View Full Version : Marshall Henderson Salutes the Auburn Fans

Yes, it was probably classless. No, I wouldn't put up with it. However, he doesn't play for me or for a team that I really care about, so I thought it was great. I love watching Henderson play. He is a good player who plays with emotion, intensity and with his effort cranked up to 11. He also willingly allows himself to get carried away. Is it wrong?? Probably, but college basketball can use a bad guy wrestler to make things more interesting every now and then. He had a bad game last night, but hit the game winning freetrhows. He then greeted the Auburn student section. You can watch this for an hour and never get bored....

The website below outlines all the things that make this so glorious. If you enjoyed what you saw above, it's worth a glance...
■The just sheer amount of birds flying at that moment. It’s really something how seemingly everyone had the same response.
■The old man standing up and taking exception.
■Keith Kessinger’s blank stare as he watches Marshall.
■J Stern’s glee as he sits to Keith’s right.
■The same look of glee on the security guard’s face. How much you want to bet he knows his way around a “Roll Tide”?
■Someone tries to throw a poster board at Marshall, instead hits group of girls. (On Twitter, suggestions that it’s in fact an umbrella or a fathead. Both are plausible).
■Striped sweater guy. Interesting fashion choice. I think I last saw that sweater on a Backstreet Boy in 1999.
■Look at the guy next to the Auburn pajama girl. Keeps same slight, sideways grin the whole time.
■Auburn pajama girl herself. That’s a different look.
■The girl behind Auburn pajama girl, who screams “F— You” so hard she loses her balance.
■Every time I watch it, I wait for the really really old guy to stand up and do something about it.

That was entertaining! I like the 100 year-old man (next to the old man who stands up) who seems oblivious to what is going on. Kind of a "Why am I here?" sort of thing.

Those Auburn fans are all just mad someone tricked them into going to a basketball game. They must have assumed it was going to be arena football. Why else would they be there?

That's not particularly different from the scene at the Robbins Center right before the infamous hallway fight.

Most of the fans were probably there because of him.
This is probably the first time Henderson's antics have gotten this much attention. Ole Miss is now in the rankings, and more people are starting to tune in. It's basically a nightly occurence, and people around the SEC are aware of him. Not this action specifically, but it's always something, and it's always great. I can't wait to see what he does next.
You're right about Auburn fans, and a great deal of SEC fans. There are the top programs like Florida, Kentucky and Mizzou that pack the house (and Tenn when they're winning). There are others that only pack the house when they play a top program, or in the rare occassion that their team is good. Now, people are showing up when Ole Miss rolls into town because of Marshall Henderson. Whether the reasons are good, bad, or whatever, he's made Ole Miss basketball a destination ticket both at home and on the road.

Can you imagine the back lash if a Xavier player acted like this? The University might shut down the program and everyone would have to take a vow of silence. If I played against this punk I would probably take a swing at some point. What a jack ass.

Seriously, unless that kid finds a way to find balance and perspective, you'll probably be reading about him some day, and it won't have anything to do with a basketball game, nor will it be a positive story. What a j-hole.

Yes, but in a weird sort of likable way.

The beauty of this, at least for me, is that it's Ole Miss. I don't care about Ole Miss. If this keeps up for the rest of this year and all of next year, the shit probably will hit the fan. But, you know what?? It's Ole Miss's problem, not mine. I just get to sit back and watch the shit show.
I'm somewhat fascinated by it. I can't help it. I guess I'm a flawed individual. I'd feel differently if it had anything to do with me, or with a team that I actually like and/or care about, but it doesn't. It's Ole Miss. They're traditionally pretty piss poor, but this year they're in the rankings, and their best player acts like a bad guy wrestler at some point on seemingly every night they play. And I think it's great.
Like I said, I can't help but be fascinated by it. I guess I'm not the only one since Ole Miss is packing the house both at home and on the road. As GO said earlier, why else would so many Auburn fans have been at that game??

So Ole Miss is 17-2, 6-0 in the SEC? Their two losses are to Middle Tennessee and Indiana State. My God the SEC is a joke this year (and WE"RE friggin 0-2 against that mess!).

I like guy who looks like the social worker from Big Daddy on press row. He loves it.
I also like the guy in the middle who not only flips him off with a lot of force, but uses the same amount of force to stop flipping him off.

I see the knobber made sure everyone knows he did not appreciate Marshall's antics.
I was at the GW when the Hammer his the game winning shot and then did the entire "slit your throat" gesture to the crowd. WHAT LACK OF CLASS!
It's a game of emotion people. The kid just won the game and got emotional. You can prevent these things by having your team win the game. Instead we get people like Seth Davis taking the time to highlight how much a better person he is then some college basketball player.

I don't recommend one of our players doing this, but it is funny as hell.
I like the emotion and think the sports world is working to do away with such raw displays of excitement.

We did this at Richmond back in the David West/ Thad Matta era. Legend has it that Sato popped someone in the face in the tunnel headed back to the locker room. Once we made it back, Matta jumped on a table and shouted "This is why we lift weights!"

Ole Miss hosts Kentucky on Tuesday. It's a shame that game isn't in Rupp Arena. Nevertheless, I'm still looking forward to it more than I've looked forward to an Ole Miss game in awhile.

Marshall Henderson doesn get emotional when he makes a key play to win a big game. He also gets emotional about ten minutes before the player introductions, and stays that way through the duration of the post game press conference.
There isn't a classic JIF, but the same thing happened at Vanderbilt a few weeks ago. As far as reading about him and not in a good way, apparently that's already happened. Didn't know he was a felon. He's Dennis Rodman, and it's not an act. It's genuine. He really is that off the handle.

I am going to watch that over and over again.. There's just so much good stuff going on in that 5 seconds. Watch the guy in the white hat come in from the left and challenge him to a fight. The pajama girl's face when she almost gets hit with a cardboard cut out...

Mere child's play compared to the elbow he threw at the Gardens a couple of weeks later. I miss the days when that was the most memorable fight in recent Xavier memory. Of course, Kevin Frey wasn't losing his head with the media back then.

No. That was at Auburn. The only time I went to Auburn for basketball was when we played there. I am not enough of a fan of the MS schools to take away trips. At least until the SEC gets a lot better.
I really don't like the way MH reacts to fans, but I am good with it because these fans brought it on themselves. They gave him unholy hell all day. Payback is a bitch.
That video clip is hilarious. I have watched it 100 times, and I will probably watch it 100 times more.

Marshall Henderson is that guy in your pickup game who shoots 5-18 (all threes) doesn't get any rebounds or assists, then talks up how he carried the team and how he "crushed it" with those 15 points.

Sounds like the same guy who also slaps your wrists when he's on defense but then calls fouls when you bump into him. I find it amazing that there's a guy like this in just about every pickup game I ever play in.

Lasalle has a better resume than Kentucky. If kentucky makes it and they don't we will all no why.
