Some friends and I like to have fun with some of the more outrageous games you see throughout the year. This may be one of the most outrageous games in college basketball history.

Crowley's Ridge College is a member of the NCCAA (National Christian College Athletic Association), which I believe is a pseudo-subdivision of the NAIA. I actually have a friend that coaches baseball at Victory College in Memphis, which is an NCCAA school. One of the rules of the NCCAA is that there is no recruiting. None. Teams are fielded through open sign-ups and open tryouts. So, literally, anyone on campus can sign up the same way they would sign up for a club team, and have a chance of making the team.

That's actually not a bad custom, but if that's how you're going to run your shop, you shouldn't play teams that run shop the way div1, di2, div3 or even other NAIA teams run shop.

Previous NCCAA vs NCAA div1 games have given us results such as Toccoa Falls losing 81-15 to Wofford in 2005. One of the highlights of this game was that Toccoa Falls was called for a technical foul becuase they had six players on the floor. As if that mattered.

And another more recent result was that same Toccoa Falls program losing to Wester Carolina 141-39 just last year...

This game is interesting because Eastern Kentucky is substantially better than last year's Western Carolina team. Seeing as how Crowley's Ridge has an enrollment of less than 300 students, and a current reported record of 5-15 (I say current REPORTED record because the last four games have not been updated on their website), this Crawley's Ridge team is probably substantially worse than those Toccoa Falls teams.

This is the most outrageous game ever scheduled. It's absolutely and wonderfully outrageous. There is nothing practical, or sane, or useful, or logical to this game tonight.....and I think it is terrific.

Haha wow! Looking through that Toccoa/Carolina boxscore, I would imagine that the 72-17 halftime deficit was tough to overcome. Rebounding margin was 58 to 16! Offensive rebounds was 22 to 3! That's like Xavier/Dayton numbers; never thought I'd see domination like that again.

One of the Toccoa players had 11 turnovers. Ouch.

Edit - gotta add to this.....after I read what you posted I was thinking you meant some school in Eastern KY that's allowed to recruit is playing Crowley's and how ridiculous that is that schools like that are playing each other. But now I undestand what you meant, they're actually playing the D1 school Eastern Kentucky University. HOLY SH!T. You're right, this is totally outrageous. Complete lunacy. Obviously, even the worst D1 school would crush a team like that. On top of that, EKU is 17-6, scores 73pts/gm and has guys that can nail 3s. I can not wait to see the boxscore tonight.

Crowley's is probably getting paid 5 years worth of their atheltic budget to come play this game.

It's not their first DI game, according to the Richmond Newspaper:

Crowley’s Ridge College is one of 60 members of the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA). The Pioneers have a 7-17 record. CRC fell to Tennessee Tech, 107-32, in November.

Tennessee Tech is in last place in Eastern Kentucky's Division of the OVC at 2-8, 8-14 overall. By comparison EKU is 7-3 (tied for second) and 17-6.

Gotta Watch Out for Wofford.

They'll sneak up on ya.

Why would a D-I team play that game?

How did I miss that.

I wonder how many of Crowley Ridge's players even played for their high school team. Seriously. It's an open sign up and tryout, and they have less than 300 people total in the school. Presumably half of them are women.

I'm thinking I could have made this team. Hell, I probably could have started.

52-16 at half. Almost half of EKU's players are transfers or came from JUCOs...actually have two JUCO All-Americans.

And said video may be better than what you get of our road game Saturday. It's one of those mysterious TWC Sportchannel game.
