Last night, I attended the "22nd Annual Basketball Extravaganza" - which is a fund raiser for "A Kid Again" (from what I understand a charity similar to Make a Wish).
Historically, the game has been Reds (Current and past) Vs. Bengals (current and past). Oh, ok, the lawyers won't allow that, so its Baseball All Stars Vs. Football All Stars - and the teams where red/white and black/orange unis. This year, the early start of Spring Training added a wrinkle that the Reds current players couldn't make it, and the World Baseball Classic meant the former players could not make it either. So they assembled a team of past NBA, UC, Harlem Globetrotter basketball players, a couple baseball players (including a Brave), and more. Byron Larkin was our sole Xavier entry into the game.
Clearly not one of the intended 'headliners' and the game was more Harlem Globetrotters than anything else. 4 12 minute quarters, the first 3 played with a running clock, they only bothered with clock management in the 4th quarter, and I think the game ending was made for excitement - as the final was 90-86 Baseball. You know the kind of game, no defense what so ever, a lot of circus shots, really just an excuse to come, bid on sports memorabillia in the silent auction, buy tickets on the raffles, etc.
Anyway our own Byron Larkin did manage 6 points despite his very limited playing time. Yes a three in there.
Also I really like NKU's arena. small, cozy, wondefully padded chairs in the lower deck (except for the backless bleachers for the student section, like students sit anyway. According to the signage on the way in the game was a sell out, which is 9,400 at NKU.
