62-61 FINAL. Weber State over The Dump.
Big time program they've got up there.

Weber State is big time - at least they were when Harold Arcenaux played there many moons ago.

Excuse me...it was Harold "The Show" Arceneaux. (not commenting on spelling....just the obvious lack of respect for leaving out "The Show")

Dayton is Dayton.
Noticed though that Dickinson has some how won 3 straight. Also Jay Canty went for 15 points and 10 assists against the Dukes,

A UD fan on the A10 board was trying to explain how much pressure there is on Dayton players playing in the "cathedral" of college basketball that is UD Arena. I believe his term to describe it was palpable. When things aren't going well against a foe that they should beat, you can feel the tension from the fans and the tension seeping into the players as it just is about UD never losing in Dayton.
What a waist of time, typing this crap.
What a douchebag program.

As much as some of you hate Dayton, I don't know why this makes you happy. I prefer Dayton, and all A10 teams, to go undefeated in the OOC. Besides Butler, this year, of course.

I agree with you about the OOC, and on that basis I wish they would hold up their end of the bargain. However, honestly, when stuff like this happens, I immediately think of some of their loser fans, and how infuriating an experience like tonight must be for them.
They deserve every bit of what they get out of a loss like this.
So now they can get back to winning in the OOC. Then they can show up in Cincinnati and play exactly the same way they apparently played tonight when that game comes around.

I agree with this. I didn't used to hate Dayton as much until I started reading the A-10 message boards. Some of their fans are fine (Adamtheflyer and a couple others) but some are so annoying that it makes Dayton so easy to hate. I definitely would prefer them to win all their OOC games but I don't mind when they lose either.

Looks like that hire of The Desert Raccoon's dwarf brother is working out to all expectations.
Maybe it wasn't Midget Gregory's fault. It must be that the stank from the udump arena permeates and infects all with moldy decay. Thank Gawd Xavier only has to spend two hours a year in that cesspool.

I was at the game. My wife's grandparents have season tickets (sounds about right for that place). Whenever they don't go, we get the tickets. Archie called a timeout with 30 seconds to go with Dayton down 1. They ran a pick and roll with Dillard at the top at about :17. He drove and found Benson. Benson caught the ball and didn't move. He literally stood with the ball and was whistled for 3 seconds with :10 to go. I've never seen anything like it.
My wife is a UD fan but knows basketball and is a realist. The best thing she's ever said was last year during A-10 tournament. With 2:00 to go, she said, "This is when Xavier is Xavier and Dayton is Dayton."

I really thought Archie would come in and do wonders with that program. Granted, he's just in the beginning of his second year there, but losses like this are what makes Dayton the joke to us that they are.
Of course, they usually dominate their sad-sack non-conference schedule and then just blow when they get to the A-10, so who knows what is going to happen here.

I think there's a difference between wishing them to lose and reveling in the loss. I wish for all A-10 teams to win, but when the blowhards suck, I do get some joy in the sound of gnashing teeth and empty excuses that come soaring down 75. Call it the consolation prize.

Didn't watch the game, and probably won't end up watching it. When it comes to OOC buy games, or guarantee games, or whatever you want to call them, Weber State is way better than your typical buy game opponent. Granted, UD still should have won, but Weber is most likely a top 100 team. They're better than the dregs of the A10, so it isn't as bad as their loss to Rhode Island a year ago. Not even close. They may not have the brand name that Auburn and Boston College have, but I think Weber is certainly a much better team than BC and Auburn, which are two of the games that Dayton won.
It's not good to lose to Weber. It's just not quite as disastrous as some seem to think it is.

I am not one of the Dayton haters who bashes them constantly and looks for every reason to bring them up and put them down. However, if I am not mistaken Weber State had 0 DI wins prior to the game against Dayton. While it is WAYYYY too early for RPI to mean anything, they were #347 out of 347 prior to that win. Their two losses were to teams ranked 119 and 259 by KenPom. They were ranked 198 by KenPom when they played Dayton and that win has vaulted them up to 175.
Weber State is not a very good team and I am willing to say they will not end up top 100 in KenPom or the RPI.

You're right. It's wayy too early to look at those types of ratings and statistics. Yesterday their RPI was 347th. Today, it's 149. They've lost two games, one of which was at Utah State in the opener, who is very tough to beat at home, so you can't hold that against them.
They won 25 games a year ago, they routinely win 20+ games, and they have a very good juco transfer in Davion Berry.
Weber State is a half way decent team. I'll be surprised if they don't win 20+ games again, finish either first or second in the Big Sky, and finish inside the RPI top 100.
I'm not saying Dayton shouldn't have won the game. They should be expected to beat Weber State. I'm just saying that to imply that Weber is one of the worst teams in div1 is pretty far off the mark. They have BYU at home, and I wouldn't be surprised if they won that game.

Obviously neither of us know what is going to happen, but this is a fun conversation so I am going to keep it going. Yes, Weber State won 25 games last year. Unfortunately, most of that team was drafted #6 overall by the Portland Trail Blazers!
In all seriousness, it will be interesting but I so not expect them to be in the top 100 RPI, but more so a 135-175 type team. Will be interesting to see where they end up, we may have to try to remember to dig this back up at the end of the year.

Pomeroy has Dayton at #96 and Weber State at #174.
That said Pacific is #153. Ours was on a semi-neutral court (how far is Pacific really from Anaheim) and theirs was at home but the quality of opponent was largely the same.

Weber's kind of in a unique, and not entirely beneficial spot. The Big Sky has gone out to 11 teams and is playing all home and homes. So, that gives them 20 conference games, and only nine OOC games. They're locked in to playing Utah State, Utah Valley and BYU as fixture games.
The bottom of the Big Sky is set-your-head-on-fire bad. Montana is a good team, but there is a pretty big drop off after that. If they don't go at least 17-3 in league play, it will be a dissapointment. So, an inflated record will inflate their RPI. Utah State will likely win 20+ games (albiet against weak teams), but that will also inflate the RPI. BYU isn't bad. Utah Valley is bad, but the rest of the teams in the Great West are even worse. Numbers-wise, I think they'll do alright. They actually finished ahead of Dayton in the RPI last year.
On top of all that, I'm not saynig Dayton shouldn't have won the game, or that Weber is some sort of dark horse that is going to take the nation by storm. They're a half way decent team, though. If you pull up any "major' team's schedule and look at who they're playing in their buy games, you're not going to find too many teams that are better than Weber. They're better than some of the garbage at the bottom of the Atlantic Ten. Last year's Rhode Island team was probably infinitely worse than this year's Weber team, yet no one was this up in arms when they lost to them last year. It's not good that they lost, but there are worst teams to lose to.

Ken Pomroy would be the first person to tell you that it's too early to rely on the rankings.
Here is my deal....it's not that I don't see the fun in beating up on Dayton. It's just that I think Weber deserves a little credit. They're not a top program, but they're not dogshit either. One of their losses is at Utah State. I know Utah State does not play in a top level conference, but they do have one of the best home records in the nation. They're oftentimes one of those teams that appears in articles about how they can't get big teams to play them at home. You don't just go into Wild Bill's house and come out with a win....
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ARpzavb7PQk
Weber did lose, but they played them pretty tough there. Dayton isn't an elite program, but that's not the easiest place for road teams either. They traveled across the country, went in there, and won. I know people want to bash Dayton, but I just think Weber deserves some credit.

Don't all of the Utah state schools do a round-robin series with each other, or has that been modified now?

All but Utah. They play some of them, but not all of them. Also, with Southern Utah now being in the same conference as Weber, I guess that alters things somewhat.
Iowa opted to put a stop to the four div1 Iowa teams having the round robin tournament. They're still playing Iowa State and UNI, but not Drake.
I think the Big Five and the Front Range are the only two mythical conferences that are still going strong.
