Great game. Best regular season game I've seen in years.

All it takes is a game against IU to turn me into a (temporary) Butler fan.

Apparently FT shooting (or, more to the point, the number of FT attempts) is what kept IU in this thing. BTW, how does Zeller go into OT with no fouls?!? Really? He's playing in the post and didn't pick up a single foul???

Now who was it in the other thread that said they wanted Duquesne instead of Butler in the new league?

Brad Stevens is one calm and collected coach. Nice win.

Someone did but I really don't feel like searching through 3 long threads to find it.
Nice win for Butler. Great game.

If I understand math (specifically the transitive property) correctly Xavier is the best team in the country, right?

I said duquesne and detroit if the new catholic league considers expanding all the way to 16. But in no case before butler.

XU handles Butler, Butler beats #1 IU, XU must be #1 by the numbers. :-)

didn't you say they had to prove themselves in the A10 though, before they should be considered? I really don't think the big east will wait for that showdown at Rhode Island before drawing a conclusion.

And that was without Philmore.
I still firmly believe in the DanaandVictory theory. When Jeff Robinson wants to play, he makes the team very very good. When he doesn't, they are pretty average

I think part of the Bulter win was Robinson's play. But I think another part was that Butler was not prepared for what kind of offense we were going to throw at them. They were used to the high screen from previous years and we ran none of that. We also had their offensive sets pretty well covered. I think Stevens got out-prepared by Mack.

No. I said if they want 16 teams, take the obvious 12 (XU, SLU, Butler, UD, Creighton) and add Davidson, Richmond, Duquesne and Detroit. All the schools pretty much meet the criteria. Locks down 4 more markets and really provides density throughout the midwest by using pittsburg to connect the east to the midwest, and uses Detroit to connect the norther teams a bit more. then Davidson and Richmond help create a little more presence in the BBall crazy mid-atlantic.
probably a long shot. But in the end each of the 16 teams would be looking at a long list of "pros" on why this could work / make sense...
duquense sucks, but someone has to finish last...

Dee shut down Clark and JMart shut down Jones. Oh, and Jeff Robinson actually showed up.
Brad Stevens is a freaking genius, though. Everyone was saying- Damn..why Barlow. Well, it's all about matchups and at that point, Barlow had the best one against the weakest IU defender. No way would anyone double on to Barlow, so spread the floor and let the kid, who obviously has been showing some real sh&$@% in practice, school his guy.
Just Genius.

I agree. Talking to someone at the season ticket holder open house who is close the program, he said that the team will win and lose, for the most part, on the back of Jeff Robinson. He said we are such a great team when Robinson shows up and plays at the level he can play. If he'd play at the top of his game each and every time, we be a better team. Effort is hard to coach, though. You can only bench players who don't want to give effort and hope that they get tired of watching the game go by.

That game was fantastic. I enjoy rooting for the Butler Bulldogs. They have a great thing going and it should be a rivalry for the ages in the years to come.

Well, it was their second game. My feeling was that they hadn't adjusted to playing without their point guard.
I suspect this will go down a lot like the Memphis win in the '09 season -- a nice win against a team that ended up playing a lot better later in the season, than they did against XU. But that's ok, because the W is all that matters.
I know they just beat the top ranked team, and are playing much, much better, but I am still not sold on Butler's "point guard" situation. Clarke is a very good scorer, but so many possessions he spends dribbling around for 25 seconds, he isn't great going left when someone's pressuring the ball, and he's really the only reasonable option they have at point. I think a team that can effectively put pressure on the ball will cause a lot of headaches for Butler. I really hope they keep winning OOC before it happens.

They don't have any good teams left in the non-conference. They have a trip to Vandy, but Vandy sucks. Didn't stop us from losing to them, but it doesn't change the fact that they suck.

Butler also plays #14 Gonzaga on 1/19.

Thanks. I stopped looking for non-conference games after they start playing conference games. Didn't realize they nestled another one in their later. That's a great matchup.
