Wow. Even a crappy team is better than staying here. Yikes.

...or maybe not. What a joke this is.

Because this is dragging on for so long, I suspect he's staying at UC and is trying to negotiate a few things- like better facilities, more seats at Nippert, and probably more salary. Now if Wisconsin gives him a call............

Why would they want more seats at Nippert? They can't sell out now.

Every reporter and editor's nightmare. In my day, print one like that or lat it get on the wire edition and you'd be looking for work. Seriously

The Charlie Strong/Louisville/Tennessee thing was just as weird. And he's going to end up with a disgusting amount of money. I'm sure Jones would like to do the same.

Nor do they have the money to add those seats. It's like the Miami Marlins situation if they do this, hoping that if they build they will come. They won't.

What's the best answer? It's a rough choice for Jones. Stay at a university where you can potentially win 7 -10 games a year, but be irrelevant nationally the way things are realigning, or go to a Big 4 school that sucks and will have to rebuild and potentially never get there, but also have better facilities and more money? Sucks.

The positive at Colorado besides the green (not the money) is he should be able to improve on the 1 win this year. Add to the fact that he is more than doubling his salary, as well as the possible God-like status he could have if he rebuilds that program that hasn't been relevant since the early 90s.
The fan base will come out in Boulder if he wins unlike sUCks fanbase.....one of the worst fanbases in college sports.

I don't think Wisconsin would settle for Butch Jones. Right now, the only job Butch Jones would get is a low tier Big 5 conference job. He is now stuck because if his people did leak this to Woody Paige, he would have lied to his president. That might be the main reason he stays.

Plus, didn't I also hear that UC would match the colorado offer?

Deal w/ Butch Jones has fallen apart and will no longer happen. @Allbuffs @MileHighSports

This is absolutely comical, I'm fairly certain he has been stringing Colorado along to get what he wants out of UC.

They also had only 3 wins last year....that's 4 wins in 2 seasons. Butch could easily improve upon that record, be revered by the Colorado fan base, has the stability of the Pac 10, the potential to play in a BCS game, and much better facilities than he has at UC.

Colorado may not be the best fit for Butch Jones, but it is a better job than UC. He could stay on at UC for another year, and hold out for a better fit.

I would be shocked if Wisconsin has interest in Butch, that is a big jump in competition and comes with much more pressure than taking over a Colorado program that has only won 4 games in 2 years.

He's staying at UC..... for now.

A buddy tells me that he heard Jones was really pissed off about the press leak yesterday.

It seemed odd there were reports of Jones taking the Colorado job, yet, his wife had no idea what was going on. I am not surprised he is staying for now....other jobs with better fits will open up. If not this season, then next season for sure.

This whole thing reminds me of Sean Miller and some the stressful weeks we have had watching our coaches flirt with other schools.

That day/night after Sean flew to Tucson was the most stressful night of Xavier bball for me. Terrible memories.

Agree. Kelly got Notre Dame. Butch Davis can hang around for another year or 2 and wait for the right job.

Now if Tennessee or Wisconsin want him, I think he should reconsider (particularly Wisconsin).

I remember the Sean Miller weekend well.

I think it was the high water mark for site traffic here. We were learning about Flight Aware and trying to stalk Miller's plane. The vigil that night when Miller said he'd have to think about it. The relief when word came out shortly before lunch that he was staying. Then the heart sicking kick in the nuts when coming back from lunch the announcement he was leaving came out. Capped off by the "I'm going to where I can win a championship" press conference in our own media room.

While the Colorado and Purdue jobs are apparently now off the table, nobody has said he has signed any sort of renegotiated contract extension. So it remains status quo.

Good catch Coaster....Jones is now a Volunteer. Certainly explains why he didn't sign an extension of any kind.
