With 3 games to go it looks to me like the 3rd and 4th seeds are still up for grabs. SLU is a lock for a bye, and VCU probably is too as it relates to X. That leaves Butler, La Salle, Temple and X battling for those last 2 spots. Butler and La Salle each just have 4 losses, Temple and X have 5. Sagarin has Butler and X going 1-2, and La Salle and Temple going 2-1. X does have some tie-breakers in their favor.

Really want that buy. Starts at home Saturday which is a game I think we will get. SLU is playing unreal basketball right now but at least at home I think we have a chance. We know we can beat Butler but on the road this team has really shit the bed. Think we can go 2-1 but that wont be easy. 1-2 might be more likely but I dont think we go 3-0 or 0-3. Dont know the other team's schedules. Does 2-1 get us that 4 spot? I would think 1-2 does not just based off guessing. 3-0 obviously would I believe. We have a chance at least which is better than a lot may have expected. Big win tonight, too bad it doesnt help us get that 4 seed.

Lasalle should end up 11-5 and the best we will probably be is 10-6. If our loss is at Butler it would mean they would be ahead of us as well. Lets just hope Dayton somehow doesn't make the conference tournament.

Dayton plays at Charlotte tonight, for what that's worth.
3 games tonight, all but one are for the teams bunched up in 6-6 land, then there is Dayton at 4-8.
The other game is St Louis, which hosts St Joe. We need a strong showing from the Hawk.
After tonight all teams will have played 13 games.
Dayton needs a lot of luck to get a conference tourney invite.

I don't think Dayton needs much luck. It's almost certain to come down to their game at GW to finish the season. If they win that, they're almost certainly in. Lose, and they're almost certainly out.

As of right now, they need a little luck, but they really need a win tonight. With a win tonight, they're 1 game out of the 12 seed spot and have games remaining against St. Bonaventure and George Washington, who they're fighting with for that spot. A loss at Charlotte puts them 2 games out with 3 to play.
We're going to play Dayton again. It's predestined. Even if they miss the conference tournament, we are contractually obligated to play them again in a poststeason setting.

Fortunately, we aren't the only ones with a tough schedule down the stretch. SLU and VCU are pretty much uncatchable, but here are the other teams' schedules:
VCU - Butler, UMass, at Temple (I suppose it's possible they go 0-3)
Butler - at VCU, at UMass, Xavier
La Salle - Duquesne, GW, at SLU
Temple - URI, at Fordham, VCU
Honestly, I think it's going to be really tough to get a bye. 3-0 will obviously do it. 2-1 and its a lot tougher. We'd need La Salle to lose one they shouldn't OR have Butler go 1-2 and hope Temple doesn't run the table. 2-1 with a win over Butler helps us a LOT more than 2-1 with wins over UMass and SLU.

Let me chime in with a dumb question...
Only 12 teams make the conference tournament correct?

Why would you be rooting for St Joes? X isn't catching St. Louis and I would much rather St. Louis win the league than Butler or VCU. I don't want a newcomer winning the league in their first season.

I was responding to a respone about keeping Dayton out of the conference tournament.
Right now, the most wins Dayton can get would be 8. Obviously any further losses Dayton can accrue help further cement their place outside the tournament, but if we can get some of the 6-6, 6-7 teams a couple more wins that helps.
The Hawk winning tonight gets them to 7.
Charlotte winning would get them to 7 (and as an added bonus make Dayton's best possible season 7-9)
Richmond and GW will cancel each other out tongiht - one goes to 7-6 the other to 6-7.
So Hawk, Niner, and Spider/Colonial (U Pick Em) - wins tonight get each of those teams up to 7, and puts a win limit on dayton of 7. Those other three teams just need one more win to cement themselves a spot in Brooklyn,, the loser of Spider/Colonial has a slightly rougher road at 6-7, and would need to win 2 of 3 to put the final nail in. 2 Dayton losses and it would be the tie break between dayton and that unfortunate team, 3 dayton loses (out of 4 games remaining seals their fate)

But yes, I could much easier stomach St Louis as A10 champ than a new comer, just for the sake of league pride.
As far as us getting the bye, the origianl topic of this thread - well it is also going to be a rough road, a win over UMass will help that a tad, but not if the teams ahead of us keep winning. We have limited ourselves at 11 wins, and three teams already have 10. And VCU will have the tie break over us. We really need to steal some wins against St. Louis and Butler - those help in that they give us a much needed win, but they give those teams a loss as well.
Oh, and how is this for a reason to root for The Hawk - FLAGSHIP PRIDE! - Yes, as 'bad' as this season has been, and I use 'bad' in scare quotes as a truly bad season would be if we really crashed and burned and were more like 11-16 or worse, and 5-8 in conference or worse.
FLAGSHIP is still possible. But it will take lots of hard work, lots of luck, and lots of superior teams falling apart. Very unlikely, I know. If we won out, that would get us to 11 wins, and would give St. Louis one more loss, then St. Louis would need to lose 2 more games (yeah, with the lots of luck and wishing ill-will on other teams), but also the other teams ahead of would need to lose 1-2 of their final 3 games (depending on our tie breaker status). That would mean a win over Butler which would take care of that one nicely, VCU needs to lose twice. Yeah, a whole bunch of things would need to come together but I'm saying there is still a chance.
And if that happens - Mack is most definitely COY material.
