I like that we've been targeting guys that are a little bigger than what we've traditonally looked at.

The new league should get Xavier in the discussion now with a lot more recruits we had no chance of getting in the past

Until we send a steady stream of point Guards to the NBA I can't see it.

Pretty good schools looking at him, I also like his size. Our backcourt is always pretty damn good.

Yes, he's 6'2" but Scout also lists him at just a buck thirty. He is a twig. Hopefully he can beef up a bit before the next level.

He definitely needs to add weight, but 130 seems nearly impossible. He has to weigh more than that. At 6'2", we'd like to have him at, what? 185-190?

Maybe he was only 5'3" two weeks ago and hit a growth spurt. Hasn't had time to add the bulk yet! Seems about as realistic as a 6'2" guy only weighing 130 lbs. I would have guessed his skin and bones alone would have been about a buck-ten.

I have no inside information or anything, but I think the fact that he pushed his decision up to today (a day after his visit to X) is good news.

Agreed. Also, I believe it was Travis Steele who tweeted something like "Another great day for X" yesterday. It was a very generic statement; hopefully it was referring getting his committment.

I noticed Shannon RTing an article about UMass and Xavier fans tweeting at Sumner trying to convince him to go to their school.
People should review the XU Compliance Department's guidelines: http://www.goxavier.com/compliance/xavi-compliance-boosters.html
It's well-intentioned and fans of every program do it but it's a really bad idea.

I'd wager someone close to him, possibly a family member, convinced him to wait on making a decision after he was initially ready to commit.

Nice to see Sumner got to go to the Nike Guard Skills Camp! Quite an honor but I think he needs to add some weight to that frame.

Hasn't really gained weight since his last check-in. Over the course of the winter, he had gained about 20 lbs to hit 150. Maybe spring AAU season made it hard to bulk up. It sounds like he is a legit 6'3" though, maybe 6'2.5", if he's approximately 6'4 with shoes on. Nice.

Semaj is here as well. They actually measure you here and I was told they do it without shoes. He is listed at 6'4.

Can dribble well with off hand...but no one seems to be able to do a lay up with off hand these days.

Hard for him to get minutes with Tyus Jones (and Blackmon) on that team.
Didn't see Okafor's name in the box score and he was supposedly on that squad.

Sumner finished 4th in Mr. Basketball voting. Deshaun Thrower, headed to Stony Brook, won. Wait, what?

Stony Brook is a sneaky good athletic program. They've won their conference the last two years (lost in the tournament finals both years), and their baseball team made it to Omaha two years ago.

That's all well and good, but he beat out some really good players and has no rating on Rivals and Scout.

But he probably put up some crazy high school stats. Mr. Basketball is for the best high school player, not the best college prospect. For example, Brad Redford.

Fair enough. I'm not sure that would happen in neighboring states Ohio or Indiana, though.

Yeah another 30 pounds wouldn't hurt but he's tall enough and skilled enough to where I think he'll be able to give a little bit of a spark off the bench next season every now and then. In a couple of years lookout. I think I saw that he's a grown a couple of inches over the past year too so he's probably still kind of working into his body a bit.

He's absolutely still working on his body but he has grown about 3-4 inches since he committed. He is a legit 6'5" now and it wouldn't surprise me if he possibly grew up to another inch by the time he puts a Xavier uniform on. I'm very excited to see him play.
