Looks like Willie is in trouble the media for using Barack Hussein Obama's middle name.

I can't believe McCain apoligized for Willie's comments. Willie is an entertainer and Hussein is the guy's middle name. How is that derogatory? Seriously, lighten up Obama supporters.

Is Obama´s middle name really Husein? In the arab world its relatively common, but.........not good for politics. If it is his name, JM should not apologize. Obama´s Father should do that.

Whoever asked Willie to speak should be repudiated for this. Did anyone really think that Willie wouldn't make some kind of contoversial statement?

it wasn't a controversial statement. People MADE it a controversial statement. He made the point on his show he uses bill clintons, ronald reagans, both george bushs middle names all the time...and he does. What exactly is wrong with calling him by his name?
Barack Hussein Obama is a friggin sophist. He persuades people like crazy. And if one thing that people "thinks" is controversial is mentioned, the whole press and world go crazy. The press want obama to win it all soooo bad. Bravo to willie for not giving into the game.

I'm not sticking up for bill cunningham as a person (or as a whole)....rather, just sticking up for this "statement". Maybe we should stop using Barack's full name and totally exclude his middle name. And we can just use his intials... B.O. (wonder how the AP is going to respond)

To me, it's not so much that what he said was "controversial", as much as it's just really stupid, unoriginal, and pointless. How old is he...7? And there are people in Cincinnati (and elsewhere) who just continue to eat this shit up.
He was a smart guy 25 years ago. Somewhere inbetween, he went off the tracks.
And that hair is really something. What the f**k?

Cunningham's not stupid - he knew doing what he did would cause controversy. You can argue that ,yes, it's Obama's middle name, but doing what he did in the manner he did was certain to get a reaction. His point was not to show the over sensitivity of those who don't like Obama's middle name mentioned, but rather to poke a stick at them. The man is to constructive discourse what Michael Bolton is to music, and anyone who actually takes him seriously is naive and foolish.

Chico, it's no different than people who call Bush Dubya or Clinton (Bill) Bubba. We're all grown ups and we need to stop being offended by stupid things said by people who make a living based off ratings.

Willie is a great American...he's a talk show host, which means that he needs ratings. This helps (if he doesn't get fired).

It's not like he called him by his middle name ONLY. He stated his entire name. I see nothing wrong w/ that aspect of the statement.
Big deal if he called him a hack. It's what's he does. What did they expect him to do, praise Obama and Hillary?

Oh, I agree that people need to grow up and thicken their skin. However, we both know unfortunately that's just not going to happen, and people like Cunningham feast on that. He knew people would jump on his quote and would get his name in the paper, which is exactly why he said it.

On the one hand there is Rush Limbaugh: often funny, saterical, and inteligent. He's someone who even many liberals have a lot of respect towards (especially liberal media).
Then there's Bill Cunningham. An old bitter man. You look at him on tv and you feel bad for someone who is so out of touch and needy of attention. He's a sad old hack.

It also went a bit further than Obama's middle name..."Cunningham, a radio host at WLW-AM, had warmed up the crowd at Memorial Hall with comments about Obama and Hillary Clinton, likening Obama to a “hack, Chicago-style” politician and saying the Illinois senator would “saddle up next to Hezbollah,” Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and North Korean leader Kim Jong Il if elected president."

Cunningham is a complete tool. Did anyone see when they interviewed that idiot after the debate last night? The guy just drips sleaze. He even started attacking McCain because McCain didn't back him up.
Personally I think that he made the state of Ohio look like a bunch of ignorant racists. He knew exactly what he was doing. I have no problem with Barack's middle name. It is his middle name. I do have a problem with people using it to prey upon people's racism in an attempt to disparage a candidate.
In the end, the onus lies on the McCain camp to know who they have speaking for them. This is a major blunder. If they had known who this clown was, I can't imagine that they would have let him speak. Kudos to McCain for condemning it.

Again, not defending willie, but for the sake of argument...I haven't heard the whole speech willie gave yesterday. But from what you just said, because willie is of a different race and used Obama's middle name, he's a racist? But if it was a muslim republican that gave the exact same speech, would that be considered racism or would it have been blown way out of wack?
Cunningham is very tactical and knows how to get his name out there...just because he doesn't use a "preferred" strategy doesn't mean his is wrong. If he seriously offended barack, I'm sure we would know it by now. Barack, like all the republicans at the rally, probably just laughed at it and said "that's politics".
The defense of barack hussein obama that everyone is giving him is truly ridiculous. As willie said, "is he the new messiah"? The anti-christ maybe (oooh, did i go to far?)

I don't think that it has as much to do with what he said, as much as the perceived reasons for saying it. Cunningham will say that he didn't mean any disrespect by using his middle name, and there's really no way that we can prove otherwise. However, my belief is that Cunningham's use of Obama's middle name was designed to invoke an association with muslims/terrorists. He also said that Obama was going to cozy up to Hezbollah, North Korea, and Iran. The invocation of the middle name seeks to create a mental association between Obama and middle east terrorists.
*Disclaimer -- I am not that big of an Obama fan. I am largely undecided at this point. I like aspects of Obama, and I like aspects of McCain. So don't think that I am one of the people who thinks that Obama is perfect and can do no wrong, because that's not me.*

Willie has been using people's full names for as long as I can remember. The only reason I know Pete Rose's middle name is because of Willie. It would be weirder to me if he didn't use it. I think it's a speech rhythm thing for him that he thinks works.
All that aside, I'd be happier if the world had never met Willie Cunningham. I remember back when I could listen to talk radio, Willie loved to bring race into the issue when talking about UC basketball. He would get the UC fans all whipped up into a frenzy about how the Charlotte fans were hurling racial insults at the players. These allegations were 100% made up.

Hell yes. Willie knew what he was doing. A shock jock, that's all. He lives and breathes to be a controversial as possible, and now he has not only a local media circus going on, but a national one too. He lives for this stuff.
I don't blame Willie. He is what he is.
The guy I blame is the one who gave him the mic prior to McCain speaking. Don't these people know who they are giving the pulpit to? Holy Jeez.

Of course.
So what does this say about the Republican Club of Hamilton County who filled out the invite? McCain can act blindsided...and make a good case for that. But what about Portman and the others who invited him?? They sure can't plead ignorance.
Cunningham certainly has the right to be a retard...and the comments are far from being what I would decribe as "despicable or racist". It's just embarrassing for Cincinnati...and completely on par with the type of rhetoric that a guy like Jesse Jackson espouses on the other side.

Why kick Cunningham? Hillary is doing lots of dirty work, but is treated like a virgin. Cunningham simply said the truth, gets blasted, and True Colors......the dirtiest pol machine since the first Mayor Daily in Chicago, looks like Saint Rita. Mr McCain, is gonna get rolled over during the campaign if he wants to play the nice guy role. The New York Times has just given him a tiny tiny dose of whats gonna come and there will be no apologies.....now or never.

"Bill Cunningham, the Republican answer to Rev. Jackson"
I was almost thinking the exact same thing. Although, I can't stand anything Rev. Jackson says and I do like some comments Cunningham makes. Cunningham doesn't care if people hate him. Saying you hate him makes him happy. He loves attention...as do most people in his business. Willie was Willie yesterday, today, and will be tomorrow. There's no changing the way he views things just because you put him in a position that sheds more spotlight....heck, that brings Willie out even more.
