Crosstown shootout time, time for the Waugh era to begin in earnest and these young ladies establish themselves as the women's college basketball program in the tri state!

one thing UC will get in this, is the advantage of some ticket sales, they are averaging a paltry 500+ per home game, even though they had NKU and Ohio State as attractions,,,
Don't get me wrong, XU at 1000+ is nothing to brag about, but bearcat turnout is beyond sad.,

4 minutes to go in the half, XU has 10 fouls to UC's 3, and we trail by 8. terrible shooting by both teams

We look awful. No shooting, no rebounding, too much fouling, doing nothing but launching 3's that we're not making..

not so awful now, wanninger found her range, 3 3 pointers, cut the lead to 2,,, 36=34 under 10 to go

There is no lack of fight in this group,,,, XU has battled back from 8 down, to a 1 point game in the final minutes.... setting up for a last second shot

Good job by the team today... despite looking awful in the beginning, we still continued to fight. Then some shots started to fall... I realize that UC is not Duke, but this was a really good, hard faught win in my eyes. Congrats to Amy and the team.

Coach Waugh has really instilled a chunk of herself in this team. This is a group that will not give up, keeps fighting right to the finish, and a different player comes up big in every game.
Love to watch this team play, I'm certain they gained some fans this afternoon!

I agree with XU-PA Amy's passion for the game has definitely grown into these kids hearts as well. They played with such intensity and just never quit. It was a GREAT game and was fun to watch. I think we will see many more wins for this TEAM. They play so unselfishly and is everything we want in a Xavier team. Anyone who watched the game could never deny that these kids are now playing with the same intensity that Amy played with a few years ago. It is wonderful to see. keep it up and Go X!

Anytime Xavier beats any Borecat team, it is special.

I sent a congratulatory tweet to Coach Waugh. She will get this program back to success. I believe it.

Superb job by the ladies!

Hope you can convince some of the die hard fans to come out and support the ladies. one of my high school classmates, hell of a ball player in his day, has just started taking his daughter to XU games, has become a fan himself, much like I did back in the Balcomb days.

Really? I thought you might have gone as far back as Ehlen and the MCC.

Glad to see X beat UC. On a side note, my wife's (who played at X under Ehlen) cousin just played X on Friday night and I had to root against XU. She is from Cincinnati (played at Ursula) and has been a 3 year starter for Appalachian State. I found it strange rooting for her and sitting w/ the A state crowd. She probably had 60-70 people there cheering for her. It was a good game and now I can go back to rooting for X.

I don't know if it is by design, but there seem to be quite a few local girls on the teams they in the non-conference:

BUCKNELL: Alyssa Dunn (Seven Hills), Sheaira Jones (Colerain), Rachel Voss (Loveland)

MOREHEAD STATE: Almesha Jones (Hughes)

APPALACHIAN STATE: Kelsey Sharkey (St. Ursula)

WRIGHT STATE: Taylor Stanton (Walnut Hills), Kayla Lamotte (Mason), Abby Jump (Ryle)

OHIO U: Ashley Fowler (Mt. Notre Dame)

Wright State should be interesting - I know Crittenden and Abby Jump played together at Ryle and I'd assume Glover and Kayla Lamotte did some at Mason as well.

Nope, not that I'm not old enough to have followed then. I must admit I was a XU men's hoop fan forever, it took a 9 year old girl to wipe away my ignorance and introduce me to women's basketball. Thank goodness for that!

They must work to schedule some of these teams, in the hope that it brings more attendance numbers. But the other reason I suspect is that there really are an awful lot of tri state area kids playing D-1 hoops. Between very solid high school programs, and some very aggressive AAU, the area is one of the best areas in the country for girls sports. Being out of the area, and still being involved a little, I see kids from the area in my travels all the time. Interesting to read an article the other day, a Mason kid has committed to the school (D-2 Eckerd College) I announce for now down here in FLA!
