I always marvel at these lower breeds who seem compelled to pen these incoherent and gin-induced posts. Did you assemble this rather pedestrian attempt at provocation, or did you and your frat buddies hover around an IPhone for hours languishing over the language to assure yourselves of a prideful "smack down". You surely are an impressive writer for a low-density idiot savant.

I can't believe I'm doing this...I don't normally register for other school's message boards, but I can't idly sit back and watch TC establish the baseline of what a Memphis fan is around here. We consider him "special" and often ban him from posting his nonsense on our most active board. He is quite prone to outlandish statement full of misspelled words and random capitalization, yes completely devoid of paragraphs. I won't hang around long and I don't plan on trolling anyone, it's just not my MO.
Anyway, I look forward to seeing my beloved Tigers step out of conference and see what we can do in Cincinnati. I haven't followed Xavier this year...frankly, there have been more pressing things on my mind. However, here's a VERY brief synopsis on us. We're not the team you played last year. We're not the team you may or may not have seen in the Battle 4 Atlantis. Our players have finally started letting themselves be coached. We like a fast paced game, but run more offensive sets than people give us credit for. We no longer just rely on our athleticism to play.
On offense, our biggest weakness seems to be spotty play inside. We have the talent, we have the size, but you can't always tell because players get in foul trouble. On defense, we don't seem to pressure much but we will harass and block a lot of shots. If we have a weakness on the defensive side, it's a tendency to leave someone open for a 3.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to Tuesday night and will leave you in peace.
P.S. Memphis is named after Memphis, Egypt...which was an extremely important city in the history of Egypt prior to Roman conquest. Also, the University (referred to herein as a community college) is the source of some of the most important modern scholarly research and archaeological efforts related to ancient Egypt. So yes, the Pyramid is quite apropos.

You play in an NBA arena? Wow!!!!! That is going to be awesome playing classic games against Tulane, SMU, Houston, east Carolina and Navy! See the thing is X plays on campus in their own arena. We don't borrow one like you guys because we arnt a mid-major. You are right though it sucks not being the best team in the city. The Reds have been playing really well and they have become the #1 team in the city. Plus the Bengals have been doing well as of late. In all seriousness, I like Memphis and will be rooting for them. They have a nice program and really are capable of winning in their 11th ranked conference. Nice win BTW against Harvard, Ohio, northern Iowa and Southern Miss. When you can knock out those heavyweights you know you're having a great year. Talk to me when you have beaten one good team.

All of the data and stats says that Memphis plays a TOUGHER schedule than Xavier. So if Xavier cannot make it playing their weaker schedule, what makes them think they could make it playing a tougher schedule?
Of course a loss to Xavier this week would be devastating. Since Xavier is dangerously close to being classified as a bad loss in the RPI.

Your original response was to a post which claimed Xavier plays a tougher conference schedule than Memphis. This is unequivocally true. The A10 is 7th in the RPI while C-USA is 11th. Memphis is one of a of 4 teams in the top 100 RPI in C-USA while Xavier is one of 10 in the A10.
Also, just for shits...by the end of the season Memphis will have played 14 games overall against teams currently in the top 100 RPI. Xavier will have played 13. Man that Memphis schedule is sooooo much tougher than Xavier's isn't it!

Memphis ranks #3 in the Most Miserable Cities ranking and #2 in violent crime. That's something to be proud of.

By the way. Memphians were calling for Josh Pastner's head early in the year when they blew all their big games. Now that they've won a bunch of games in a row against Horriffic CUSA competition, all is well? I doubt it.

Memphis does some quality recruiting as well. Memphis currently has a player on the team, who I will not name on this board, that has been arrested many times for possession of drugs. He was also kicked off his Community college team because of this. He was also suspended from his high school team numerous times for fighting with teammates. He fits in perfectly in Memphis!

You don't share much? Except the building, the seats, pretty much everything...except the floor, which means you have to install it every time you want to play (or even do a walk through) on the court. How about when a recruit comes in and wants to see the floor? Better make sure that the right floor is down, and no NBA practice is going on...
Best to have your own dedicated building, like what Xavier has. No one else has final say on the pecking order of what happens in our arena. Memphis doesn't have that. If there is a conflict, you better believe that the Grizzlies get first say. Sharing an arena sucks, believe me, I remember the days when X played at the Gardens. (The place had a GREAT atmosphere, except for the smell of elephant poop and the hockey ice under the floor)

That's a cute yet inaccurate attempt at a comeback. Seriously, as second fiddles go, you can't be in a much better situation than Memphis, but it doesn't change the fact that you are second fiddle. Memphis has enough going for it this season and in general that I don't understand why you feel the need to lie to yourself about the arena issue. It's not terrible, but it's not a big plus for the program either. I'm sure some recruits with serious ambition think, "Man, the Memphis Grizzlies play here too!" Then they end up realizing, either later as recruits or as players, "Man, the Memphis Grizzlies play here too..."
I bet it's sometimes a good perk when recruiting, but other times I bet it sucks that they don't get the first and last word in their arena.
XUFan09

From a recruitment standpoint, by the way, recruits love the Cintas Center and are really impressed by the facilities, plus the staff can sell the fact that Xavier basketball gets first and last say on what happens there.

If Dee Davis is out as a precaution, I don't think Xavier stands much of a chance against Memphis. And unless Davis is perfectly fine, I don't see the staff playing him for what amounts to an exhibition game for Xavier.
I hope Xavier keeps this game competitive at the very least and I wish the Tigers the best in the tourney. Maybe the Musketeers will join them if they get the auto-bid.

Just looked at wikipedia, Memphis has more than a few vacated * seasons in their history. That is something I would not be really proud of. Add to that, Pastnor was basically Calipari's hand picked successor, a rotten X's and O's coach, and probably in the same network of crooked recruiting as his former boss.
Yes XU is down, but in no way do I ever want us even attached to the likes of Calipari and any other recruiting cheats.

It ain't little, and the school logo doesn't get folded up and put into a broom closet whenever the NBA needs to have a shootaround.
It also doesn't host a yearly matchup with Tulane University, which I feel has to be another check in the plus column as well.

Yes, Big East = CUSA V2, we know, we know. Trying to get over it, but it's hard. The best we can say is "at least it is a lot better than what's left of next year's CUSA"....which isn't saying much. However, UConn, Cincy, Temple, Memphis >>>> Memphis, UTEP, Southern Miss, UCF (probable top four teams in each conference future vs. past). A10 will stay solid, as long as C7 doesn't poach. Even if they do, I'm sure you guys are one of the invites. Be a heck of a move for you.

Speaking of sharing an arena - circus hygeine must have gotten better over the years. (See PM Thor's comment about some of the aromas Cincinnate Gardens used to have). Xavier rented out Cintas to a circus between the VCU game and the Memphis game, I didn't detect any ill effects, armoas or otherwise.
In the land of arena leases - its good to be the landlord. No having your NIT game tossed, like what happened with us at the Gardens, and seems to happen to at least one team every NIT. (See UK playing in their on campus arena instead of Rupp one year, Dayton whenever they play in the NIT, Ohio State playing an NIT game in St Johns, etc.)
Speaking of that Circus - anybody go? I looked at the ad and decided against it. According to their website, it was all festival seating too. I thought that was illegal in Cincinnati...
X-band '01
02-28-2013, 08:02 AM
Festival seating was reinstated a few years back.
As far as the NIT, thankfully Xavier doesn't have much experience trying to coordinate NIT games. It does help not to host NCAA play-in games.
I felt the real pain on Tuesday night. It is really painful shitting out a Tiger.
