there had been rumors that after this season KU was going to switch to Nike. Hopefully these hideous things will be the last straw.

I blame Nike (Oregon) and Under Armor (Maryland) for starting this debacle.
(But I did like our throw back unis the other day)

Completely agree. The idea of "boycotting" Adidas is ridiculous. This is just their response to Nike's Oregon and specialty jerseys and the Maryland jerseys. They are all trying to do something whether it is "System of a Dress" or whatever, to the Nike ones this year with just the logo and number on front.
These suck, but so do most of these specialty jerseys. That said, as a small attempt at defending Adidas, when they did this last year they didn't look as bad in real life/TV as they do in the pictures. That's about the best I can say.

My eyes were permanently damaged at the Georgia Dome last year by those Baylor unis meant to honor Digger Phelps's hi-lighter.

Update:
Bill Self had a press conference today and addressed the uniforms. I can't find a like to a full transcript but he did say that KU will not wear them in the NCAA tournament and will probably only wear them once in the Big 12 tournament. He also said the players didn't like them (thank God) and that the decision to wear them ultimately rests with the schools, not Adidas.
Hopefully the other 5 schools do the same thing so we don't have to suffer through them the whole tournament.

Don't be blaming Under Armour for adidas shitty design. adidas has done this across the board. Their kits in soccer are terrible.
Under Armour uniforms are pretty good. Of course I am biased.

When I posted that, I thought it was an obvious hyperbole. Regardless of the reason, the uniforms still suck and Adidas deserves every bit of scorn they get, and then some.
Having said that, Eight years later I still support a full blown boycott of Applebees. We had the Mega March Madness package and had three TVs set up and saw this commercial on a loop for four days, twelve hours a day. There should definitely be a boycott, and that boycott should still be in force....

I'm glad to hear Kansas won't wear them. It would seem to me, though, that the schools had to ok them in some regard, otherwise I'd think there would be Indiana uniforms as well.
My cousin was an OSU assistant when their shorts had "Buckeyes" written on the butt. Their booster/alumni response was so bad that they ditched them mid season. I can't imagine some of the things that Louisville/Kansas/UCLA is hearing today.

One positive...since UC is playing their way into the NIT, no one will have to see those monstrosities on tv!
I am a huge fan of Oregon's football uni's, but this is starting to get out of hand and fast!

Calm down everyone, clealry you don't know these uniforms back story. These uniforms were designed to honor the 20th anniversary of the movie White Men Can't Jump.
